The operator gave you stunningly incorrect information. When your extension letter expires, you are still in-status, and still have authority to work.

When the offices re-open, by all-means make an appointment to get an I-551 stamp, as you'll need this to re-enter the country if you leave, or to prove status to a new employer, but you really don't need to panic about this in the mean-time.

Thank you very much! I was just shocked when he told me that, we live in South TX and there are border patrol agents and check points between Corpus Christ and Laredo and we did get pulled over at the check point and they asked if I have proper documentation which they saw it. My nearest office is in Laredo and when the agent told me that it really made me nervous.

  2. Ladies and gentlemen I just called USCIS since my extention letter expires in a month as they said to my previous calls. First time I called they said call 1 month before the letter expires, today I did call and they told me to call again when their offices are open, I asked what if they dont the spokesmen said * Once your letter expires dont leave the house* and I asked what if I am working? His response was * quit the job the day your letter expires and dont leave the house*

I am in shock because now what do I do? And not just me but many more like me? What does this mean for our statuses in future? Is this going to affect us all?

Hey everyone, my I-797 notice of action letter which extends the validity of my green card for 18 months from valid date is less than a month away from expiring. Anyone else here on the same boat? Should I call USCIS to check on the I-751 status?

We called a month ago and they said if we don't get anything from them by the time our 18 months extension letter expires, they will schedule an appointment week before expiration date for passport stamp if the passport is still valid, but we will apply for N 400 soon. Call them just in case

My wife had the combined N-400 and i-751 interview today. We arrived at 7:45 for 8 am interview, but weren't called in until about 9:20AM. I went in with her, and the officer said there will be two of them with one there just for observation. They had both the files with them.

The second officer started with the i-751 interview and checked her birth certificate and our marriage certificate in addition to the green card/passport etc. She told us that she'll ask questions and if she directs them to one of us, the other person should not respond. Here are some questions she asked -

    1. (To me, the petitioner): Wife's full name and maiden name and the date and place of birth
    2. (To wife): My full name and date of birth
    3. (To wife) When and where did we meet? (We met in India while I was visiting family)
    4. (To wife) What happened after that?
    5. (To me) Was I on a vacation? Was I already a US citizen at that point, and why did I go there
    6. How did we keep in touch after I came back to the US?
    7. How often did we see each other between the first time and until she immigrated to the US
    8. Details of each trip
    9. (To wife) When did we meet on my second trip - wife replied it was right before we were getting married, we went to buy our rings
    10. (To me) What does my wife's ring look like - and then she asked my wife to show the ring to her
    11. How come we got married so quickly (about 6 weeks from us meeting to me proposing her, and then the wedding was about 1.5 months after that)
    12. (To wife) How many people were at the wedding?
    13. (To us) Why are there no pictures in our file (We submitted a lot of pics with our i-751, but they were almost all following her immigration since we didn't think marriage pics would be necessary anymore) - wife offered to show the pics on her phone, she said she'll check them later
    14. (To wife) How many days were the wedding events (since Indian weddings have many events over a few days)
    15. (To me) What is our address, phone number
    16. Have we ever lived at any other address?
    17.  (To me) Why did I wait two years to put my wife on the home deed? - I said just getting a trust company to do the paperwork took time. She said it wasn't a good excuse. I explained that California being a community property state, I didn't think it mattered that much. NOTE: we had submitted home deed transfer copy with i-751 docs, so they were prepared to ask this question beforehand.
    18. Asked if we had traveled since our i-751 application in 2018 and asked to see itineraries, which we had brought.
    19. Asked for our 2018 tax return.

The questions were quite intense but I think we answered everything satisfactorily. At this point, the officer conducting i-751 interview told me that they'll continue my wife's interview and move on to the naturalization interview and I didn't need to be present for that so she escorted me out, telling me it might take another 30-45 minutes.

My wife came out about 20 minutes after that. She was asked a couple more questions, such as if we both have personal bank account (in addition to the joint statements we submitted) and how is the joint bank account money spent. My wife showed pictures from our wedding events on her phone (Q13 above), specifically ones showing many guests. She also made copies of our bank joint account statement, travel itineraries in the last year, and took some other pics we had brought with us from recent trips. All this while the other officer was interviewing her for naturalization.

    Naturalization interview questions -

    1. Name the US war between the North and the South
    2. What are the first 10 amendments called?
    3. Name of the speaker of the house
    4. Who makes federal laws
    5. What are the two major political parties
    6. Name of the president

For the English test, she had to read "Who can vote" and write (on the tablet) "Citizens can vote".

She was approved for N-400 but it's pending i-751 approval. They didn't say anything about the status, just said they will send the update. If the i-751 petition is approved, she won't receive a new green card and instead will take the oath directly. Fingers crossed all went OK!

Thank you Sir for the update. We filled N 400 too so we will see how it turns. Good luck

Hi all, we received notice that our case was transferred on 5/31. We have a WAC case number. Just waiting for the notice to tell us where it was sent.

Can anyone tell me what "WAC" stands for? Good luck to the rest of you!

These receipt numbers start with three letters and follow by a series of numbers, for example EAC-06-123-45678.  Here is how to understand what the numbers mean.

The first three letters indicate the USCIS service center which is processing the petition, as follows:
    – EAC – Vermont Service Center;
    – WAC – California Service Center;
    – LIN – Nebraska Service Center; and
    – SRC – Texas Service Center.

The next two digits represent the fiscal year in which USCIS received the petition.  In the example above, “06″ means that the petition was received by USCIS during Fiscal Year 2006.  The next three digits represent the computer workday on which the receipt was processed and the fee was taken.  Finally, the last five digits are used to identify uniquely the petition filed.

Just got my biometrics appointment. It is scheduled on June 12tt. The notice date is 05/24. The stamp on the envelope shows 05/29 and I recevied it today. My case is in Nebraska office (orignally there)! Yay some novement!

Yay some movements from Nebraska, my case was forwarded to Nebraska from Ca after I got my extention letter. I hope we hear something soon. I'm happy for you.

    Hi there,
How do you know if your case has been transfered or not?
I initially sent it to CA but I can't find any information (or don't know where to look!) on my.uscis about where it currently is.

    Thanks!

Uscis case statutes enter your number that you received with extension letter, if it's not working call them.

    The same here.

Also seems like lots of cases are being transferred to Nebraska (my was there right away) does it mean it will slow down approvals for people like me? 😕 i would like to know how that works mmmm

Mine went there from the moment I got the extension letter, and has been there with no updates, I just think they are overwhelmed with the cases, how fast ( slow) they do them I don't know but we decided to give them at least 6 months before we call thats just us I don't know about others.

    Hi

August filer here (CSC). We received our NOA on 10-20-18. As of 2 weeks our case status changed from “ not found” to this:

On September 24, 2018, we accepted the fingerprint fee for your Form I-751, Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence, Receipt Number xxxxxx. Our Nebraska Service Center location is working on your case. We mailed you a notice describing how we will process your case.

As of today we still havent received any notices they claim they mailed. Anyone in the same boat?

    Karl.

I think the * notice*is the NOA,  my case says the same since the day we got our NOA, nothing has changed.

California fillers!   Did somebody call USCIS or receive the biometric appointment after getting NOA? I'm really annoyed that people you filed somewhere else 1 month later that me, done their biometrics already! That's not fair..😔

I got my NOA last week and on the bottom of the notice it says We require biometrics for some type of cases, if we need biometrics from you we will  send you separate appointment notice. So I dont know if I will receive one or not

I initially mailed out my packet in July but it was returned to me a month later because I accidentally included the wrong fee ( was off by 5 freaking dollars, don't know what I was doing!!). So i ended u mailing it out by the end of august and it arrived to them on September the 5th. It's been over a month now and no extension letter has arrived. I called USCIS today and I was given a receipt number which like others before me have posted doesnt work on the site and only shows case received on the dhs site. It begins with LIN as well. She told me theres been an update to my case on september 28th and that it may have been mailed that day or the day after. Either way I'm supposed to wait 30 days and see if I received it otherwise I need to call them back and create an inquiry.

This is all super frustrating especially since my GC expired on the 2nd of October. I hope it arrives soon and I don't need to escalate

My GC expires on 22nd of October, they cashed my check two weeks ago, they recieved my package on 30th of August, I still didn't call them but I'll wait 2 more weeks and call them, I started panicking last night, logged on here and honestly reading all this thread my panic level dropped a bit because I am not alone one on this journey ☹ I just hope soon all of us will soon get what we are waiting for
