  1. my previous relationship K1 didn't work for some reason known to me (long story)

I left the U.S before my I-94 expires.I am in my home country now

I am now in my home country and I met a lady wh agree to marry me and come to nigeria

    for a visit soon

Has any one in this forum recieve administrative review because of age difference?Need your sincere answers.

Can age difference pose a problem in the next process.she is older than me we some years?

    please I need your advice.

she is 43yrs and I am 33yrs, she has two children but never marry before or file for spouse before

Can this pose a red flag, Is the gap so much for marriage?

Is there any immigration law that can pose a hindrance to this process for age difference?

Please need your valuable suggestion please.

I appreciate your answers in advance.

thanx all.I wish all of you the best of luck.

    Hi valentine,

Sorry your relationship didn't out. I don't know much about filing a new k-1 visa. It might look suspicious to immigration that you just left the country and already filing another one. By the way, what's your phone number in Nigeria? I'm on my way to Nigeria and i will like to give you a call when i get to Nigeria if you are really in Nigeria.

  2. hello everyone, i have been schedule for k3 visa interview oct 4th in lagos. could anyone tell me if i have a better chance with joint sponsor. all other documents are intact.

Please fill in your timeline and when you picked up the visa. Lagos accepts co-sponsor but it depends on how much you make on your w-2 form. You can see examples of succesfull co-sponsor on this board. Congratulations.

  4. Dear members of this form , i am a nigerian lady who is going through a lot of emotional pain right now, one of my friends just gave me this website today and told me ,there are people here that can tell me what to do..i am so so confused at the moment....THIS IS MY STORY SO FAR

I am a nigerian by birth but i moved to the united states like 20 years ago,i am currently a united states citizen ,i was previously married but got divorced like 10 years ago,i have a 13 year old daughter,Two years ago, i went home tof xmas and met this nice and good man and it was love i first site,i ended up staying at home for like 3 months,i initially planned on staying for 3 weeks,i just did not wnt to leave but the reality of the economic situation in the country hit me ,within those three months ,we were engaged and got married .

i came back here and found an attorney who prepared our paper work, evrything went well until the interview in nigeria,I DID NOT KNOW THE EMBASSY WILL BE ASKING SO MANY QUESTIONS ABOUT MY PERSONAL LIFE,They asked my husband so many things and he was honest by telling them he did not know, they thought due to this that he was not convincing and the marriage was a shame. All this were partly but fault,i never knew bring him here was going to be this hard. Our petition was Denied and we were told that our case has been sent back to the united states ,I again contacted my lawyer and she said we have to wait for the case to be transfered here, I have been waiting all this months for the case but nothing has been heard,

I get depressed everyday and dont look forward to waking up,Last week ,my lawyer called me that she can not handle the case again that she has a family emergeny to deal with , what do i do,i have all my hope on her because i thought she knew better,i met someone today who told me to paste my story here and God will send people to hepl me out on my plight, someone even suggested that i file a new petion again and this time we should be better prepared

HELP ME GOOD PEOPLE OF GOD,

    A distressed soul

    IFFY

    Hi,

Your situation is very common. especially on this website. You will get more help on this site than any lawyer can provide. First of all, Call USCIS and find out the status of your case and see if your case has been sent back here (USA). If so, You will need to re-apply and it shouldn't be long this time since you have been approved before. Once you get an approval here make sure that you and your husband provide enough evidence for the embassy. And please make sure he knows enough about you, i mean your job, income, address e.t.c. And by the way did the embassy gave you a 122(g) stating why they refused your visa?? In a case like this, USCIS will usually re-approve your case provided you give them all the evidence you provided on the first approval. Please don't be depessed and get ready for a fight with the embassy. Involve your congressman if need be. Goodluck and God bless !!

  5. Newbie here, just wanted to say hello. I haven't began the K-1 process yet but will soon, and will update my timeline when it all starts. I've been lurking on the forum for nearly a week now, and I thought it was silly to just read and not thank you all for the information I've received so far. Amazing that a week ago I was just in love and had never heard of a K-1. To all of you who are already in the process and are anxiously awaiting your SO I wish you the best of luck. As I said before, I am just now beginning the process, and this site has been a great comfort to me to know I'm not alone in this journey.

I will try to post and add to conversations whenever I have something somewhat helpful, but since I'm pretty new it will be a while before I get ramped up.

Best of luck to you all!

Welcome, You have made a right choice by finding this site. It's better than any lawyer. Goodluck !!!

  6. My fiance got her visa today 09/08/2006, it was faster than I expected. all come together in less than 6 months. Lagos is getting better.

Thanks to everyone for all your supports. I wish the same luck will shine on you all.

If you are in Los Angeles area, I will get you posted for the upcoming wedding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations !!! Please give us the details of how it went. It will help a whole lot. Thanks!!!:dance:

  7. This won't help the already hihg suspicion levels of the officials at the Accra embassy, no doubt:

Ghanaians Arrested For Sham Marriages (news item from GhanaWeb/AP)

Another obstacle.... It feels so weird to be prepared to convince people we aren't pretending to be in love and intend to be partners. Not a normal issue to deal with in a relationship. I'm here now with my fiance and feel like I should be recording every minute (well, not every minute!).

    *Sigh*

Why do these bastards do these things?? They make it hard for everybody who are legit. I hate the things some of our people do sometimes !!

  8. Hi all,

I'm a Nigerian by birth but i haven't had Nigerian passport since i was very young and i have lost it now. I'm going to Nigeria in october but i have not bought my ticket yet. I'm buying it in 2 weeks. I was wondering if i apply for a visa now, they might deny me 'cause i don't have my ticket yet. I recieved a visa in December but i had a ticket then. Does anybody have information concerning this ?? Please help. I don't wanna wait until 2 weeks to apply for the visa it might be too late !

  9. The Washington office is now offering expedited service. There is an extra fee($80-$100?) I this and you will have to pay for Fed Ex or what ever courier service you use. You will have to be persistent with them. I had a MAJOR run in with them when I was getting my son's visa issued and ended up missing the flight over to Lagos. Now they Also have consulate offices in Atlanta and New York and I was told that the New York office is very fast.

Congratulations and God Bless you both with success

Yeah, they are butts in that DC office. I almost missed my flight in January due to their stupidity. I got it a day prior to my flight. The problem is not getting the visa, the problem is for someone to be smart enough and FEDEX it. Open an account with FEDEX for $10 and make sure that you send a return self addressed FEDEX envelope with your visa application and also include your FEDEX account number on that return FEDEX envelope.FEDEX will pick it up and charge your account later on.I think you have plenty of time if you do it now. But keep up with it and call them if you think is getting close. Good luck!!!

  10. My wait is still short compared to many, But I'm wanting feedback from VJ's who contacted their local REP's/Senators for a helpful push.

Should a petitioner contact CSC first? I heard they no longer accept calls.

My Senator used to be the mayor of St. Paul, MN which I work for. He may not remember me but I started working for the City in 2000. I had performed many computer miracles for the Mayors Dept. and his own PC. I've been the Cities SYS Admin and Project Manger since being promoted, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to throw out a "Do you remeber when you PC died"? or would it?

So how long before NOA1 before a call to the local politician should be made? Email? I heard Email is never responded to.

    Thanks for all response B)

    Hi,

I know how you feel. You might wanna wait for a month or so b/4 calling for help. Our case only took 66 days for approval. I think if you did everything that USCIS ask for it won't be long. I don't think getting your senator involve so early can do you any good. They will probably tell him to wait too, it's too early. Get use to the waiting game and enjoy the stupidity of immigration !!

  11. As much as we want to believe that NVC is all good, they are getting bogged down big time.

Who knows, they must have huge stacks of petitions by now.

I have only waited 11 days and don't expect much for a while.

I am curious who is waiting for "NVC receipt" and how long ago USCIS approved your petition?

The information may offer some insight into further waiting.

I was approved on July 31, 2006 And my case was at NVC by 08-04-06 and recieved by the embassy by 08-11-06. So i guess it all depends on luck when you deal with these people. Goodluck.

  12. Ok another interesting cultural difference, an amusing one, is that my husband isn't used to doing physical labor. His family has a house maid who cooks and cleans for the family. I think this is typical in many African countries.

One night I was cleaning the carpet and was on my hands and knees scrubbing out stains. I was working up quite a sweat. He later told me, "We gotta get a housemaid." H said that maybe we could even send for relative from ethiopia to live with us because he didn't realize that americans worked so hard in their houses. He thought everyone had a house maid just like in Africa.

What's funny is that whenever I feel that Sultan's being demanding about me cooking or something I tell him, "What? Do you think I'm your housemaid?" And he even says the same thing to me if I'm bossing him around.

Please forgive me if i'm being rude or nosy. But how old is sultan?? I come from a wealthy african family with housemaids and many workers but i also know that when is time to handle my business, i take care of business. There is a fine line between culture and Laziness. A young family requires a lot of give and take. Your husband needs to realize that he is no longer in an African setting any longer and face the reality.

  13. Its so great to read all of the posts. I'm encouraged to continue just taking things one day at a time.

Our main problem is communication. The way he speaks to me as translated in his language tends to rub me the wrong way. It always comes across as being WAY more demanding than he intends. Also, when he starts a conversation i find myself feeling more confused by what he's saying. For example, he'll watch me make and drink tea and will ask, "are you drinking tea?" I'll get confused/frustrated and say, "you just watched me make the tea. Why are you asking me if I'm drinking tea?" And that, of course, starts an arguement bc I've hurt his feelings.

Thanks, for all the support. I love hearing these stories. :)

    Hi,

Once again i think you are doing good. And i also think you guys are fighting over petty things. I can't help but laugh so hard as i'm typing this. Please be patient and learn about his culture and teach yours and things will be a lot easier. If he asks silly questions, Answer with silly but loving attitude and he will learn slowly to sharpen that silliness up next time around. Please be patient and display love.

  14. Yeah atleast you got one thing right, Blonds aren't that smart !!!. But your situation is not that bad. Call the embassy and let them know what happened and they will take care of you. Goodluck !!!

You really do like to insult, don't you? Hopefully you were only joking, but you should know that not everyone understands this brand of humor.

Oh, btw, Blonds is spelled Blondes.

You must be a blond, huh. Sorry for the mispell words. I'm mechanical Engineer not an English professor !!!

  15. Hi all. I don't post much but I can't think of another forum where I might get some support/advice.

My husband's been in the US for two months and I'm having a REALLY hard time helping him adjust. Before he came here I thought it would be fun to see the world from his perspective (and sometimes it is). But I feel like a bad wife because I constantly question if this was the right decision. He's a nice person and he's very loving but..........I don't always have the energy or patience to explain things or to go the extra mile to take care of him. I've read that it takes five years for people to transition to life in the US. Honestly, that sounds like a very very long time.

Am I the only one feeling this way? How have others dealth their or their SO's transition?

    :hehe:

    S

    Hi,

You are doing very good, atleast you are have the sentivity to know how he feels. But please don't rush things, give him time and i guarantee you he will be watching Monday night football on the regular. These things tales time and encouragements. Guide him and let him know that you are only helping to make things easier, everybody as had to go thru these steps before it became easier. Please don't give up, every steps get you closer to your goal !!! Goodluck. Also, You can get him a cable TV pending the time he gets a job.

It depends on who is transitioning, It could take months or years. It depends on individuals and how fast they are willing to learn new things. BUT A BIRD IN HAND IS BETTER THAN A MILLION IN THE BUSH !!!

  16. you need to go back to the embassy and get it re-sealed.... others have done this so dont worry... just explain you opened it in error....

    Good Luck

    Kezzie

Oh, Kezzie, thank you for those words...!

I was so destroyed yesterday when I noticed what I had done... Such an anti-climax... I called to my love one in the US, and cried in the phone... and then I felt even more stupid because he was by that moment at his friends house and couldnt do much more than laugh.

I really do feel like a stupid blonde.... "oh, an envelope! lets open it!!" duhh...

Well, really I do hope that it is not such a big thing, and that they can easily reseal it.

I'll let you know what happens............. tomorrow I'll call the embassy, and swallow a bit part of my pride Ive had for a while....

Yeah atleast you got one thing right, Blonds aren't that smart !!!. But your situation is not that bad. Call the embassy and let them know what happened and they will take care of you. Goodluck !!!

  17. Hey folks...

I guess this call is primarily for any Nigerian K1 Visa applicant/beneficiary. Abeg i need be`er expo on the contents of the package that are usually sent out by the Lagos Embassy. I am simply trying to stay a couple of steps ahead of the process as that proactive strategy, in my opinion, is probably the best way to shorten the process from my end...

Have to do all i can within my power to decrease the long process and i think getting way ahead of the package contents is one sure way to this. So kindly state the contents of the package you received. I know they do not differ remarkedly from the general contents stated on the NVC website but it sure will be nice to know there will be no surprises............so eyin people, whaddyasay??? should i throw down more pidgin to validate my Naija roots before you all pour out some info........................and loveeeeeeeeeee????

Oh by the way, any person knowledgeable about Lagos embassy package contents is most certainly welcome to contribute info.

    Thanks, y`all

You can better advice if you post your question on the African forum.

  18. I think the way you package and present your application determines how fast you recieve you NOA2. Plus any other evidences. These guys at USCIS are kinda lazy, so if your application is muddled up and messy expect these government workers to throw your application to the back of the line. That's another long wait just because some government worker is having a bad day and does not want to use their initiative to sort things out.

  19. We got our NOA1 on July 31. And our NOA2 on August 23. That's only 23 days! I never thought it would be so fast. I figured we'd be waiting 3 months or more.

For all those people worried about the lack of activity for their cases....We never even got a touch. No touches, no RFE's, nothing. So don't worry about touches. They don't mean that much. One day I was about to leave for work. I thought I'd check my cases status before I went, hoping for some kind of change, anything at all. And there it was, simple, surprising..."This case has been approved."

To all those who are still waiting...good luck, have patience, and stay positive.

Congratulations !!! I think the way you package and present your application determines how fast you recieve you NOA2. These guys at USCIS are kinda lazy, so if your application is muddled up and messy expect these government workers to throw your application to the back of the line. That's another long wait just because some government worker is having a bad day and does not want to use their initiative to sort things out.

  20. I made these charts to send to my elected officials. But it put things in perspective for me so well I thought I would share them. These are jpg screen shots of the charts. If anyone wants the original .doc files PM me with your email and I will send them. You will need MS Word to look at the original doc files. Wordpad makes them look jumbled.

I filtered the list to show only K-1 petitions submitted to or transferred to the CSC with dates starting March 6 (the day IMBRA went into effect and everything seemed to fall apart) to the last petition approved for a June NOA1 date. It is sorted by NOA1 dates from earliest to latest. I also included the total number of days it took for approved petitions. Here is the breakdown of the approved vs waiting petitons. As you can see it is pretty close to random.

    March:..........81 total petitions...........47 approved...........34 waiting

    April:............60 total petitions...........37 approved...........23 waiting

    May:.............62 total petitions...........32 approved...........30 waiting

    June:............26 total petitions...........13 approved...........13 waiting

You need to download the pictures to your computer and view them at 100% or you can't read them. Just clicking on the link gives me a crappy view in a browser. For those less computer savy here is how you do it.

Right click on the link, choose "save Target as" and pick a spot on your computer to save. Then open with your favorite picture viewer! If things look blurry make sure you are viewing at 100%.

I would have posted the pictures in a post but they take up a lot of real estate. So here are the links.

    Enjoy!!

Good luck Gary C, but i'm not in your chart. I hope you get approved soon. We are praying for you !!
