I'm currently trying out Ubuntu (oo-boon-too) linux and so far I like it, I found a walk-through to run World of Warcraft, it has Firefox as it's default browser, while it will take a little getting use to (I have set up a dual boot Ubuntu/XP professional RU) I might just stick with Ubuntu if I can keep up with it.

They seem to have a very concise instruction page for anything I would want to do with my computer...and it's free...also regular upgrade (6 months) and an update manager that keeps your system up to date!

Best of all...it is FREE!

I admit, I was "afraid" to try the new Windows OSs when they came out (95,98,2000,XP) but Vista...I was excited to try, couldn't wait!

My old computer died so we bought a new one for me and salvaged what we could from my old one for Olga's computer.

New computer had Vista installed (WOOHOO!) and I upgraded the RAM to 2GB, should have kept my old video card though this one is newer and slightly better (but draws from system resources)...

Get it home setup (and upgraded RAM) install the wireless network card, connect to the internet, and begin installing World of Warcraft - Disk 1 and I wait...

and I wait...

and I wait...

2 hours later "please insert Disk 2" and I wait some more!

I tried several different options (including moving install files to the Hard drive and EVEN that doesn't work...

Several tries and 2 days later I give up on Windows Vista and reinstall XP (Russian Version), ONLY after I find the driver for the sound card which I was told wasn't supported by the company in XP (ironically or coincidentally) the maker of the sound card DOES support this particular sound card in XP

now almost 5 months of worry free surfing and playing WoW...5 months of NO (null, zero, NOT A ONE) problem and still 255GB free hard drive space...I'm mostly happy but I often wonder if my computer is actually utilizing it full potential (dual core) in a standard WinXP Professional SP2...

either way, I'm one unhappy Vista User for 2 days and extremely happy XP user....and I believe it was Vista SP1 btw.

Curious what kind of suffering goes on in our neighbors to the south? People starving? ... anyone, or is it just depressed wages combined with the last of personal responsibility to not have 10 children when you can only afford to feed 5?

Honestly what is going on in Mexico has happened before but instead of leaving for another country where life is better they had a revolution and MADE things somewhat better... (ok maybe not exactly but certainly similar)

I've lived a loooong life thus far and frankly, John's strategy to cope with this problem is spot on. I've owned four homes in my lifetime, and each one I borrowed against responsibly.

I lost nearly 35k on a couple that were "subprime lenders" back in 2003. I had a house that I needed to sell before my capital gains exemption was to expire.

This couple placed earnest money on the house, was supposedly "pre-qualified, and pre-approved" but later could not consumate the deal.

It was found that they had judgements against them for not paying their rent in florida where they skipped out on their landlord.

They were going to purchase my house with *no down payment*, having borrowed that amount with a second loan for "home equity" that they haven't yet earned, and it's no wonder to me that we're having this supposed "credit" crisis.

These are the people that were buying houses. Not stupid people for the most part but simply people that should not have been allowed to purchase these houses. They were not the "duped, but rather the "dupers" trying to erase bad credit and the inabilty to own these properties with lots of deceptions. You know the type, those that "work the system".

These people I speak of stalled my sale just long enough to screw me out of my capital gains deduction fully knowing that they never qualified to buy the house to begin with.

McCain got it right. It's not the governments place to bail out such people.

As usual, the democrats paint these people as "victims" but in reality they're charlatans that were working the system to get what they couldn't afford.

While I will agree that there are many borrowers that didn't read the fine print of what was being sold to them (and probably a few who knew exactly what they were doing), fact is these borrowers didn't decide to offer "No doc" loans or the interest only loans or the arms where you COULD pay less then the actual interest...all of which I believe got us into this situation...
