CONGRATS!!!

Hi everyone,
 
I had my naturalization interview today. It was at 29 Federal Plaza @ 12:15pm July 16th 2018. I applied July 21st 2017 through my immigration lawyer. Not sure if mine was filed by mail or online but over took 1 year from submission to interview. I like in Brooklyn, NY.
 
I'm British, born and bred, 5 yr green card holder and divorced after 4.5 years on marriage, Him US citizen, me British. 
I saw a girl who came out before me and sneakily asked what her US history questions were as she waited for her oath letter, turns out I got different questions anyway : ) but i thought I'd just ask her anyway! I got the declaration of independence date mixed up due to nerves!! but got all the others correct. English is my first language and my ethnicity is Pakistani  
Marriage + divorce was brought up onnce by the officer, 'Why did you guys get divorced' he asked politely. I said 'the relationship just really broke down as we were just not good for each other at that stage' and he left it at that. I think he replied 'i'm sorry to hear that' which was sweet.
 
I was nervous as i made 2 trips home in 2016 each just shy of 3 months. so although I never left the country for more than 6 months at one, in total i did do so in that calendar year. 
But seemed to be no issue. He ticks each sentence in the application once you confirm the answer is correct so know your application! or have a copy!
 
At the end he ticked the box 'discussion cannot be made' but verballing told me 'I think you'll have no issues this application looks good to me' as he walked me out and scanned my 2 passports, one expired one current. 
I asked what the next step was, and if it was the 'supervisor review', could that happen now? He said 'No, no one is reviewing it after me, I just need to look over it one more time and i'll have time by end of day to keep checking your status online, Oath should be end of the month'.
 
So I got the feeling it will be approved. You do get nervous in the interview room because he asks lots of questions (ALL ON THE FORM' and i even got a memory blank when he asked me the current address! So keep a copy of your application printed and next to you to help guide your answers. 
 
My apt was for 12:15pm and i didn't get called in until 2:15pm so bring a snack and water like I did. Waiting room is super casual, people snakcing, talking on phones, watch the TV etc. They were playing TMZ and showing a clip of a pop star 'twerking' which was a bizarre and unprofessional thing to see while waiting in this setting, but it does help relax you I guess.
Overall, it was an ok experience, i was not grilled - one question about my divorce, one about why I left the country in 2016 (Travel plus sick relative and I had hospital letter to show him).. He also asked me what visa I used to enter before I had my green card, which was 5 years ago and i had to think for a while, it was my ESTA. And i made sure he knew he never overstayed or misused any visa, 
 
The interviewer was around 29, looked Filipino, he has a strong accent I had to ask him to repeat a few questions, which I felt awkward for asking as i didn't want to offend him. Which he nearly was. Overall, i think he was a very nice guy, no ego issues, not interested in making it longer than it needs to be. Serious about doing his job. Other interviewers calling people in also looked really nice, the way they greeted and said by to people he interviewed.
 
Mine asked me if I had had lunch, and how long my wait was, so there was room for a little bit of small talk to relax me. I had to redo my fingerprints 6 times as the machine just wasn't recognizing my prints. Was nervous about that, no idea why! But it's a nervous setting I guess.
 
Anyway, know your application and dates well. Bring a copy if you don't want to memorize it, you will get nervous and mix things up like apt numbers like i did, just out of nerves.

So I guess that officer wasn't playing with me when she said she spoke to the person that approves ROC and all he needed to do was take a look and I would get a letter in the mail I will keep u guys updated if indeed I receive this letter in mail! So Thankfull, hoping this is correct!!! God bless everyone who was been helping and accompanying my journey and hopefully many more people in similar situation get good news soon.

I just have my 751/400 combo interview last week.  I didn't get a notice for the 751 so I took the documents only mentioned in the N-400 letter. My spouse came along too and just waited the whole time.  I am a Aug 30 2016 filer. 
 
Most of the interview was about the information in the 751 packet, some general questions about the marriage/life and I had to update a few documents since my address changed.  My address change was processed but the officer requested I updated the original filing papers to reflect the new address for reasons I did not care to ask about.
The N-400 bit was a few minutes at most.
At the end, the officer congratulated me and handed me a summary of the appointment stating I passed and was recommended for citizenship.  Officer said I will get stuff by mail.
 
For those who put in enquiries on the website for case status update... I put in a few requests and it was a waste of time.  Never heard back with any useful info.  I scheduled an infopass just for additional information and was able to get current status of my case not available online or provided by a level 2 officer.  If you need an update, I would highly recommend infopass.

So, the ceremony was yesterday. Thanks for updating my status @Jaxx. I guess I'm a US citizen.
 
So, the whole ceremony was kinda over the top ridiculous - but fun to have witness. I didn't get my passport application submitted because the line was monstrous and I didn't plan to do it then before - so I hadn't filled it out nor gotten a picture taken. I'll just go to my local post office and get it done some time in the future. Don't have any immediate international travel plans until end of the year anyway.
 
So, they showed a recording of Donald Trump, wishing us good luck and telling how honorable it is to be a US citizen. If it would come from anyone else than him, It would have been better received. Having him talk is a comedy in itself. So, to anyone that will be going to the oath anytime soon - brace yourself. Donny video may make you lol!

Just another updates, so I just got my N-400 interview notice in mail yesterday and the time and date is exactly the same as I-751 interview notice that I got earlier on Monday. It is confirmed that I will have both interview on the same day. I think you should be hearing from them soon!

I had my interview yesterday.
I didn't wait too long at first, the officer called me and said we'll do the citizenship test first (I had a I751 pending).
I read and wrote what he asked and then to the civics part, the questions were:
1. What is freedom of religion?
2. How many U.S. Senators are there?
3. Name one state that borders Canada.
4. What ocean is on the west coast of the United States?
5. When was the constitution written?
6. Who is one of your state US Senator now?
 
After that, he said he can't approve me because of my I751 and asked if my spouse is with me, I told him yes and he said he will talk to both of us later. He asked me several more questions and asked to look at the paperwork I brought. He made copies of what he wanted and told me to wait outside until he'll call us. After 2 hours, he called us and we had an interview. He asked what else do I have to show him, I told him pictures. He looked at them and told us he will try to approve all today so if we can have a seat outside. After a while another officer came and said they're having issues with the system and she'll call me to let me know.
Hours later she did call me and said everything is approved and to come to the ceremony tomorrow (7/13/18)! 
Can't believe that only hours away I will be done with USCIS. 
I'll write here later about the ceremony.

My interview was finally scheduled. Now waiting for the letter. How long does it take again to show up in the system?
 
Also, the reason why it took this long for the oath ceremony to be scheduled  (I was approved during my interview on March 5) is that I moved from DC to Maryland two weeks after the interview. It then took USCIS almost 3 months to transfer my files to the Baltimore office. They only did so after I contacted my congressman. 

As of 10:30 am today, I am a US citizen 

Just an update! I just checked my stutus of N-400 online, the status is still the same  “ Interview was scheduled “ but this time the date changed from May 18 to July 6! I guess they just reschedule my interview today. Hopefully I get the letter soon, will keep you updated!

I had my I751 pending for year and half and today finally they have updated that card is in the mail.. i will apply for N-400 within a week..

I posted this earlier, but I guess it somehow didn't show as a reply to you. It doesn't mean anything, ignore it. I live in Los Angels too! My interview was on 3/26. 751 was approved on 4/26. Got the oath ceremony letter mailed notice on 5/2. I got 2 updates on my 751 saying exactly the same as yours a week after I got my oath letter and approval letter, they said my 751 was transferred to another office and second update said my 751 was transferred to NBC, identical to yours. I was naturalized on 5/23, and my 751 still has the same update. It was more than likely a ploy to make the 751/400 applications falsely think there's movements on their cases. Typical under the anti immigration White House. I am already a citizen, and my 751 is still in Missouri?lol. Ignore that update, and just wait for your oath letter. Your 751 is at the field office, it has not been transferred to Missouri. Just disregard those updates that are 100 percent not reliable.

I hope my bad luck applies only to the US immigration!    If so, this stupid journey is almost over so I'll be bad luck free, I hope!  
 
I'm not sure if it's a saying, but you are 100% right!    I'd rather be unlucky in immigration and super lucky in love for sure!  

Hi... I have been reading this topic from the very beginning... I just want to share my experience now that my journey is over... I just picked up my us passport this afternoon:
- submitted I-751 early nov 2016
- submitted n400 early nov 2017 (1 year later)
- early may 2018, i was informed that I-751 was transferred to benefit center in Missouri
- mid-may 2018, i received notification for n400 interview for end of june 2018
- i went to the interview, got approved for n400. Then i asked the question what about the I-751 (because I jointly filed for my minor child as well on the same application). Then panic for the IO, supervisor came, they decided to review further my case and to send me another appointment... i left uscis office disappointed....
- The day after, i received a phone call from uscis center director telling me that everything has been approved and to come 2 days later for oath ceremony.
- Got my naturalisation certificate 2 days later, gave back expired green card.
- 1 week later, I received 2 green cards for me and my child
- i asked for expedited us passport and went to pick it up 2 days later (today)
Conclusion: I made the right choice to file n400 while waiting for I_751 as nov 2016 filers just got approved at the end of june 2018. I shorted the whole process by 10 to 12 months.

It looks like there is a good chance that I won't be a US citizen by Nov to vote.  
 
If I had known that, I would have waited to apply for US citizenship until getting my 10-year Green Card.  
 
Since I was one of the unluckiest applicants for my I-130 application, I thought I would have a better luck this time.   
 
I now know that bad luck can follow you for a long time!  

is on the 16... So you also filled in California and got transferred the ROC to NBC?

All correct but mine is in Jacksonville Fl. Wish me luck and I will b back to share experience so you can know how to get prepared. 😆 

I guess it’s a combine interview but go with your spouse . I have my interview for n400 in 8days and I ll be going with my spouse cos I have a pending I 751 case . Hopefully I get everything done thesame day . You v got nothing to loose so it’s better you go with your spouse and if they don’t need to interview him your spouse will just be there to support you. I am hoping they take care of the pending I1751 because we are at least 6 months outside of normal processing time. We did not care because we had a schedule N400, but not that's ridiculous. They need to take care of that mess. They are sticklers about people respecting their laws and yet they are being so inefficient.
