  1. IRAN amputated the right hand and left foot of five criminals convicted of armed robbery and hostage-taking, the student ISNA news agency reported today.

The amputation, a legally permissible but rarely used punishment in Iran, was carried out in the presence of doctors in the southeastern city of Zahedan, capital of the restive Sistan-Baluchestan province.

The men were found guilty of "acting against God" and "corruption upon this Earth" for taking part in the robberies and taking hostages.

The report did not say whether the punishment was carried out in prison or in public.

Amputations, which are allowed under Iran's Islamic sharia law, are only occasionally reported in Iran. The punishment being meted out to a group of criminals at a single time appears unprecedented in recent years.

The amputations come amid a campaign the authorities say is aimed at improving security in society which has led to an increasing number of executions in the Islamic republic, many of them in public.

  2. Dear All,

I did the medical exam yesterday in Hong Kong but the doctor didn't fill any vaccination sheet for me. And thus I double checked with the nurses and they told me that it's exempted for K1 visa.

I am a bit confused here, as I read in the VJ that, when I apply for AOS later, I may need to submit I-693A (AOS applicant's documentation of Immunization) or DS-3025 with a vaccination sheet....

So, shall I go back the clinic , request for a fotocopy of DS-3025 and request the doctor to fill up the vaccination sheet for me ?

    What are u guys/gals experience?

    * Besides, I hv to remind those beneficiaries in Hong Kong that, DO apply for a medical record/report earlier as it can take 1.5 months for the hospitals / their specialty clinics to prepare the materials. Since I went to the specialty clinic last year and I thought I didnt have to apply one....but eventually the panel doctor wanted me to get it ....... sigh.........so troublesome!!!

    Regards,

    Celia

  3. I am marrying my first cousin, who is from Brazil. Please no rude comments, it really isn't a big deal at all to marry your first cousin. In my state it's perfectly legal to marry your first cousin and my lawyer didn't mention anything as far as denial goes so I was just wondering...do any of you think that us being first cousins will be a reason for us to be denied? I really hope not.

    Thank you

How USCIS will know that she is your first cousin?

  4. I live in US since June 2004 and I applied for I_589 procedure in 2006, like a political refugee, but my case is still in immigration court hearing.

8 month ago I met somebody and we love each other so we decide that pretty soon we want to marry. How can I adjust my legal status after marriage? What do I have to do? I try to figure out by myself which forms I should filing up reading USCIS site but…I didn’t found the answer…

I need desperate HELP and any advice will be appreciated.

Thank you for taking your time to help me

I hope that the person you have met is US Citizen.

Is not clear on what stage you asylum case is. Have you been before the Immigration judge? If not

    You have to ASAP

    1.get married

2.file for AOS indicating your current status – pending asylum

You don’t need a lawyer for this.

Just an information for some of you who are reading this post

There are applications for asylum in USA from French, Spanish and German citizens.

  5. If the original intentions of the spouse, who has already been granted the "unconditional" Permanent Residence for 10 years, is immediately suspect upon arrival in the US, and within 2 1/2 weeks has gone to live somewhere else, how can she have her Visa removed: only if it is proven to have been fraudulently obtained from the beginning upon entering into a marriage, or by divorcing her, by a combination of these things, and/or by some other means? (We're talking about New Jersey here.)

She also does not state her present whereabouts or address. At this point, since she is not living with her spouse, can she lbe liable for not having reported an address change? What role does of Affidavit Support by the US-citizen husband play in all of this?

  7. By ABDULLAH SHIHRI, Associated Press Writer 18 minutes ago

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia - A gang-rape victim who was sentenced to six months in prison and 200 lashes for being alone with a man not related to her was pardoned by the Saudi king after the case sparked rare criticism from the United States, the kingdom's top ally.

Outrage over the sentence prompted unusually strong comments from President Bush, who said that if the same thing had happened to one of his daughters, he would be "angry" at a government that didn't protect the victim. The White House called the sentence "outrageous."

In past weeks, Saudi officials have bristled at the criticism of what they consider an internal affair — but also appeared wary of hurting their image in the United States.

Bush's National Security Council spokesman Gordon Johndroe said the White House thinks the Saudi king "he made the right decision" by pardoning the woman.

With the pardon, King Abdullah appeared to be aiming at relieving the pressure from the United States without being seen to criticize Saudi Arabia's conservative legal system, a stronghold of powerful clerics adhering to the strict Wahhabi interpretation of Islam.

Justice Minister Abdullah bin Mohammed al-Sheik said the pardon reported by Saudi media Monday does not mean the king doubted the country's judges, but that he was acting in the "interests of the people."

"The king always looks into alleviating the suffering of the citizens when he becomes sure that these verdicts will leave psychological effects on the convicted people, though he is convinced and sure that the verdicts were fair," al-Sheik said, according to the Al-Jazirah newspaper.

"Certainly, we're pleased that that action occurred," State Department deputy spokesman Tom Casey said. "I think everyone was rather astonished by the initial verdict and I hope this puts this case to rest. We're glad that this particular case has been dealt with and that the king has taken the actions that he has."

The victim — known only as the "Girl of Qatif" after her hometown in eastern Saudi Arabia — was in a car with a man in 2006 when they were attacked and raped by seven men.

She was initially sentenced in November 2006 to several months in prison and 90 lashes for being alone in a car with a man with whom she was neither related nor married, a violation of the kingdom's strict segregation of the sexes.

The woman, who was 19 at the time of the rape, has said she met the man to retrieve a picture of herself from him because she had recently married.

The seven men who were convicted of raping both the girl and the man were initially sentenced to jail terms from 10 months to five years. Their sentences were increased to between two and nine years after the appeal.

The case sparked increased international outcry recently after the court more than doubled the sentence last month to 200 lashes and six months prison in response to her appeal. Joining the U.S. criticism, Canada called the ruling barbaric.

Earlier this month, Bush expressed his anger over the sentencing.

"My first thoughts were these," Bush said. "What happens if this happens to my daughter? How would I react? And I would have been — I'd of been very emotional, of course. I'd have been angry at those who committed the crime. And I'd be angry at a state that didn't support the victim."

The controversy erupted as the United States was trying to ensure Saudi Arabia's participation in the November Mideast peace conference in Annapolis, Md. — which the kingdom attended.

In the U.S. ahead of the conference, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal was visibly irritated when he was asked about the case by journalists. He said that the storm being raised over it was outrageous, but also promised the sentence would be reviewed.

The kingdom's Justice Ministry has defended the sentence, saying the girl was having an illicit affair with the man.

Al-Sheik said Abdullah was the only official who could issue a pardon, and he did so despite the government's view that the Saudi legal system was "honest" and "fair."

"The king's order consolidates and confirms what is known about the Islamic courts," al-Sheik told Al-Jazirah. "Efficient judges look into different cases and issue their just verdicts and those convicted have the right to appeal."

Attempts to reach the woman's lawyer by telephone went unanswered Monday.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), an estimated 168,000 women and girls in the United States had either undergone Female genital cutting (FGC) or were at risk for FGC in 1990. Of these, 48,000 were girls younger than 18 years old

  9. Thanks for the responses, I was really getting frustrated!!

    Nazuspe, stop being frustrated! :)

Use the spredsheet Emo posted, make the list of the ones your wife needs as per her age. Then tell her to go to your family doctor and ask for a refferal to do a blood work do determine her immunity for the specific vaccines she should have. Once she gets her immunity confirmed by your family doc, your wife can go to a civil surgeon and ask them only to transcribe data on I-693A form.

I know I've read many people here say they paid CS only 10-15 bucks for that! Not for shots, but only filling out form.

I myself didn't do any of that, just submitted the copy I got at the medical in Sydney. I was never asked for more!

    Good luck!

    ausqueen

Even more. I told my fiancé then to bring the form I-693A to the doctor’s office in her home country after completing the medical exam. The physician transfer the vaccinations to the form and later we submit it to the AOS package.

    We didn’t receive RFE.

  10. We're now applying for AOS from a K1. I'm getting the same run around from the civil surgeons as everyone else does about needing another exam. My wife received some shots from the embassy approved doctor to get her k1 but now my question is: Does anyone know what shots are needed for AOS that are to be shown on the I-693A supplement sheet?

I called 2 civil surgeons yesterday and they both told me I needed different shots, not to mention that both said that we'd need another exam. So I'd like to know what shots are needed, so we can shop around and get them at the cheapest available place and then have that doc in Austin transfer them to the I-693A for $10.

  11. I searched on this forum for vaccination supplement information, and I see many people mentioning vaccination supplement being in a sealed envelope. But all I have is a piece of paper I received at a clinic when I had my medical exam for K-1 application in my coutry, and it is not in a sealed envelope. They just handed me one...

I gave the immigration officer at the port of entry a big sealed envelope that I received from the embassy after my interview, but you guys are not talking about this, right? (I did not get it back, of course).

Could anyone tell me if this is going to be an issue, please?

    Thank you

No problem just send it with the documents for AOS

  12. Greetings!

My husband really wants to visit his Mother in Turkey, this year, as she is not well..

Even though he has his "2 year" green card ...he is so afraid they will not let him back

in to the United States...They were so evil and rude to him when he first came here

on his K-1 Visa into Philly as soon as they saw he was from Turkey (a Muslim country) they

treated him like a criminal..(so much for the city of brotherly love!!) so he really paranoid!

We don't file for lifting of conditions until Feb 2008.

I will not be able to travel with him.

Anyone (from a Muslim country or otherwise) have any problems with coming back on their 2 year green card?

I would really appreciate hearing your experiences!!

    Thanks so much!

    Betty

Nothing to worry about. Return to JFK or Newark NJ

  13. I've spoken with lots of Russians on the phone that I've met online, Russian practice in exchange for English practice. Not once have I ever been asked about visas or travel to the US. That information is readily available in Russia, on the internet, in Russian.

Oh I've been asked about Visas. Usually it works like "I know this guy who can get me a Visa to visit you, I just need you to send me $500 to cover it." That will be followed closely by "I got the Visa, just need you to send $1,500 for the plane ticket. They have to be purchased here because the airline has to personally view my Visa." It's usually the same girl whose mother will die unless she receives $200 for an operation, and oh, she just lost her job at the factory and will lose her apartment and be kicked out on the street unless I send her $200. I think I've killed about 5 mothers and gotten 7 different girls kicked out of their apartment over the last couple of years. Also, I've left a couple of widows of deposed Nigerian Finance Ministers with absolutely no way to reclaim their $10 million in personal assets that she was going to give me a $2 million cut of, and all I had to do was give her a couple grand in "processing fees." I really am a heartless #######.

    Look at this one:)

  14. Ivelina_Andrew,

You will register with immigration when you arrive in the USA, it's the first thing you will do after getting off the airplane. The form I-94 that you will use will be distributed on the plane for you to fill out prior to landing.

    Yodrak

    Hello,

sorry for the dumb question but do I have to register with the police or immigration when i arrive in the US?

I am asking because the address I have given for my K1 visa needs changing and I do not know where I should do it...

Thanks a lot for any help

    Yodrak,

Thanks for the reply - do you htink that it would be a problem if my address on the I 94 is different than the one in my K1 papers stated as intended address to stay at?

There is no address on I 94

Don't forget to register in the "domovata kniga"

    HAha just kidding:)

  15. Well what happened to me, was that I ask my mother to send me my record of shots. And even they were in Spanish the doctors didn’t seem to matter!

I am sure you all ready have them, cause mainly they are shots that you take when you are a child. Even though, they made me take the tetanus one cause you have to take them every two years… if I remember well.

I hope this will help you ^_^

Wrong. you need to take Tetanus every 10 yaers

  16. :help: Hi! As I was reading through the medical examination that I will be undergoing soon... I was anxious about the vaccination requirements.

As i remember, way back in college days, our school gave us 2 shots of TT1 and TT2 but they haven't given the rest of it. But majority to their requirement, I haven't hd those yet. Should I start completing them all as soon as possible? Or it is not necessary to have those vaccines on me?

I'm kind of scared to having all those shots! OUCH! Lol! I hate needle to be honest. :crying:

  17. My fiance Fredy just recieved his packet 4 today from the Lima Embassy and I am wondering how everyone pulled off the "plane ticket drama"?

I want to be there for the interview but only like have a week and a half off work. So how can I plan it so I can come back on the same

flight as my fiance and not pay a ton of dinero? Do I have to buy him a round trip ticket like I am buying for myself now? How has everyone else done this?

Did you guys buy round trip tickets for your fiance (s) ? Any advice will be greatly appreciated. :star: [/b]

I didn't go for my fiance interview and I bought her round trip ticket it was cheaper than one way.

  18. As I sit here in my office thinking and maybe you may help me out here.

Why in the heck does the vaccination report need to be transfered to another form?? Isn't the Dr. in Colmbia report valid enough? Heck, the US govt appointed only 2 Doctors that can give the medical exams in Colombia. Am I missing something here?

    Let my tantrum continue.

Isn't obvious that we will be adjusting status?? I'm pretty sure that 99.999% of K1/K3 visa holders adjust their status at one point or another. Is this another attempt to milk my pocket book?

You can avoid milking your pocket book.

Ask the doctor in Colombia to fill and sign this form and send it later with your AOS forms.

    It worked for me

    Good luck

  19. Good Morning, I have a question about the relative potition (I-130) I'm from Germany and came to US on Visa Vaiwer (I-94) which is already expired. In the meantime I got marry to a permanent resident. I heard that my husband can apply for the “petiton for alien relative” for me. My question is: if the potiotion will be denied for any reason, can they deport me then?

I heard if you came on a visitor visa and got married spontaniously without knowing in advance about the event your husband would be able to file for AOS / ED/ I 130 , and you would be able to stay in the states while the application is in process ,,( but if you knew in advance and told the immigration of a intend to marriage in the near future and got married while being on a visitor visa , that would be concidert visa fraud and you could face deportation ) as to how far that is true or how it works with permanent residence status I have no idea maybe someone can help you if its true or not Lona

See, I came to US in 2005 only for a visit (then my Boyfriend). Then we decited that we gonna married (someday) but first we wanted to spend some time with each other to see if the relationship gonna work. However, we got married this year and he wants to apply the I-130 for me but I'm affraid that they gonna deport me if something gonna go wrong.

Than wait until your husband become citizen.

  20. Should I wait till he becomes a Citizen and then apply for the petition or Green card? Is the any other way to get my papers started now?

File your I-130 now (before July 30 to save some $) .

Call / search USCIS to find out if you can file now also I-485 AOS together with I-130.

When your husband become citizen send letter to USCIS to notify them.
