Go to the embassy and apply and expect them not to even look at any of your papers. Just relax and just answer them in straightforward manner and just be honest. Never elaborate and do not provide any information unless it is being asked. IO are smart and they will know if you are telling the truth. I applied once and my attitude was "i'll be fine even if I am not given a visa - it's not the end of the world" It is a plus if you have travelled to other countries already. Mine took only 5 minutes and was asked just 2 questions. that's it. I just gave them a straightforward answer - the question was "Purpose and What Do I Do. Just relax and breath and don't get anxious - you will be fine.
-
in other states, you mean? Or do you mean the territory of Guam, Virgin Islands? etc.
You will be fine, it doesn't matter as long as they have the required visa to stay - they are not required to stay with you.
-
I believe you already knew what immigration officers always ask (there are always 2) - "What's your purpose and how long do you intend to stay". Don't fiddle with your answer and just be straightforward. IO will not care about your age and your gender - all they want to make sure is - you will be going back home and you will not overstay. If you can answer them straight on why you are staying for 5 months, where will you be staying, how are you going to pay for your expenses - then you will be fine. If you are bringing cash of more than 10K, declare it. If they ask you to show proof of income or money to spend while in the US - show them. If they ask for your 5 months itinerary - give it to them. Do not hold back and never conceal/lie. You will be fine, just relax and enjoy your vacation.
-
If you can wait and would want to save time and money - finish your Nursing degree in the Philippines. Once you finish it, all you need to do is pass the NCLEX exam, get the school paperwork certified upon passing and you are good to go. As long as you pass the board, employers would not care where you graduate. Unless you have the money to pay an average $11K/sem++, get your credentials verified, then by all means you can finish it in the US. Just a thought. Others might have other ideas.

Its a normal feeling for newcomers. the sooner you accept reality and embrace your new environment, the better for you. i have the same feeling when i moved here a few years ago. in my former country, we are boss, there are people who can do the minuscule errands or jobs for you for a very small fee. we don't do laundry or clean the house because there are people (maids) who are cheap. i used to be an executive in that part of the world before. i command people and i have managers reporting to me. what made me move here is because of family and better future (live the american dream as they always say). i used to miss that life when i was new. but then, i have to accept and swallow my pride for the better. i am humbled by my experience here. there are great opportunities if you will stick it out and open your eyes. just be patient and meet new friends and acquaintances. when i went to visit my previous home (after so many years, it's totally different and thats when i really appreciate that there is no place i would rather be than here. this our home now - its not perfect but at least, when you work hard, you will go places. i dont know about your situation but hold on tight and things will be alright.

Finally, journey is done - reached the finish line - officially a US Citizen.
Good Luck to all - your time will come.

I am now a US Citizen

Anybody here naturalizing in Manassas, VA on Jul 21?
-
just count the trip you made since you were granted a green card. thats what i did and did not have a problem. i made several trips to asia and canada and it totaled 60 days. there may be other people who have opinions. good luck
-
Congrats!
Thanks!
-
NO..hindi ka pede lumabas ng US...hahaha...just kidding...you can leave/travel outside the country anytime. just make sure to count the days you are out of the country. there is a certain requirements for physical presence when you apply for naturalization.

I believe that because you are a conditional GC, it will have that stamp on it. when i got my 10 year GC, it doesn't have that stamp on it. maybe SS have changed their policy. also, i know that the number is your lifetime number even though you update it to remove the stamp. wait for some other poster, they may have better opinions.
-
better ask a lawyer - as far as i know, if they are not a USC and they are already married when they get here, they will still get a 10 year card assuming that they did not get their greencards through marriage (meaning they were sponsored through work or thru other legal means except marriage to a USC).
-
You're good to go. GC that expires in 3 years are conditional GC - for those who got married to a USC and the USC sponsored the spouse and their marriage is less than 3 years. they have to do an ROC prior to the expiration (for conditional GC). if you have 10 years, you can apply for citizenship 90 days prior to your 5th year as a GC holder).

yayyyy just received text saying my oath ceremony notice was mailed!!! I never received the "in line" text, it went straight to notice mailed!! Exactly 1 week after my interview. I'm so happy! Almost there!
Good luck to everyone still waiting, hopefully we'll all be done soon enough, and congrats to those who are already finished the journey!
congrats!! that means my field office is a little slow. but i have patience...just a little more
-
So it takes about 60 days from the time of interview to Oath in the Washington, DC office office??
-
Brothers and Sisters of USC can be petitioned/sponsored to come but have to wait in line (takes about 20-25 years). It's F4 category if I am not mistaken.

The question was if he can break the his journey into 2. My mindset was that he has to pick him/her up AND the convenient thing to do is to book a flight closest to the final destination to where they live/located. I would book the flight closest to where I live. There are areas that you have to drive at least an hour or 2 to get to an airport. As an answer to the question - NO IT DOESNT MATTER WHERE YOU BOOK YOUR FLIGHT. YOU CAN BOOK TO ANYWHERE YOU WANT, ITS ALL UP TO YOU.
-
You have to book your flight closest to your destination (e.g MNL-LAX). If they have a direct flight, no worries. If the airline has no direct flight to the final destination, they will be the one who will break the journey (e.g. MNL-NRT, NRT-LAX). Unless you have a planned stay for a day or 2 in any city, you have to book it twice and it will cost you more because it will become a multi-legged journey. Which airport is the final destination? If the POE is LAX, he/she will be processed at LAX before continuing her journey the final destination.
-
DC does seem to be a little slow when it comes to scheduling ceremonies. It may take a few more weeks but not more than that if everything is ok with your application (no reason to think it isn't). They don't give you much notice for the oath. For me it was 9 days but others have received the letter the day before he ceremony. Once you get the update about the letter being mailed you can call and see if they'll tell you the date over the phone. Sometimes they will and sometimes they won't. Hopefully you'll be scheduled for a ceremony in July or August.
thank you Jimmy
I just can't get anything planned yet as far as going out of town, as I do not want to miss the schedule.
It's a waiting game for now.
-
Congratulations to everyone who had received and has been scheduled for the Oath. I was interviewed on 6/13 and my status was changed to Oath To Be Scheduled last 6/21. I am not sure how much longer it will take as I have to make an advance plan for trip overseas in the next 3 months. I have to notify my employer as well for the ceremony so I can be excused from work. Is it typical to wait longer than a month from the interview date to oath taking schedule?
-
My wife received her Oath Letter today! Her Oath Ceremony will be on June 30th at 9AM... Too bad I probably won't be able to make it since I'm out of town for work until the following day. I'm not sure if I can get home a day early.
Updating the chart (Hopefully the formatting and such isn't weird since I'm on a Macbook now):

you cannot file for naturalization online (only if you are paying immigrant free, I-131A and I-90) - you have to mail the paperwork through a dropbox. just include a form that will notify you through text messages regarding status of your application. just follow the instructions on what to send. include a cover letter with a checklist on what is included.
