Jan_F got a reaction from Uzii in New Islamabad AP-Tracker, Part III (merged thread)
I have applied for a B1 B2 visa and have been cursed with "administrative processing" .
    Interview date 16 June 2016.
Last check status 02 October 2016.Status: Administrative processing.
I previously had a visa and went to the US in 2006 and then in 2009.
In 2006 when I was issued a US visa I was put in Administrative processing then also and had to wait 8 months.
what do you all think How long will I have to wait now?, will it be issued or revoked?

My fiance was put in AP and it will be 5 weeks as of tomorrow. He has a mechanical engineering degree and has worked as both a mechanical engineer and process engineer. No matter that he's switching careers and wants to be an interpreter - the fact that he's a Russian scientist routes him through several background checks. The fact that you're from Pakistan and you have a background in science puts you down that same path, and what's more, you are working for the department of defense. You are going to be screened very, very carefully, and it's going to take a long time. Sorry. :-/

Yes, just as we're not entitled to get visas, we also aren't entitled to know the exact reasons for the rejection. It seems with immigrant visas they can offer more insight/reasons for why they reject people, but for non-immigrant visas it's just not worth their time to inform people other than with a very general statement. The B-1/B-2 is the bottom of the food chain, visa-wise.

being stuck in administrative processing is like delivering a baby , that gets stuck, it is painful and at the same time you do not know the outcome.

It could be another 8 months (hopefully it won't be), or it could be longer. There are no set timelines for AP, they can take as long as they want. I've seen posts from some members here that were in AP for over a year.

I don't know if they do AP each time with each new application but, If you work in a specialized field with certain skills in technology or connections to governments, it seems like it'll take longer because it's just one added thing they have to go over.
It's not about if you're a thief or not, they assume that everyone is suspicious/untrustworthy, moreso if you are working for government departments in a foreign country. It's not about being a thief, they just check for security reasons, it's pretty typical, don't take it personally. Just wait and see what happens.
Sorry you missed your vacation. A lot of people don't even get tourists visas, they are just rejected flat out. Be glad you've been lucky in the past! Maybe it'll work out this time too.
I'd advise not to book or plan any vacations in the future unless you have the visa first.
