Thank you Yodrak, you are always very helpful to everyone here
I think I'll tell him to go ahead and use English if he wants but if he doesn't clearly understand something to ask for the translation immediately. He's pretty fluent in English (I never have a problem understanding anything from him) so I think he'll be fine but I'll remind him to check his pride at the door when he goes there.
Patient,Inability of a visa applicant and their petitioner to communicate can be a 'red flag', as you put it.
Inability of a visa applicant and a consular officer to communicate is a different issue. And trying to 'look better' can be a costly mistake. Best to look like yourself, as you are.
Yodrak
So it doesn't look better to the officer if he's able to interview in English?I thought the language barrier between the USC and the foreign fiance/spouse was a red flag....

Also use the "other names used" section to put it exactly like it is on any other documents like his passport.

change of address form
above is a link to the form to change your address with USCIS
Is there any need to use this form if the fiance is not in the country yet? Do you know if there is a different form for the petitioner to change their address with USCIS before the fiance has their interview?
-
Isn't it easier waiting for the name checks when your SO is in the country with you? I don't think I'll mind all the waiting once he's actually here with me. At least we'll be waiting together, in the same place.

Congratulations!!!

K1 does not need EAD, we just did this yesterday. I do not know about K3. My step son is a K2 and he must get an EAD before they will give him a SSN.
Did your fiance get temporary work auth at the POE?

I am marrying a foreign man because I love him and he's the only one for me.

Thanks for your help everyone!

The previous poster is correct, you're going to have to sponsor them at some point anyway. I do see advantages to this though. 1) you're not responsible for them if they come over here and skip town as soon as the plane lands (not that any of our fiances would do that
) 2) in the event that the USC needs help from their family and the family member denies that help (co-cponsoring) because they don't know the fiance, this gives them 90 days to come over and meet the family and hopefully earn their trust enough to co-sponsor. 3) not as much to collect for the initial interview
I've read a post from another member on here that the embassy in Tunis does not require this form for K-1 either and I've called and confirmed this myself. I'm sure other embassies must have this same policy because I've also seen many posts saying they had it for the interview but weren't asked for it.
This topic got moved while I was replying
I think it could have stayed in K-1 since it doesn't really affect anyone who's getting any other type of visa.

When my fiance goes for his interview, is it more impressive to the consular officer if he uses English the entire time or do they normally conduct the interview in the native language?
I was thinking the language barrier would be a red flag to overcome and so it would be better if he restricted himself to solely English, kind of like proving to them that he will be able to function properly once he's here because he has a clear grasp of the language. Does that make sense?
Please post your experiences here. Thanks!

You're Taiwan!
Despite enormous setbacks, including the fact that most people refuse to recognize who you are or even that you exist at all, you've built yourself into quite a productive person. You've got a little trouble maintaining a sense of personal order, but through the mess, you're still very industrious and have a small but pivotal impact on almost everyone you know, and even people you don't. You make a whole lot of stuff.

This is personal opinion, but I am a BIG fan of DCF. Not all embassies offer it though. And if they do they might not offer it for all of the visas. The down side it the money involved in flying to and fro. The up side is that you get to see your sweetie a bit more then waiting Stateside.
Joel
Agreed. If you can do DCF while you're still in his country I believe it could be a lot faster for you.

This is awful and I'm sorry to hear it. Have you talked to an immigration attorney? It's probably a good idea. I hope everthing works out for you.

Has anyone actually gotten a job using this I-94? Is anyone really willing to hire someone who's going to have to quit in less than three months?
What is the work authorization that you can apply for while waiting on the GC?
-
No, we've just been doing it ourselves and with the help of this site.
-
Congratulations! That's terrific news.
-
When you get it from the county clerk's office it will have an offical seal.
-
When I see those negative ads it makes me want to vote against the one running it.
The other morning I was watching the news and at least 20 ads came on, only one was not a negative ad. It's really very sad.
Why does no one care about the real issues? Is it really just about who's the lesser of the two evils?
-
Ok thanks for the replies! I think I'll go ahead and change it if I move.
-
I am the USC and my petition has been approved and forwarded to the embassy. My fiance has received the first packet and returned and is just waiting on the interview date now.
If I need to move before this, is it allowed? I can forward my mail but I think some things won't get forwarded. Do I need to change my address with USCIS even though our petition is not there anymore? Is there anything else that I should be expecting in the mail at this point or is it pretty much just on him from here on out?

Oh ok. Thanks!

How long does it normally take to get an interview date after the embassy gets the package back from the non-USC?
