  1. My card finally came in the mail yesterday - woohoo!

A question I have for those that are now going through the naturalization/citizenship process. Is there anyone who has been able to file for dual citizenship. Anyone know how to get more information regarding this? I would like to keep both Canadian and US citizenship and apply for dual citizenship. Any downsides to doing this? Any limitations?

    Thanks!

  2. FINALLY APPROVED! After an RFE, repeat fingerprinting I got an email this morning saying the new card was in process. Cannot explain how relieved I am!!!

Question - how soon after receiving the initial alert online, did you all get the card and notice in the mail??

Also--- any of you that have successfully filed the forms and info for naturalization care to share the process and what is involved as that will be my next thing to do.

Did you include any affidavits with your application? In our case, because we also live in someone else's home, we wrote an affidavit explaining our living situation and any contributions we offer. We also got the other individuals in the home to write an affidavit attesting to everything. Did you send all statements for the joint CC and joint bank accounts or other joint bills? Copies of the cards? Tax transcripts?

We included all CC statements, joint tax filings. I think the only thing we didn't do was get an affidavit from my MIL which we are going to send this time. We sent copies of the joint bills we had at that time (internet and car insurance), but we have also transferred the hydro and electricity to our account now so we will be sending that as well.

  4. Hi all,

    Hoping for some advice:

We got a RFE 1 week ago, stating that they wanted additional proof of financial cohabitation. The house me and my husband live in, with our mother-in-law was purchased fully by her and is in her name. Thus, we have no mortgage and do not pay her rent, we live as a joint family. Initially, I was the only one working and my husband began working a 1-1.5 years later at which time we offered to pay for internet but she was still paying for the electricity and hydro. My question is how to go about showing that we are in fact cohabiting, but there is no mortage, bc we have none. We dont have receipts for rent, because we dont pay any. We have transferred the hydro and electricity under our name and to be withdrawn from our account and will be providing statements for that. What other things could we use to show stronger financial evidence?

We have already provided statements of our CC, joint accounts.

This has been immensely stressful for me, and I am hoping for some additional advice to check off as many boxes before we submit the RFE.

    Thank you!

  5. Hi everyone,

Anyone thats gotten their 18 month extension try to travel outside of the US during this time? Since the green card is expired, did you get your passport stamped or just carry the extension letter with you? Any issues that anyone faced regarding this? I'm hoping to travel outside of the country in 2 weeks and there is no info pass appt available at my local field office.

  6. Are we sure that this means that a new receipt will be issued to everyone that filed before June 2018? Has anyone called or confirmed this with USCIS?

Even though they are extending it to 18months, the California Center time frame says 18 months to 20 months waiting period .....so ridiculous.

Also - anyone know if our application stays at the California Center or does it get sent to the local field offices? If so, when does that happen?

Husbands green card is expiring in 2 days and he just received an email from HR that he needs to prove he’s eligible to work or be terminated. I’m basically preparing for a fight. I wasn’t expecting this because he works for a major corporation (one of the two big pharmacy chains). He’s armed with all I-9 info he needs so hopefully it won’t be a problem.

I let him neglect gettinf his ssn restrictions removed bc I was nagging and he wasn’t interested in taking off work to do it. I gave up. We’ll see when he goes to work tomorrow if that was a big mistake.

I guess he can’t use his extension letter to get the restrictions removed? He’s SOL until roc is approved?

Make an appointment with your local field office. I think they can give you an extension there.

  8. Hey everyone, USCIS just issued this statement:

"As of June 11, 2018, petitioners who file Form I-751, Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence, or Form I-829, Petition by Entrepreneur to Remove Conditions on Permanent Resident Status, will receive a Form I-797 receipt notice that can be presented with their Form I-551, Permanent Resident Card, as evidence of continued status for 18 months past the expiration date on their Permanent Resident Card.

We are making the change from 12 to 18 months because current processing times for Form I-751 and Form I-829 have increased over the past year.

Additionally, we will issue new Form I-797 receipt notices to eligible conditional permanent residents whose Form I-751 or I-829 was still pending as of June 11, 2018. Those Form I-797 receipt notices will also serve as evidence of continued status for 18 months past the expiration date on petitioner’s Permanent Resident Card."

My receipt said extension for 1 year. Does this mean that they are going to be sending out another receipt notice to extend the green card to 18 months for EVERYONE? WE who filed in April, May were largely affected by this delay so will we be getting this extension??? The standard time period for the California Center says 18 months to 20 months. If you dont get your extended green card within that time, that means you can't work since this receipt says its renewing it for travel AND work.

Anyone know more about this? Anyone try to call their local field office or the USCIS number??? I'm seriously stressed about this.

Firstly you should get a reminder just before the 90 days, there is a calendar somewhere that someone will share, so you can work out your dates for 90 days before.  Please do not file even a day before as they will return your application nor after.  You receive a letter a week or so later, then your extension letter and then your biometrics evidence. Interviews are rare I think around 10 percent.   If you file too little evidence you might get one, too much the same and if there is a red flag again you might.  There is an awful lot of information on ROC in the ROC forum.  Documents its evidence, evidence, evidence the last two years of being a married couple, joint utility bills, rent/mortgage, pensions, car insurance, joint credit cards, pictures, vacation/holiday receipts the list is endless. There is a pinned topic in ROC section about this very helpful!  This is probably the most evidence you need during your whole visa journey.  It will take around a year to obtain your GC, might be sooner, might be later, there are timelines and processing times on this forum.  Prepare for a long wait and good luck!

    Thanks!
Could you provide me the link to the timeline/processing time section of the forum please.

  10. Thank you all for your answers!

Supporting documentation makes sense. I filed from Houston, Texas.

What is the earliest that you all have been able to file? Or has everyone stuck to 90 days.

The length of the 1 year waiting time, is that from the time of filing the I-751 to the receipt of the 10 year visa? Or just simply the NOA for the 1 year extension?

How long did it take you guys to get the 10 year visa from the time of filing the I-751.

  11. Hi guys,

I'm about 6 months out from the 2 year anniversary of my conditional green card. Would you guys recommend that I file my forms and fees sooner than the 90 days that they recommend on the website? Is there any downside to filing early? I'm seeing that its taking quite a long time for them to respond, so I figured I would start sooner rather than later.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks.

  12. Has anyone changed their address once they've received the green card? On the website it asks if your case is still pending. Mine is technically not since I've gotten my green card so Im unsure as to whether to respond to no or yes.

Has anyone successfully changed their address once they've gotten their green card? Can you provide any help. Is it sufficient to do this via online?

    Thanks.

  13. Hi all,

I am approaching the end of my 2nd year of having my conditional green card (through marriage). On the USCIS website, it states you can file form I-751 90 days prior to the expiration date. I am still a few months away from this and I wanted to know if there was anyone who could kindly share their experience with this. Was filing the form enough? How quickly did you hear back, do they just mail you another green card that is not conditional? Did anyone go for another interview? What documents are needed to take that are different from the ones we initially filed and took to our first interview? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    - Tammy

  14. Sure!

Jan 6th 2016 - sent my application to the Chicago Location (overnight shipping)

Jan 7th 2016 - application received - this was my priority date

Jan 19th, 2016 - received receipt letters from MSC

Jan 29th, 2016 - Received letter for biometrics (for Feb 11th)

Feb 1st - did walk in Biometrics appointment (successfully)

March 15, 2016 - Application ready for interview from MSC

April 8th, 2016 - received EAD and travel document combination card (after going through my local congressman because I had already been 90+ days --- that really helped, I was approved on the same day I reached out to them)

April 25th, 2016 - application ready for interview, interview given for May 25th, 2016

May 25th, 2016 - Interview completed at Houston Field office and green card approved!

Awaiting Green Card in the mail.

Please note - I found it THE most helpful to make an infopass appointment to get information from them regarding where my file was. I don't think calling the customer service line was that helpful for me. My office was about 25 minutes away so I made a few and went in and talked to an officer. This is very helpful because they can always direct you to the supervisor etc, which is not possible over the phone.

I wish everyone the best of luck. Be patient. Very very patient - I know easier said than done lol, but try.
