don't you just hate it when people label with no foundation, draw conclusions on others without knowing them and dismiss what they write because it's them who wrote it without considering the substance within the post?

Ivanovo reacted to tmma in What's with all this sex talk?
Maybe I am an old fashioned person...I don't know, but I cringe alittle when I see married people openly over- the- top flirting and disclosing stuff about themselves on here. I mean it's open to the whole world. Why do some people think the rest of he world is even interested in wether you get some or if you are wearing thongs or not? Who cares? Most of those that do this are [nearly] middle aged and married. Save it for your spouse....Or at least leave something to the imagination.....jeez.
It's classless and icky to even have that advertised about yourself....ugh.
Go on call me a prude......That's OK that you think that.....No need for me to even try and state otherwise because I am not advertising myself.

I agree you. You aren't old-fashioned. You're perfectly fine for not giving into this stupid make-everything-about sex culture. These hypersexual morons even make foodstuff into object of sex. And if you ever point it out, they question your sexuality, your virility, etc. When one questions your sexuality, the others sort of gather around him or her and form a horde. You can see that again and again here on the board. If one person, post something about what catalyzed a person to critcise sex obsession, his other minions will scream and holler in support. You aren't a prude. You're more civilised about this than these children are.

I don't suffer from reading comprehension failure. I didn't read the threads in question because I have no desire to read about people's sexual prefences, opinions, underwear or whatever like that.
I find it unusual that someone as well educated as you seem to be, Cleo, fails to get my point. Hope I clarified for you. let me know if I need to simplify futher.
PS .There have been lots more threads than simply the threads you have been engaged in. Just so you know. It's not all about you.

Ivanovo reacted to tmma in Montel Williams: I'll Use Pot Until The Day I Drop Dead
I really take exception to your comment about spiking MS cases.......because there is there's also alot of cancer going around, alot of folks in chronic pain going around, alot of deserving people who need relief from the insipid nerve pain that does not respond to conventional pain killers and their alternative is opiate/narcotic pain killers going around........
There is a very good case for legalizing it, based on the pain suffered by people who have done nothing wrong other than have a progressive disease that causes unrelenting chronic pain. But the laws are dictated to accomodate the lowest common denominator of society.......the folks that find a way to abuse.......

Ivanovo reacted to tmma in Montel Williams: I'll Use Pot Until The Day I Drop Dead
Legalize it especially for medical use.
Montel Williams has MS. This is a devastating disease and cannabis has been proven effective for treating the pain that comes with MS and certain cancers and many other diseases. I REALLY take exception to whomever made light of this by saying he is a crack head or that many ppl will feign MS or whatever to get hold of medical weed. 1. Feigning cancer or MS is almost impossible as the diagnisis is made through imaging, etc...2. Medical grade weed is different to street weed.
Unless you have suffered the constant unrelenting pain of cancer/MS or alot of other diseases...honestly YOU DON'T KNOW! I have. I am not a drug addict, crackhead or anything, but if eating a cosmic brownie or smoking a joint to relieve the pain I have , I would do it.....Only medical use of weed is not legal in TX.......
More power to Montel, is what I say. I'm not even a fan of his but he is totally a role model for those of us with progressive MS! Yes, on top of the injuries sustained in the military, I have SPMS..... I don't mention it much because that's not what defines me...but......it's worth mentioning because I KNOW the constant nerve pain that's relieved by cannabis. It's strange to me how ready they are to prescribe me narcotics and not letting me have cannabis.
Explain that to me. yet again those in genuine need for something are prevented from getting it due to scum who abuse. Pfft....
I love Texas, I really do, but they should allow folks like me medical cannabis!

Ivanovo reacted to tmma in Montel Williams: I'll Use Pot Until The Day I Drop Dead
I don't believe I have ever said anything about not controlling the use of prescription cannabis. Of course make strict parameters for use by patients based on medical finding of their condition. Limit prescribing to select doctors in select specialities.... Just like the use of prescription narcotic painkillers. There will always be those that circumvent the system ( like as what happens now with prescription painkillers) but to deny those in need what can relieve the nerve pain without the unwanted side effects of narcotic use is wrong. To be blunt, ppl in my position have the choice of taking nothing at all-or becoming a narcotic painkiller addict........
Also i don't see where I misinterpreted what you said before. But I am not arguing with you, merely giving a POV from someone with a progressive, painful disease that's not cureable and is restricted from non addictive relief because of the terminally stupid.

I know I will take flak for this but I don't give rats #### about what MJ did or others of his ilk do. Hell, you can go to Hwy80 here and pick up a demerol or 2 off the street......If morons want to abuse.....that's them. I just resent only having addictive narcotic painkillers (that I choose to not take because of the nature of the drug) because some idiots are terminally STUPID. Let em doom themselves, because the needs of those genuinely in need take priority IMO.

'YOU' 'don't think the trade off is worth it'?
YOU don't think........That's right....YOU DON'T THINK, Sir!
Ever had a loved one with MS, terminal cancer or other such diseases that cause pain of such a manner that narcotics in alot of States is the only way to deal with it? Narcotics that not only make you an addict but render you pretty much unable to function.
Ever watched an MS patient become crippled with the pain? Go to the chemo ward and see how many folks are in pain with cancer and MS, vomiting because they cannot keep food down and losing frightening amounts of weight. Deny those people relief because the 'trade off' isn't worth it....go on.
How dare you state the 'tradeoff' is NOT WORTH THE RISK!!!!
Come and say that when YOU are in chronic debilitating pain & suffering the nausea of chemo [sometimes I am on chemo for MS]. See how you feel about the tradeoff then.

The USA has 300+million living in it. I put it to you that if you think 'Exceptionalism and Nationalism' is 'the norm', maybe you are basing your assumptions and stereotypes on the people you are associating with; and painting everyone else here with the same brush......?
I am wondering why you even want to live here. You have identified the worst this country has and applied it to all; you've complained that Americans are too proud/too stupid/ too insulated; and you give the impression that your observations and conclusions about where you are are a source of unhappiness to you.
People who just openly admit that they prefer one place over another actually get my respect. Why? Because they don't blame anything or anyone else for their preference ( Homesick American was tactless in her wanting to be back in the USA whilst in England, but at least she was honest. ' I just want to go back to the US').
It's also rather amusing that you target France as some sort of unNationalistic unExceptionalist Utopia should you find yourself unwilling or unable or unwhatever it is to commit to either the USA or the UK. Viva La France and have a glance at some French history.
In the meantime, do please stop painting us all with the substandard, uneducated, unworldly paintbrush you have come to know and dislike so much.

Ivanovo reacted to tmma in I stood Straighter
So today I was at Walmart.
There was a group outside from the VFW distributing poppies. I immediatly went over there to donate and get one when I noticed that the youngish veteran behind the makeshift desk was wearing a 'Jake the Snake' t-shirt exactly like the one I earned in Bosnia from the 82nd Airborne ( for completing their gruelling PT challenge) anyway, I mentioned this to the veteran and we began talking....War stories and comparing deployments (like veterans do, sometimes).
Anyway, as we were swapping Jake stories & war stories, he stood to shake my hand. Straight and proud. 'Thank you for your service' he said..... looking me straight in the eyes and took my hand in both his. I was humbled and looked alittle downward like I tend to do when I am overwhelmed or blush ---that's when I saw he had a prothsetic leg. He had returned from Iraq-Germany-WRMC then back to Texas only months ago.
'Stand straight and tall' he said 'don't let them win by lowering your head.....I won't'
I stood straighter.

Ivanovo reacted to tmma in Ummm, maybe another stupid question!
Oh good God...! I have read this entire thing.....
few things to say. At first I felt kind of sorry for 'Melissa' ; but she is an adult. She is petitioning a fiance and making plans to marry......she doesn't 'sound' like an imbecile...She picked him. She loves him, even if to some of us he seems to type like a selfish, pretentious, chinless wonder. She loves him. All this drama reads like a bad paperback novel.....
And I am wondering why she has not closed the thread. I would have...but then there is a large part of me that does not like that kind of drama or attention. People are all different. Eh, she's a big girl. She picked him.
Good Luck to both of them...I say- because ( and I do not intend to be horrid with this), their continuing this in public when they can have it shut down like yesterday....IMO is a small indication that she likes the attention her posts/blog is attracting and he likes sparring with VJ'ers because he appears to think he is intellectually superior. I think you have all been played to an extent, but that's only my opinion.

Ivanovo reacted to tmma in Ummm, maybe another stupid question!
Melissa,
Your fiance has asked people numerous times on this thread to 'stop judging/& remove yourself from my relationship'....etc etc. Clearly this thread has not only got his undies somewhat knotted, but caused futher discord. Discord that I point out, you brought in by writing about it in the first place then throwing it open for THE WORLD to read..
Why write all about it on a public forum? There's a comment box in your blog, a reply button on here inviting responses. What type of responses were you honestly expecting?
In your blog ( which I read part of) your fiance says that "'picnicing with another guy as a friend 'looks bad'" and 'what on Earth will people think....' Obviously he is bothered by what people 'think'....So in my opinion to post on the internet for literally millions of people to see and read most intimate details is only going to inspire this kind of drama and reaction.
Drama and reaction in this case you started and are failing to put an end to.
I am talking to you as an adult. I do not know you or him. My intention is NOT to 'hurt', it really is not. Am I sympathetic...no, not really. I make no apologies for that. I'm not sympathetic because you are both adults capeable of controlling not only yourselves, but how much/what type of information you throw to the world to comment on.
I do wish you both the best. Sincerely.
