  1. Yes, they do write that in NY state.. I renewed my new DL a week ago and it has the EAD expiry date on it.. Per my understanding, if your previous DL is still valid then u can still drive because it is the expiry date of the DL that matters not the expiry date of Temp Visitor status.

I renewed my DL last week based of my EAD card and this week my GC approved so i would have to go there again and for the third time to get a new DL.

Thank you! My previous ID was non-DL, now a want a DL (but we don't really drive in NYC so I'm in no rush). I know that the expiration date matters more than the status but my landlord made me put in an extra couple thousand as a deposit because of that writing on my ID (as in - we're not even sure you have status until the end of your lease, so what if you get booted and whatever), so I'd really love something that doesn't say that so that I can get that money back lol

  2. Congrats to everyone on successful interviews and GCs! Good times!

I got my EAD today, so back to work on Monday. Also will start the Drivers License process in a couple of weeks.

Question to everyone who had done it with EAD rather than GC in hand - do they write a "temporary visitor until [date of EAD expiration]" there or not? I had a non-driver New York State ID with my previous EAD (on student visa) and it had that and it's annoying.

  3. Yep, you're pretty much right and prepare to for a long wait, no need to be on ants:)

In a few days you'll get a text and email with receipt numbers and your checks will get cashed (sometimes in reverse order), then you get hard copy receipts in the mail. Within a couple of weeks you get a biometrics appointment letter and your appointment will probably be around last week of August. After the biometrics, within a couple of weeks your I-485 status might change to "Case is ready to be scheduled for an interview" - then you're all clear, or within that time period you might get an RFIE.

For the I-765/I-131 combo card the wait is around 75-100 days, depending on USCIS workload, your background check timeline and whether you get an RFIE (if it's on I-765/I-131 forms it will definitely slow that down, if on other two forms - it wouldn't necessarily affect it, but still might).

And when your case get transferred to a local office (as well as your interview appointment) - depends on the local office. NYC and San Fran and Chicago can have more than 8 months wait, for example, while some others can get interviews notices before EAD. You can check your office processing times on the USCIS website.

you should also fill out your timeline so that it's easier for folks here answer your questions if you have any:)

  4. My card was mailed me too today. Ours must have been in similar stacks because we got the same updates on the same dates for the EAD. I'm also hoping will be here this week!

Yes! Pretty much same timeline. They normally send a 2-day priority it seems, so hoping for Wednesday, Thursday at latest!

Just got fancy-papered NOAs for EAD and AP.

My card shows in Tennessee as per USPS, with an expected date for this Wednesday... Can't wait!

Congratulations to everybody on your approvals... So happy!

I got my NOA for EAD today, as well. But my actual EAD doesn't show up in my USPS tracker:(

  5. Like I said I tried arguing I was a us person and all that, but it was useless. Will go back there when I get the green card (hopefully)

There are a lot of people in the front office that are clueless about how to deal with slightly less straightforward cases... I had an experience at Chase where the lady couldn't open an checking account for me without the approval of her manager (who wasn't at the office) because I have a paternal name (sort of a middle name) written in my foreign passport in Russian but not in English and it was not in any of my US documents - ID, other debit and credit cards, SSN card, student ID - nowhere, except for in my foreign passport in Russian only. I went straight to Bank of America and opened it there.

  6. My bank still made me do it. I tried to argue that I'm a us person, will file taxes this coming year, filed my taxes back home as a person who left the country, have a ssn... The bank person even called someone from corporate. But because I didn't have proof of legal residency, they made me sign the w8ben

W8BEN doesn't have anything to do with having or not having SSN and filing or not filing taxes. I've been in the States for a couple of years with an SSN on F-1 visa and had to fill it out multiple times - for a bank, for my freelance jobs etc. W8BEN is for non-resident aliens and is an analogue for W9 that citizens and resident aliens fill out. If your a non-resident alien and your country has a tax treaty with the US (e.g. Russia has - if you are in the US less than 183 days a year, you're exempt from taxes - it's a very common one, many countries have the same setup) you can claim exemption on this form. Although if you're spending more than 183 days it doesn't matter, so you pretty much just put your SSN there, so that they have on record that you don't want the treaty applied to you and they can tax you same way as others.

For a bank though, if they don't make OP do it but just kind of send it to OP by mail, I believe you can skip it for now. If you have a regular savings account, you're probably getting 10 cents worth of income from it and your status will change to resident alien soon anyways and at that point you can follow up with them.

  7. My AP & EAD got approved yesterday....within a day of opening the service request. No updates on i-485 or i-130.......god knows when they will touch our case.

It was probably just time for yours to be processed, your service request probably haven't even been assigned to an officer so quickly (it takes a day or two at least). Congrats once again.

Still no news for me, but I'm checking 500 receipt numbers, 250 before mine and 250 after and there were a lot of approvals yesterday, some before my number, some after, so I'm hoping to get an update within the next few days.

  8. Your timeline says you opened service request and also sent letter to congressman. Maybe I should do the same.

Also you did receive update for interview. We havent heard anything at all :( I hate this waiting game.

We'll see in a few days whether my service request actually did anything. But it doesn't hurt to submit it. You can do it online (I did it online). As for the congressman, I haven't received a response, so at day 90 if nothing happens I will call them or try to contact the ombudsman.

  9. We have almost the same timeline (4/29 received date and 5/31 biometrics) also no update on EAD

No update on our case.......still waiting. No EAD or AP.....no update at all.

    04/28/2016 - Packet reached USCIS (i-130, i-485, i-131, i-765)

    05/05/2016 - Checks cashed

    05/06/2016 - USCIS Email/Text acceptance confirmation

    05/09/2016 - NOA1 hard copy

05/13/2016 - Biometrics letter arrived in mail

    05/27/2016 - Biometrics

  10. So, last Thursday (day 76), I submitted an online SR for my EAD and today it was assigned to an officer and I got a response: "Your case is currently under review. You should receive a decision or notice of other action shortly."

This is not super helpful per se, as I know it's still within 90 days anyways, but at least I'm happy my SR was assigned to an officer and processed quickly, maybe it will help my EAD to move quicker. We'll see

I also wrote to the congressman on the same day as I submitted the SR, but hasn't gotten any response...

  11. Out of curiosity, how many of ya'll front loaded your applications?

Like joint info, like bank account statements, joint car insurance, etc, along with relationship proof, photo's of the wedding//pics around the time of the wedding.

We sent lease, utility bills, bank statements and friends' affidavits. The rest of the stuff (photos, pet adoption papers, insurance) - will bring to the interview.

  12. I called USCIS about my EAD today (76th day), got a very nice representative. She didn't offer me an opportunity to put in a SR but gave me an option to do an expedite request. Although she did say that a job offer wouldn't be a valid reason to do so (seems to have worked for other VJ folks:)).

I decided not to do it just yet, as I don't have a job offer in hand (I hopefully will be coming back to the job I had on OPT, so there is no formal offer letter per se, although I can probably ask the HR to create it).

But I went ahead and submitted a SR online, explaining my situation. The confirmation email said "expect response by August 5" lol

  13. Many people adjusting for K-1 have their interviews waived, as they've already had those while filing for K-1, that's probably the case with OP:)

    Congrats!:)

No problem but however, it sounds to me that you have been one of the lucky ones to have gotten an approval without having to attend an interview. I suggest that you give USCIS a call and inquiry about the status of your I-485. Do not mention that you have gotten a letter in the mail. You just want to see what they tell you and if they tell you that you have been approved then you can ask them what your next steps should be.

Good luck again and do keep us informed.
