  1. You don't have to answer this of course but is there anything unusual about your case which would prompt such a visit like an age gap or something? I'm just trying to figure out if this is their new style now since cairobound's husband just had a visit too.

Gawd that would royally suck for us since although he still has his old flat which is the address listed on the application, his sisters now live in the new flat so the only people at the old flat are the neighbors, one of which was the old woman with the big thick black khol under here eyes that yelled at us for 30 minutes accusing us of fornicating in the flat without being married. I guess the good thing is that the ENTIRE NEIGHBORHOOD knows we're married since she yelled so loud you could hear her a block away!

We do have an age difference, but not a huge one and what strikes me as strange is they did not identify themselves at all as being affiliated with the consulate. I don't know if they pick cases randomly or becuase there is an age gap or what. Could be different combinations of things. We had a lot of proof that we had sent in along with my three trips over the past year and many pictures of us together with his family. Who knows how they are deciding these things. Could you give them the current address right now or would that make things too difficult?

I honestly don't know but I think it would make it difficult. I'd at least like to wait until he's had his interview so that they don't send the pkt 4 to the wrong address. They're so messed up over there I'm afraid to rock the boat since so far he's gotten everything he's needed to get and the postman now knows his phone number and the people there know to look out for his mail. It's not like the US Postal system...it's so freakin' frustrating the postman goes there and then has to ask around for him, etc. bleh. We have an age difference too but it's only 7 years so I wasn't thinking it was a big deal but now I gotta wonder. Oh well it's out of our hands and whatever will be will be. I have to learn to give this stuff up to God to handle since I can't control every little thing. Never used to be such a control freak until we started this process!!!

I am the same way pushing wanting to make things move. My husband tells me we do all we can they ask and maybe a little extra and the rest is in God's hands. He has a much better outlook on all of this than I do I think, though he is just as frustrated as me with all the waiting and not knowing!! You wait until after your interview and see how things go. Maybe you won't need to think about address changes cause you get that visa so quickly!!!!

Wow, they do home visits in Egypt? My husband never had that in Jordan. Is this something new? Or is it just for Egypt?

Quite honestly these past two times are the first I've heard of it since I joined back in August, though maybe people had them and just didn't report them before. The US/Egyptian relations aren't doing so well so who knows if that has anything to do with it.

I think that the info I got from a lady that was helping me at DOS could answer some of the changes we are seeing. She told me there is a new director of the visa issuance dept and there are many personnel changes and probably procedure changes too. That would be my two cents on what is happening. ( like any of us really knows!! ha!)

  3. I just talked to Sam earlier this afternoon and today two men visited his family's building and talked to his grandfather. There was no one else in any of the other flats in his family's building as all were at work. The men asked his grandfather if Sam lived there and he said yes. They asked if he was married and to who. He told them he was married and to an American woman named Becky. He said this is a picture of my grandson and his wife here up on our wall. (so happy they have our picture up in their living room!!) They asked if he had met me and if I had been there to visit them. Then.......these two men went to a shop down the street and showed the girl working there a picture of Sam and asked if she knew him. She said no. They asked her if she ever saw a foreigner or American woman at the store with Sam and she said no I don't know him. They asked her if she had seen any wedding celebration or party at Sam's family address on the street and she told them no (like our marriage was over a year ago) and she would know that!! Anyway these two men did not identify themselves as being from the consulate. They told Sam's grandfather that they had a paper to deliver to Sam. His grandfather said he would be happy to deliver to Sam when he saw him and they told him no, that the papers had to be delivered by them in person, but his grandfather said he never saw them with any papers in their hands. He tried to give them Sam's number to contact him and they didn't want the number, but his grandfather insisted. Unfortunately since he was the only one there he looked up the wrong number and gave them an incorrect number, but we know they have Sam's number cause they have called him on it before. Anyway very strange and actually kind of scary that they didn't even identify themselves as being from consulate. Sam's grandfather was asking him who were these men and we have figured they have to be from the consulate. No one else there knows about me or where I am from except for his family.:blink:

Hopefully this means they are moving on our case, but we don't know what the next step will be. I think Sam will be calling Embassy tomorrow to see if they will tell him if these men were from the consulate that visited with his grandfather.

  4. I would move if that is what it takes for us to be together and the visa is not issued for some reason. I have two children, but they have not seen or spoken to their father in almost three years and he is always in trouble with the state for evading child support so don't think he will ever show up or be there for them any time soon. So taking them from US they would not be losing their relationship with their father. He has already ruined that himself (very sad for my children). THey would move with us to be a family together. I think that we would not stay there permanently and eventually come here to US to live, especially as my children have sort of agreed they would go IF they knew we were going to move back to US in not too long. THey are old enough that we could put them in an international school and I think that they would be okay with that for a time.

Sam has had several job offers in the past couple of months to work in Dubai for very very good salary and paying in US dollars so imagine what that would be in LE. It has been very hard for him to turn those jobs down when we don't know the time frame for his visa issuance.

I think that we could live very comfortably wherever we are together and yes there would some luxuries that we have here that would have to be given up, but in reality there are a lot of things we have that once they are gone you realize maybe you didn't need that so much after all and life is simpler without it.

We are hoping for the visa for Sam to come here and us to live here, especially for the kids, but I would not hesitate to move wherever Sam has gotten a good job (probably not Cairo as the pay sucks there), but Dubai or some other area in Europe. Not in our plans, but is definitely doable for us.

  5. Well that is good news with some bad news which seems to be the case with Cairo these days!!! So happy for you both that you are almost there and hope they get that visa in there and back ASAP!!!!!

Thanks for the wishes for us!!! I hope everyone that is hanging and waiting for AP gets their visas quick!!!!

  6. Any updates on our ladies going through Cairo this week? I know last week there were a lot of good emails that came through but just following up to see if anything happened with them?

No news yet, but we at least have some hope now for an end to this waiting...................................

what hope?? the email? I'll have to find that thread again

This is the email we got last week

The case is currently pending the officers final review. Once the process is completed, we will issue and forward the visa via DHL. The process usually takes around two weeks.

  8. I really hope this is good news for Becky as she was so helpful to me after our interview. Tam, Joulie and a few others of you who know me,but know that I am a private person are aware that my fiancé was called by the embassy yesterday to send his passport for the visa. I am so happy now and I wish the same happiness to those who have been waiting in AP like we were. I really hope Cairo starts cranking out visas in 5 weeks or less of AP as with our case. Becky we were told we would have it back in ten days, which I took to mean two weeks so the times are similar. I don't want to give false hope, but to me it looks good for you!:thumbs:

    Good Luck

    Thanks jodo :)

  9. They kept his passport.

Also, I have been calling DOS and talking to the same lady for the past four weeks. SHe and her supervisor have been emailing Cairo about our case and what is happening if they have not done DOS checks. I just talked to her again yesterday and she told me same situation. But, she also told me that they have a new director of the visa processing dept and they are undergoing big personnel changes. Soooo, maybe this means that things will finally get a move on and all of us that are waiting since interviews at the beginning of the year will begin to get visas.

Becky what number do you call to talk to some one at the DOS? May you pass that number to me please?

    thanks Cheryl

the number I call is 202-663-1225

  11. Finally received a different response on our case than pending administrative processing!!

    Dear Madam,

Thank you for your email message.

The case is currently pending the officer’s final review. Once the process is completed, we will issue and forward the visa via DHL. The process usually takes around two weeks.

    Regards,

    Consular Staff

    NM

I wonder if anyone else has received this particular response and we can take this timeframe serious?? I want to be happy and excited after over four months of waiting, but am scared this is just another "not real" time frame.:wacko:

  12. (F) My prayers are going up for you in your situation right now, that He will give you the courage and the wisdom to make the right decisions for every day. Every day will bring a new set of circumstances and hurdles to face and I pray that you will have the fortitude and strength to face every coming day through this painful and difficult time. I have walked in your shoes and know it can be done, although not without much suffering.

I am so glad that you took the courage to share this story here with us and you are in all my prayers for protection and strength and guidance.

    (F) Becky

  13. Just to add when i emailed Cairo they told me the same thing. This is confusing to me really. As i stated in my previous post let me know what they tell you. If i find out anything different i will inform you also. Thanks

    AJ1

I'll let you know and thanks too. I think I would be absolutely completely crazy if I didn't get information and support from everyone here on VJ.

  14. :dance::dance::dance::dance::dance::dance::dance::dance:

His sisters made him go and it's just Irritable Bowel Syndrome!!!!!!!

    :luv:

Thanks for all the prayers guys...you're great!!!!!

SOOO glad to hear that it is nothing very very serious, but maybe he will be taking care of himself a little better now. IBS can be miserable if you don't treat it. Tell him to try and not stress!!!! This makes is sooo much worse. :)

  15. Well I am not sure if this is the same too you but i know when i called DOS they told me that they are not even doing his security checks that Cairo is. I talked to several people at DOS all told me the same that Cairo never requested them to do any checks that Cairo is doing the checks themselves. I am confused on this matter myself. I email the Embassy requarding my fiance's case and they told me he is on A/P still and they would contact me after A/P was completed so they actually are doing the checks there which i thougth was unusual.

    AJ1

THis is soooo confusing. I have not been told that Cairo is doing the checks themselves, but when I have emailed embassy regarding our case the answer is always "still doing necessary administrative processing." When I call DOS next week I will ask if this is the normal procedure that Cairo is not checking through DOS.
