Three men were sitting together bragging about how they had given their
new wives duties.
The first man had married a woman from Tennessee and bragged that he had
told his wife she was going to do all the dishes and house cleaning.
He said it took a couple days but on the third day he came home to a
clean house and the dishes were done.
The second man had married a woman from Florida . He bragged that he had
given his wife orders that she was to do all the cleaning, dishes and
the cooking. On that the first day he didn't see any results, but the
next day it was better. By the third day, his house was clean, the
dishes were done and he had a huge dinner on the table.
The third man married a girl from Arizona. He told her that her duties
were to keep the house clean, dishes washed, lawn mowed , laundry washed
and hot meals on the table for every meal. He said the first day he
didn't see anything, the second day he didn't see anything but by the
third day most of the swelling had gone down and he could see a little
out of his left eye; enough to fix himself a bite to eat, load the
dishwasher and telephone a landscaper.

As if the story wasn't bad enough... (from Phoenix)
Del Hoyo, an illegal immigrant, had been arrested last month on charges of third-degree burglary and underage drinking. He was sentenced to probation and was voluntarily removed from the country on Monday, Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman Vinnie Picard said. That means Del Hoyo illegally re-entered the country between Monday and Thursday.

Isn't making an obscene gesture his Constitutional right (i.e. freedom of expression)?
The question is whether this expression was done in his private or official capacity...
No questions then cause the article said he was in a marked police car and in uniform.

So much for the 40 years for the anchor babies to be effective, seems only 20...technically 18.
How so? If the man wanted a green card, he'd have his wife file for one. Except that he's ineligible. And his 'anchor baby' son didn't get him a green card. If he had, they wouldn't be in this situation, but his son wasn't old enough to file for him. He's not old enough to file for a family-based visa for his mother. either. It's right in the rules on the I-485. There isn't a way around that. I wonder if 'the help' was getting his mother here on a work visa that allowed her to adjust status on her own, because a person younger than eighteen can't sign an I-864 either.
Whether having a son die in the military gives parents a right to stay is rather a separate matter. Let's try to get the causation at least a little bit straight here.
Interesting idea, how did the mother obtain any visa without lying to a government offical about previously entering the USA without authorization, kinda hard to deny that when she had a child in the US, isn't it? Same question for her Adjustment though...
So to those of us enduring this process this article should rasie some questions while the general public it is just a tear jerker of a story...
this is just my opinion....

Don't get me wrong this is a tragedy and no parent should ever outlive their child but...

see this post from a week or so ago...
I remember reading that post but this story was in todays newspaper, seems Mexico is more then willing to let her be a diplomat
-
doesn't she qualify for the 10 year ban?
MEXICO CITY — The Mexican government said Tuesday it is talking with U.S. officials about whether a deported illegal entrant and activist could return to the United States. The entrant, Elvira Arellano, was arrested and sent back to her native Mexico last month after taking refuge in a Chicago church for a year to avoid a deportation order.
Mexican Foreign Secretary Patricia Espinosa said she approached U.S. authorities on Arellano's behalf after the 32-year-old activist asked Mexican President Felipe Calderon to help her return to the United States legally as a "peace and justice" ambassador.
Espinosa did not say whether Mexico planned to give Arellano the diplomatic post, but said officials were trying to determine if there was any way she could could go back to Chicago.
Arellano's U.S.-born 8-year-old son, Saul, is a U.S. citizen. He flew to Mexico on Friday to be reunited with his mother, and plans to stay here indefinitely, although he was expected to return briefly to the United States this month to participate in an immigrant-rights march.
Mexico has yet to receive an answer from U.S. officials, Espinosa said at a news conference Tuesday.
"The government in the receiving country has to authorize diplomatic posts. It has to grant the visa," Espinosa said.
Arellano said she would not back down from her request and was angered that Mexico was seeking a U.S. visa, adding that the Mexican government should not have to ask permission to send her north of the border.
"I'm not asking for any visa," she said. "I want a diplomatic post as ambassador of peace and justice, and I won't accept anything less."

I tend to agree with you Meriem, IF my child were to marry a foreigner and then pass away, I would most likely be willing to support their widow/er as my child would have! I certainly did not mean any disrespect with my statement but after the application has been entered, how could you ammend it to reflect your ability to support the spouse of your late child?! Is it currently possible?
And yes it is a terrible tragedy about the man who tried to save the swimmers only to drown, himself and I do feel that she should be offered her Green Card, afterall her husband died a hero and was honored as such by the Coast Guard!

And definately belonging on VJ... the only thing is how are they to support themselves if this law goes through.
I mean part of the application is support, if the USC dies how will they not become a "burden to the state"?

In other news: New passport rules reaping millions in child support cash...
hey, i saw that somewhere,,,
It was a short-lived yet extremely popular fad, Brother Dean. Like Deely boppers.
so true...i blinked and it was gone
They're gone!

...Caswell was a convicted felon and that he had multiple firearms and body armor in his home...
She couldn't see danger ahead?
Perhaps that is why she did not go to his house =/

We go to DeAnza about once a week!

Crazy thing is, she could probably go afterthe real father now and get back child support from him too, while still collecting from this guy!
the worst part was it was not the woman's idea to pursue his past child support "obligation" but "the state appealed the ruling on her behalf "...even more

I'd love to retire in Russia, I had a wonderful trip but there are a few things that have to happen first...save lots of money and learning Russian are the main two...
Heck, if the 401(k) was bigger, I would have moved that way instead of her coming here!
-
I am glad it seems to be going well for you!
I bought an old laptop off ebay before my trip to Russia to store photographs on since my poor digital camera has such a small capacity and the memory sticks were so expensive (that was the only thing I noticed that cost about the same here and there...yes I priced them there, $60 here and 2700 rubles there for the same size, don't recall what I was looking at at the time though.
Laptop worked well even though it was considerably slower then I would have liked...
I still use it as a DOS box, even had it connected to the internet using Windows for Workgroups 3.11 for awhile but I did not like the cord (main reason) so I stopped that.

I don't mind most languages but I think spanish irks me mainly because of the government bending over backwards (our MVD booklet is available in Spanish and English) to please the spanish speakers, what about the Russian speakers or the German speakers, the French?!
There are people at my work that are from the Philippinest, they speak to each other in other then English... we also have some veitnamese and chinese that speak to each other and THAT doesn't bother me at all!

Olga and I just had our cat "fixed" (I also realized that this was a strange way to refer to it, especially with Olga learning English) today, there was no weight chart for cats from the clinic I took her to only $29 for male cats and $49 for female cats (+$5 in heat).
I was sad that she would be in pain for the next few days but I also know in time it is best, no more locking her out of the room because of her "yelling" and no more telling her to get away when she is "presenting" (sticking her hiney in the air and cocking (pun NOT intended =O) her tail to the side...
she has already found her favorite place to sit, on my lap but when I am in the chain, unfortunately she cannot sit there...instructions say avoid high places and I am assuming the chair is high enough =(
now she is asleep in her pet carrier which has a nice soft bed for her!

I admit I liked the internet dreaam better, wasn't as repetative are chocolate rain.
I would have to say this guy will most likely go places, he has a good voice...

And that is exact what the ex-wife has done...moved on AND expect the ex to pay!
