Not sure if this is the right place to ask a question. I apologize admin
Hi everyone, a little insight from the group. I have a family who needs some clarity on this issue. A mother filed for the husband and kids as a green card and they are now in the state as as green card holder. Shortly after the family joined, the wife became a usa citizen just like 5 month after the husband and kids already have their green card. Will the husband still wait for the normal 5yrs duration or the duration changes from 5yrs to 3yrs now before the husband can applies for his own citizenship? Thanks

The best time and easiest time to do a name change with no fee is before naturalization (filing N400). Since that wasn't actualized and the certificate of naturalization has been issued, you will have get this done by going to the court for a name changed. When thats done, you submit to the necessary or update with agencies where necessary.

You need to petition a state court to legally change your child's name. Then you submit the name change court order when you apply for a US passport and/or N-600 for your child.
Thanks alot Chancy for the response.

Hello everyone. Please I do have a question and hopefully someone out here will have the answer. Am a us citizen and during my naturalization process I applied for a change of last name which was successfully done. My son is still with a green card and is below 10yrs of age. Am trying to get his certificate of naturalization but he still has my old last name on his green card. The question here is this: how do I go about making sure the certificate that will be issued to him bears my newly changed last name? Do I go to the court first to change the name or what? Please I need your urgent advice. Thanks and patiencely awaiting a response from you all.

I had my interview today in Baltimore. I was approved and the oath has been scheduled. I haven't seen the letter yet. The process was very quick and I got all the 6 questions right.
Name one war fought by the US in the 1800s - Mexican-American War
What did Martin Luther King Jr do - fought for civil rights
What is one power of the federal government - declare wars
What is the capital of your state - Annapolis
There were 13 original states. Name 3 - Maryland, Delaware and NY
How many amendments does the constitution have? - 27
Reading - Who can vote?
Writing - Citizens can vote
I am so close now, I can't wait to see the date and book my vacation. It has been a long year.
Waoooo...Congratulation. my interview is in Baltimore too in 3wks time

I had my interview yesterday, and was recommended for approval! I was seen almost an hour past my appointment time, and my IO was so nice! We started with the tests "just to get them out of the way" my IO said, and then we reviewed my application together. I've had a ton of trips in the year since I applied, so after going through all of the yes/no questions, we updated that part of my application. I'd written out all of my trips, the countries I visited, the dates, and the days I was gone. She really appreciated that I came to the interview with that prepared to give her, and I'd recommend anyone else to do the same. After I signed everything, she gave me the paper congratulating me, and told me I was recommended for approval. The whole thing was not more than 20 minutes. I wasn't asked for tax info, although I had it with me. Ultimately I just gave her my green card, passport, and updated trip information. Such a relief to be through the process, and about an hour after my interview I received a notification that I was placed in line for the oath ceremony. This morning I got an update saying my oath was scheduled!
This is getting more beautiful. Waooo...i love these good news. My interview is 3rd of July. Congratulations

That’s correct. My case which is pretty straight forward should be completed by June or July 2019.
I see. Thanks alot

For a long time since I filed in June 2018, my completion timeline was June 2020. When my interview was scheduled for May 31, the completion timeline changed to Dec 2019. So it’s evident that these dates are not accurate by any means
If I get you right, you saying the interview scheduling is correct but the date timeline isn't usually true right?

I don't understand what you meant by in your case ........? Could you throw more light on this statement please.
Thanks

If you guys are married, your spouse don't need to wait til he's a citizen before petitioning for you. Your spouse can start the process but if the spouse want to wait until he or she becos me a citizen, that will take minimum 5yrs before petitioning cos he/she can file for citizenship 90days before the 5th year. I don't know if this help
-
Yes, you can always update your address anytime. The moment your form n400 has been received, you will get a mail containing your detail info along with instruction on how to create uscis account. The letter has some code that u will need to create the account. After the account created, there's a section where you can edit your address should in case your address changes. I know this becos I did it too. Hope this help.

@DeatinyDeatinychild1: thanks for the prompt response. As the checklist, that means I don't need to submit tax transcripts at this stage since, marriage certificate etc just the fees, photocopy of GC and passport photograph,

My guess is that only hers appears because he is a derivative applicant, with your wife being the principal. If you included him on the i-130.
Actually, I found this same topic on this forum, and this response is really helpful: (It is for a fiancee beneficiary, but I believe it applies to your case also)

Hi Peteddy,
First of all, Welcome to the forum. Second of all, Congratulations on the approval!
I imagine your wife and son are in another country, what would come next is the NVC stage, first of all you would receive a welcome letter. You must prepare yourself for the fees you have to pay and the documents you have to submit. Basicaly it has 4 steps: Choosing an agent, paying fees, submitting your documents, and getting an interview. However, it will take some time, and your interview will only be assigned when the Priority Date becomes current. You can learn all about it here: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/the-immigrant-visa-process/after-petition-approved/begin-nat-visa-center.html
And also in the VJ's guide: http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/NVC_Process
This is if your wife and son are outside the U.S., if they are in the US, then it would have to be via Adjustment of Status.
Waooo... thanks alot for the prompt response. My family arent in USA. Please one other thing, the two letters i have received i mean i1797 notice, the only name on the letters is my wife name. My son name isnt on it. I did include his name in the i130. I dont know why his name not on the letter.
