I saw it, did not understand the reference and moved on.

    Story seemed more interesting.

    Wink and nod.

There was nothing to understand about the reference. That was the point. It was only there to entice people to complain or argue about it, which would then be followed by childish insults like "TDS" or whatever the insult of the week or month is.

And as I said, for some reason it all just slips by because people are openly complicit in it.

If you were really Dr. House you would come up with Munchhausen Proxy , Colchicine poisoning or something cool like that. I am moderately underwhelmed.

I'm usually not that kind of doctor, I find it wasteful.

People love to come up with a long differential and in medical school and residency you are rewarded/encouraged for thinking of the most obscure diagnosis. It tends to lead to "over testing" and "over diagnosis", which is a large contributor to waste in the healthcare system.

You need to have respect and admiration for zebras, but also remember that in the US you are far far far more likely to encounter a horse in the wild.

The MDL does not like to talk about HRC, because its sets off their TDS.

This thread was a thinly-veiled attempt to bait people into complaining or arguing. The article has nothing to do with collusion. You are well aware of that, and are intentionally trying to draw out discontent.

As I said before. Large part of the problem here.

Sorry to hear she is unhappy here.  Hopefully, you will be happier there, and life will be better for your family.

I'm probably being overly negative. Our first kid is arriving in the next couple weeks, she has a job that pays well and requires far less effort and stress than her old job, we have a nice house.

We're happy for now. But long term she has said multiple times she doesn't want her children in US public schools. So we either pay for private or we go elsewhere.

I heard online that the government is running a special in January.  If she were to buy three boxes of tea bags and dump them down the toilet, she gets an expedited USC, for free!!

Wherever you can live that you are all happy, and your money goes farther, that is where I recommend going.  I hope to be looking for that place in a major way in less than 10 years.  Doing it slowly now. (Belize, Costa Rica, PI, Thailand, etc.)

We would gladly move to Thailand in the future. It's where we met and we love it. That would be hard with family though.

Our money definitely wouldn't go further in the UK. That is more about what we are willing to give up for other things. I'll take a salary cut, but we still want to do it. She's not really happy here.

I read an article that it was a very amateur spray tan by a spray tan expert. I don't know much about it but you can clearly see the eye sockets are white, you are not born that color.  It seems odd because I have been on TV and they spend a lot of time with makeup, why would a pro do that ?

If he is covering up a skin disorder, you would be right.  Attacking someone for something they cannot control is not fair game.
Another wild theory I  read was that he had hereditary or fast food induced hemochromatosis...so what is it Dr. House?

    image.jpeg.4e5a08691f2710a88a376d30a23ca3ea.jpeg

I've only cared for infants with hemochromatosis so I can't really say about that.

It looks like makeup, which is why I do wonder if it's covering up something. As you said, I can't imagine any professional makeup artist being happy with their job. It's also quite consistently bad which also makes me wonder if it's the best they can do because of whatever it's covering.

Personally, I commute from a northern suburb every day (well almost, some days I telecommute).  It is actually a nice little village with some really nice activities. Neither me, nor my wife have any desire to live in a "city".  As the other poster said though, people of this generation tend to be migrating toward the cities for whatever reason, but as another poster mentioned that, like most things, are cyclical.  I do wonder, if everyone is moving to the cities, who is going to grow all the food?

We are just a little stuck in the US because of the location of oil and gas. If she wants to continue working with kids (which she does) we are stuck around Houston. We can't live in a nice village community and commute into Houston.

On the other hand you can commute into London from some very nice village type places.

I always do my best to give people the respect they deserve even when responding to a post that could be construed as childish such as always referring to the current or former presidents professionally.  It doesn't seem to make any difference.

Even if it doesn't make a difference, it is still what we should aspire to do.

I think I also said earlier I draw a distinction between insulting the President (or former President) and insulting a group of people that may be partially represented here.

Also certainly insulting a person here directly (or indirectly) is a step above, which is why I used the "TDS" acronym as the perfect. That is used to directly reference people here, and it is intended to be an insult. I've seen it very frequently since I came back and it's not cool in my opinion.

We can insult public figured all we want. We cross a line when we start calling each other names, or baiting each etc...it's a frequent problem in this forum.

TDs really bothers you doesn't.  I am sorry for living in your head rent free. You devote way too much thought to the class clown.

It doesn't apply to me so I take no personal offense

That doesn't mean it isn't childish and insulting to a demographic and should be reported if directed at individual posters.

While we are on this topic, and for full disclosure, you are one of the biggest problems on this forum. Did you miss our whole "pump and dump" discussion? That most certainly applies to you. I'll just leave it at that.

Don't worry, the tide will turn again as people who think city dwelling today realize the error of their ways, then their kids will move to more rural locations.  Cyclical.

I wish it was more practical to have the best of both worlds. Live in a village, commute to a city. That's just rare in the USA these days. I think better public transportation would certainly help.

It's one of the primary reasons my wife and I see moving to the UK as an improvement in "Quality of life". We could realistically live in a smaller community, but I could still work at a large academic hospital and she could work at a Supermajor (or similar company). 45 minute commute (mostly by train) can get you into a village. 45 minute commute (in heavy traffic) here in Houston gets you to a plastic fake suburb with strip malls.

  11. I think the standard for posting a thread about an article here should be :

    1. Provide the article, and summarize it if you wish

    2. Provide your opinion, possibly with a question (at the very least a "What do you think?" type question)

Just linking an article with no opinion or topic for discussion tends to point an attempt to stir discord without a substantial discussion.

I am directing this at no one in particular. Just an observation. Also obviously a thread started with just a meme involving some sort of insult/dig at a person or group of people (so pretty much all memes posted here?) should be locked immediately (and honestly should be followed by a warning and/or punishment depending on repeat offense).

Yes, sir..... That is why I am looking what actually happens with the NC Congressional Districts on wither on not they have to be redrawn, if so when, and will there be new elections afterward.

You may have missed it on the prior page so honest question -

Do you not agree that terms like "TDS" are no better than whatever they are in response to? That the solution to someone using childish insulting nicknames isn't to use childish insulting nicknames back?

I sincerely hope if you intend to run for office you do so in a way that is professional and respectful of everyone's opinion. If people don't want to be respectful to you the best response is no response, or just highlight their disrespect. Don't condone it by throwing an insult back at them.

I personally think the best president since Reagan was very recently buried.

To most people I know, Trump is a joke.

Drain the swamp? Washington looks like more of a swamp now than it has since the Triassic period.

I'm no Clinton fan either, most of the world struggles to understand how you can have a nation with a population over 300,000,000 and those were the best two candidates. They should have just put Dumb and Dumber on the ballot sheets.

Every time I turn on the news and hear the words President Trump my first thought is "What's he done this time?" !

The "Drain the swamp" slogan was never intended to be an actual campaign promise. He famously described how he started using it to a crowd of supporters. He didn't like it, thought it was pointless, but people cheered and loved it so he figured "why not" and started using it. He basically admitted to a crowd that he had no interest in keeping the promise, and their response was to just cheer some more.

I think Australia does something similar.

The Danish government has come up with a plan to send dozens of rejected migrants to a remote island that currently houses a research center conducting tests on diseased animals.

Denmark's center-right government and right-wing Danish People's Party reached an agreement under its new finance bill for 2019  to decontaminate Lindholm Island – located around two miles from the nearest shore — and then use it hold as many as 100 people by 2021, according to a government website. Among the migrants who could be sent to the island are criminals, rejected asylum seekers and others who can't return to their home country "due to the risk of ill-treatment."

    https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/denmark-migrants-lindholm-island-danish-peoples-party-inger-stjberg/

I was going to say "I thought this was what Australia was". It was with criminals though. Or is that just an urban myth? I've never actually bothered to learn the history of Australia. I believe there is some truth in it.

Wouldn't those in bold be asylum seekers? If there is a risk of "ill-treatment" in their home country, wouldn't that qualify for asylum? I guess it depends on how you define "ill-treatment". Seems a little crazy to say "Well you aren't an asylum seeker, but we agree it probably isn't safe for you to return home".

Problem with the Senate though you're going to have a body of government that'll become increasingly isolated from the rest of the country. We know the population of the big cities/suburbs are increasing every day while the rural areas are going down. You could feasibly have 1/3rd of the country dictating what the other 2/3rds does. The bottom 25 states by population (50 senators) is equivalent to New York and California (4 senators).

New York and California have a lot more representatives in the House, so they have "proportionately" more say there.

I have a bigger issue with whether the representatives in the House truly represent a fair breakdown of people in their states (Gerrymandering).

    Exactly, exclude Racists from voting.

Question 1: "Are you a racist?"

Question 2: "Are you a terrorist?"

    14 minutes ago, JimandChristy said:

No keep the Senate of course, just make it represent the country/people as a whole. Increase the number of senators for California and Texas etc.

You are describing what the House is intended to be. There is a reason we have both. I think a lot could be done so that the House actually represents "the people", but I don't think we need to turn the Senate into basically a second House.

6 minutes ago, Bill & Katya said:

Sort of off topic, but I guess Representative Ocasio-Cortez does think the Senate is one of the three branches of government.  The Senators are meant to represent the States, and are not supposed to be population based.  If you want to change the House (required to represent the people) and increase their numbers so it is not one Representative for approximately every 700k people then fine, that is something I believe can be done without a Constitutional Convention.

I can't read those two words without it sounding like that one song in Hamilton. They just roll off the tongue so well. It's great alliteration.
