  1. Ana, you are quoting the official time. NVC can take up to 11 weeks to process the documents (it was 6 then 8 and now 11 weeks). i petitioned for my father(IR5), and NVC received the AOS and Civil docs on March 22. i have no way to tell if they started reviewing them or they are still laying somewhere. i personally assume by looking at various timelines from different countries. For IR5, process is about 9-14 months long.

  2. The immigration policy of this country should treat prospective immigrants graduating with Masters in STEM fields with respect and extra care. these are the best brains in the world who have contributed to the US with exorbitant fees as international students. Most of the them end up finding work (well paid) after some struggle but the government need to get this that these people are law abiding people who will be great US citizens. i guess what i am trying to say is the path to citizenship for these people should be expedited.we all know how the employers to these foreign students treat them like in lieu of sponsoring their green cards. i would like to wish the OP good luck. May all your troubles be little ones.

  3. I just passed my naturalization interview this morning (yay!), and was told my oath ceremony would be sometime in February. I had plans to go to Canada mid-February, but I have a feeling my oath ceremony will be right before. Now that I am a US citizen (with dual citizenship with France), do I need to wait until I have my US passport to leave the country? Can I apply for my US passport today, or do I need to wait until after my oath ceremony to apply?

felicitations monsieur et madame for passing the test, i bet it is the easiest one you ever had. you are not a US citizen until you take your oath. time depends on various local offices and the people in queue. mine took 3 months after the interview as my local office was not a big busy one.To answer to your question, you can't apply for a US passport as the applicant has to submit the certificate of naturalization at the time of US pp applications.you can apply moments after you have that in your hand on the day of oath ceremony. once again congratulations. it is a great feeling.

  4. So last Friday, Dec. 9, my son and I had an interview at the Calgary office. We arrived at 8 am though our appointment was at 8:40 am. So we went straight to the security, and they inspected our jackets, removed belt and watches. Just like at the airport.

Then we were asked to fall in line and the security guard said that we cannot make any contact with anyone outside. We went straight to the elevator and went to the 10th floor.

When we arrived, we were asked to fall in line again. On the 1st window, the lady asked for our passports and the 2x2 pictures and our PR card. it took us 15 minutes because the lady needs to change my information because I used my old passport with my maiden name when I filled up the ds160 form. I have a new passport with my Married name now.

Then at window 4, fingerprinting, it took us at least 15 minutes again because the lady can't get my fingerprints because my hands are wet hahahahha!!!! My son was so embarrassed already  hahah!

Then the actual interview was in a different window as well.

The lady asked me: How long have you been here in Canada, I said 7 years. Is this your first time to apply for a US Visa, I said yes, she told me , You've been here for 7 years and you just applied now? I said yes. Maybe she was a little bit surprised because some Filipinos apply right away even if they only hold a working visa... lol!

Then she asked how long we are staying in the US, I said just 2 weeks.. She also asked where we are going... I said Las Vegas and Disneyland. :)

And finally she said, Everything's ok, both your visas are approved... :)

Our passport will be shipped after a week.

    woot woot!!!!! :)

    Welcome to America !

  5. Hello,

My husband and I are planning on immigrating to the US in mid March on a CR1 visa (which will probably be changed to an IR1 visa since it will be a few days after out second anniversary.) My husband was denied a visa a few years ago on 2 different occasions. He stated on the visa application that he's been denied before. Will this cause any problems or suspicion at the poe (which will be EWR)?

    Thank

No, it will not cause any problems.

  6. Hi my case has been on Ap for a year now I've done everything to know what's going on! Now the embassy went to my fiancés dads house asking him questions about our relationship! So I guess they didn't believe us. We are still on AP though, what should I do?

This process gets nastier if the intending immigrant is from a poor/high fraud country. unfair huh ? unfortunately, it is the standard and that is how it goes.

  7. Hello guys,

I really need your help. Any thoughts or guidance would mean a lot.

I am a US citizen and got married in August 2015 in India. My wife resides there. I filed for my wife's I-130 in November 2015 after she updated her Indian passport with my name as her last name. I-130 was originally filed with Nebraska SC. I received the I-797 in January 2016 with my receipt number. Then there was no updates for a while. I called the USCIS numerous times including talking to the officer numerous times requesting a status update since it was outside the processing time. :clock: I have not used an attorney for my filing.

Finally in September 2016 I received a letter stating that my I-130 case was being transferred to Vermont SC. Then in late September 2016 USCIS sent me a letter informing me that my case is on hold because of a required security check is pending. It has been 2 months since and there has been no updates. :crying:

    1) Was my case sent for the security check since my wife changed her last name to my surname?

    2) I don't understand why they waited 10 months before sending my case for security check?

    3) What can I do to help speed the process.

This is really frustrating and very difficult for us as we have been waiting patiently for over a year. Our case has not even completed the first phase of I-130 approval.

Thanks for your help in advance!

i think a mis judgement was made on your guy's part. wife should have her married name on the PP and only than you guys should have filed for I-130. oh well, things happen. if USCIS does not know about the name change, its evident there are going to be delays. i am not sure if you have updated USCIS with this change.if not, i would suggest a INFOPASS, update them with copies of new and old passport of your wife. Handing over a letter of explanation to the officer would not hurt either.in any case, you guys have lost bunch of time already but this will make things clear to the authorities.

  8. Has anybody ever experienced going to the interview and being told by the CO that u need to bring your children's birth certificates? Even tho the children are not traveling with him. .My fiance was told that he should send the kids birth certificates along with his passport back to them.

    it is possible.

  9. Hi,

I am currently in US on L2 visa and working in a legal firm over here. I want my sister (unmarried, currently student) in India to come to the United States. My husband is on L1 visa and is sponsoring her trip.

She has a work experience in a company in India and has income tax related papers. but now, she is not employed, she left her job for further studies.

She is currently a college student and her studies will complete in April 2016, she already has a job in hand in India through college placement and will be joining from June 2016.

What are the challenges she can face for Visa approval?

She has bank account there, fixed deposits, my parents are also there in India only. She has offer letter from the current company (through college placement).

She has never travelled internationally before.

How much money is needed to be in her bank account?

    Please advise.

There can't be definitive answer for your question. India (like many others) as per USICS is a high fraud country when it comes to immigration like many other. there can't be a sure shot guaranteed way or methodology to follow in order to get a B2. Even after fulfilling the conditions set by the US missions abroad to get a B2, it is still a matter of pure fluke.in this case, there are more negatives than positives. no previous travel, no job, young age of the applicant are few of them but like i mentioned before, you never know the application can still be successful.no harm in trying. Also, my comments are not to discourage or berate anyone but to present truth.good luck

  10. My husband decided to be nice and sent the package for me without asking me he though i forgot to take it with me when I went to work but he wrote a check in USCIS name and sent by regular USPS service but I did it with the right check (home land security) and I use over the night UPS :sleepy:

May all your troubles be little ones. good luck.

  11. I sent my N-400 twice by accident in two different dates one of the checks was cashed and the another one we put an stop payment so far i have 2 different case numbers and the online status on both said that they mailed the biometrics appointments what to do?

i am sorry but i can't help laughing and fail to understand how is that even possible ?

  12. Asking for my fiance in India. What police clearance records are needed? I have read he will need one from the passport center and one from the local police station in the city he lives in. Is this correct, or will the one from the passport center satisfy the USA embassy?

    Thank You,

    Heidi

Heidi, the info is partially correct.

Once you apply for the clearance at the local passport office, it goes to the local police station of beneficiary's jurisdiction.representative visits the person's house to verify and whatever internal procedure they do to run a background. once cleared. the file goes to the senior superintendent of police's office for his/her signature and finally it comes back to the passport office with the result of findings. sounds pretty technical, is not it ? Guess what ? the process is completely shabby and corrupt. bribing these representatives who comes for verification is considered a ritual to expedite the process. not to scare you or anything. this has been a norm.

  13. hi yall,

hey i am just curious how anybody/everybody organized their documents for the green card interview. whether you used a accordion file or ring binder or what ever you used... and how you organized for example the accordion file with labels.....i got my interview coming up in December and i want to make sure i got my docs in order. so if anybody could tell me how they organized their docs... i would appreciate it a lot....

good luck to all that is still in the process and congratulations to all whom has past the process

    Hi there,

i took them all in a cheap walmart attache.i had them all in Manilla envelopes with of course had put some headings or titles on each one them. turned out to be all waste. we were in and out in 10 minutes. FYI, we were interviewed by a female and there was a student sitting behind her (i believe they both studied my and my wife's case together). they were more concentrated on me(beneficiary), my body language and other things. Good luck to you. take the docs however you are comfortable with. they are nice.

    10 - PASSPORT POLICE CERTIFICATE:____________________________

We cannot accept the police certificate document you sent. You must send us the correct document so we can continue to process your case. To see the guidelines for your document, go to our website at http://travel.state....by-country.html. Enter your country of birth in the box at the top of the page. The next page will be your country's "reciprocity schedule". Click on "Police, Court, Prison Records" on the left-hand side. This will take you to a page with the exact requirements for the type of police certificate you must submit to the NVC.

If your documents are not in English or the language of the country where you will have your interview, you must include a certified translation. The translation must include a statement that says the:

    * Translation is accurate

    * Translator is competent to translate

And don't forget that i just visited this site http://travel.state....by-country.html ,and it says if u are foreign take it from FRRO but i first applied it in FRRO then they process it forwarded it to Bangalore ,because they can not process here in Mysore,so how can i explain ,And what shal i do now

Sorrry for the bad English Tnkz all

you probably have to have your passport renewed and apply for a new police clearance cert. from a local Indian mission here in the US.
