I did not start this thread to slag off the US. I was slagging off being told that I can not express an opinion and to be quiet.

My knees are quite sweet and sexy but they're going to be scuffed up with all the grovelling one has to do round here.

There are another reason:-

Because Americans hate to come second, you'll play a game no other country plays and then call a competition a World Series!! when only one other country plays it. The Football (soccer for you USers) World Cup is competed in by nearly every country on the globe. You'd hate to be defeated by a smaller insignificant country, France for example!! You could not take it. Americams hate to lose. The rest of the world understands the feeling of believing in victory then the downer of defeat. America may declare war on a country they lost to, in a knee jerk reaction of revenge and misunderstanding.

Another reason is the lack of protective clothing. If the wearing of a fancy crash-hat or shoulder padding was included I think America may enjoy it more. There seems to be a fixation with adornment in US sports!!

The offside rule is quite complicated too.

I know all Americans don't carry guns or chew tobacco or vote republician . Some will even listen to some criticism of their culture or government, as I will of mine, by anyone. I'm not trying to change the world or your country . It just surprises me that the some VJers on this board, who after all should have a wider world view than most of America, really are the closed eyed, small-minded, insular, star an' stripes waving, frightened children I stereotypically joked they were .

Seriously though - is it ESSENTIAL that someone 'love' their country?

I'd say no there are many things I hate about Britain:- Jingoists, Racists, The Monarchy, Blairs Warring and Untruths, the running down of Public Transport, The Alienation of Youth, the kissing of USA #######. ..................

You, godsavethequeen, are NOT allowed to express yourself freely in the US since YOU are not a US citizen, and therefore are NOT protected under the Bill Of Rights. The Bill Of Rights only protect the Citizens of THESE United States who have sworn allegiance to protect and uphold the laws of this great nation. Only when and if you become a naturalized citizen, will these rights pertain to you. Until then… Deal with it!

Yes if you defend yourself with extreme force, a Gun, knife, stick or your bearhands and kill or even maim that is considered a crime in British law. You can restrain!! Whatever that means. If someone breaks in a house and robs you, yes it is wrong but to shoot the robber with a gun when the robber is unarmed in the UK is murder. People "defending" themselves have gone to prison for it.

So you're trying to say someone stealing to feed themselves deserve killing ....err sorry you were defending your property and it is a US right to bear arms and defend what is yours. Sounds wrong to me.

The knife culture is not something to be proud of. I was trying to give you facts with slight sarcasm, but I forget that it is lost on most of you.

Are invaders, thiefs, house breakers really running rampage over the US that the population need to own 12 Guns each. Surely you can only shoot 2 x 6 shooters at a time?? and think of the children and family members caught in your cross-fire. ...but that must be a hazard in defending ones property in a civilised society.

I think, if we are discreet and subtle enough, we can actually participate in conversations about democracy, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the American Revolution - and perhaps in the process, remind those US citizens of the rights and freedoms they are so busily giving up right now to their Republican Government. Some of them may even wake up and remember what they are supposed to be celebrating on Independence Day.

upon entry in the usa, you have to take a mandatory course at the firing range. failure to hit the target 15 out of 20 times is cause for being deported

I have shot a rifle at some bottles on my last visit to the US to meet my wifes Family. Two shots two hits. That's a good start ehh?? Mind you I did notice it was the 6 year old daughters rifle a little later!!!
