  1. Hi everyone!

I'm on a IR-1 since 2018, not citizen yet, working and in good status.

Silly question I feel I need to ask:

My wife's son got into trouble in another State and hasn't been convicted but is on probation for 3 years..... basically, he's on the list for having been accused of some sexual offence. Long ugly story with ex-girlfriend.

He's hoping to come to our State where all our family resides and asked if my wife and I can host him in our home until he finds his ground here, which is totally fine with me of course.

My question is: can it affect my current status, and most importantly my upcoming request for citizenship, please?

    Thank you.

  2. Hi OverThePond!

I think you may find your answered with that recent thread:

Nothing is really black and white sadly.

Being married though, is definitely the fastest process.

I was married in Vegas, like that, in 2009, still happily married and completely legit. 🙂

I know it's very stressful for both of you, but hang on there, mate, it's all worth it!

  3. Thank you @yuna628 for the good advise.

I am earning just above minimum wage and my wife isn't working, with some remaining UK dept so these are big number for me, but I will chew over these 😊

My employer does not offer insurance until the 90 day probation is fulfilled, which for me was Dec 11, and I was only presented it 7 days later.

This is really the bottom end of the year.

Until then, my job wasn't guaranteed, and I certainly was not about to engage myself in an expense that would have jeopardized my financial resources.

I was hoping to be exempt for the duration of my probation though, since I neither could afford one then, nor was I able to obtain one then. The last 3 weeks of December is the only time I should be penalized, so I feel, unless it can be counted as the gap time of grace.

    What do you think?

Try this page to work out answers to your question https://www.healthcare.gov/fees/fee-for-not-being-covered/

2018 has penalties. That link will help you know how much.

    Thank you so much Wuozopo

    This is a great lead.

I'll be digging in and see if I can be exempt seeing I have started late.

So far I've come to understand that it's not that I should have an insurance, it's that I should have had.

    Thank you again.....

  5. Hi all :)

(I hope this is the right forum)

I am a little lost about health insurance - in relation to - tax return time, and I wonder if anyone could help please.

I have arrived in the US on 08/15/2018.

I have started work on 09/11/2018.

I have just now learnt that I am obliged by law to have a health insurance, and since I am seemingly also obliged to report for tax return and that I don't yet have a health insurance, I may be financially penalized heavily..... that's as far as I understand it.......

now, when my eligibility to apply for health insurance through my job, the enrolment period, I was told, was over, unless I pay extra to compensate for the missed time.

At the time I didn't quite understand, so I said I would be thinking about it.

Today, visiting the VJ forum, I thought it a good idea to check out the healthcare.org to apply there, but also there, after answering all their questions, I got a screen telling me that "the open enrolment is over" and that "I don't qualify for special enrollment period at this time"

Besides that, I am not ready, or even able, to pay 300 bucks per month for whatever "offer" I am receiving..... my pay may be considered too high for help but it certainly isn't enough for that much money.

I am so confused about the whole health care thing, especially since I have learnt that I may be penalized on my tax return for not having one.

    Could you advise please?

    Many thanks!

You have to sometimes take a slightly lower level position at first and then build from there

Thank you Ben&Zian~ Yes, I've been doing that.... in the UK I used to get $22/hr but understand I'm restarting over 🙂

Have you tried applying at an employment agency?

On a side note:  I would be very cautious about applying for food stamps at this point.

    Thank you~

    We're starting agencies today.

Caution is best yeah? Like... best not?

where in Ohio are you? What is your line of work? Do you have the local requisites for this job?

    Richland county.

I've applied in different fields, retail, sakes, manufacturing, health, dollar stores, administration etc...I'm pretty versatile.

There are always jobs available.  It's just a matter of what type of work you are willing to do and what kind of pay you are willing to accept.

    Thank you gregcrs2~

    I'm looking *at least* $10.50

    Hi all!

    So I've done it!

I've been in the US for 3 weeks now and have been looking for work frantically.

Out if 50 applications online, filling all the profiling necessities, so far I have had only 3 replies...all negative.

You will understand that the move was expensive, and I really thought that job hunting would have been more responsive, and before I find myself empty pocketed, I need to anticipate the future. My wife (USC and primary sponsor) cannot work, and I don't want to rely on my secondary sponsor, so she has suggested something that may delay running out of our savings until something turns up, but I am not sure where we stand legally, hence my here question:

Can my wife, independently of me, claim some benefit, like food stamps, without affecting my residency status please?

Please be assured that I am not looking for an easy ride, I never have and never want to.

    Many thanks for your help!

  9. Hi!

I can tell you that her being French is no problem at all. I am the French beneficiary and my wife is a USC, and there was no issue whatsoever since I am here in the UK a permanent resident, which is what counts.

Like you, my wife and I do nothing unless we do it together, and so for the last 10 years. It was hard to be apart but so worth it!!!! We have been apart for 5 months now and Im finally going in 12 days 😁/. The DCF is definitely the fastest route. How long you'll be apart entirely depends on how you proceed. In our case, my USC wife cannot work, so co-sponsoring and intent to domicile was our challenge. She had nothing. I had nothing. No bank, no money, no home, no nothing.

If you can prove where you will live and have a co-sponsor, there's no reason you should ever be apart ever but by your mutual agreement. The only thing I see that would separate you is if you go ahead of her for work. Me, being the immigrant earning the money, I have to wait until i get there to find employment, but you is different.

this is great thank you!! for the i-864, it's all meant to be only our co-sponsor's information (in this case, my parents) - do they each need to fill out a form, or just have 1 of them fill out a form? do i just provide supplemental/duplicate page for the same information? for example, 2 copies of the first page so question 1 would be 1 page of my mom's info, 1 page of my dad's info?

    You're very welcome 😁

I "THINK" .... unless they share all resources, 1 has to fill the i864 and the other the i864a but it might be best to open a new thread to ask this specific question..... you'll get a more dedicated answer because im not too sure.... ☺

Just to confirm, before I book the medical and interview, we will need:

    - financial documents proving joint finances

    -lease info proving shared accommodation

    - police certificate

    - 3 passport photos

    - I-864 form signed in ink

    - medical and vaccination records

    anythung else?

6 pics actually. 2 for interview(US size) and 4 for medical (any size).

Here below is the pic of your required docs and here's the link of interview's required docs (on the multiple drop down menus):

The marriage certificate is a legal name change.  The married name should be used for the I-130 imo. Otherwise, her visa and, subsequently, the Green Card could be issued in her maiden name.  If I were the OP, I would use my married name for the I-130 and get a passport with my married name (or carry my marriage certificate as @Roel stated).

As @Roel said, you can use your married name on the I-130 while indicating your other names in the "AKA" fields.

    Thank you!

We changed my wife's name on her passport first to make sure things were kept simple and accurate and smooth and easy 😁

  13. Translation

Hello.I am new to the forum.I have a problem with my child's visa. My husband started my visa application when he had the green card but during the process we had a child and he also got his citizenship. So, when I wanted to start for my child, he did the F2a cathegorie and therefore did not mention in his letters that he had the nationality. it was after paying the affidat fees for both of us that he had an acknowledgment letter stating that he was waiting for him to realize that he should not be in this category. but rather in the category IR and when he mentioned that it was only my visa that was taken into account and there I already have an interview in sight but we asked that the child's one be taken from the beginning. My child is only 2 years old I can not travel without her. I specify that he is in the army. what are our chances for a quick treatment of my child's case?
