See, I was trying to research if I could obtain a SSN before I was approved for a Green Card, but nothing came up.
I'll look into this, thank-you. -
It's been about 6 months since I've been here and I'm slowly running out of hobbies. Hahahaha
Thankfully, my step Mother-in-law will be giving me a fancy sewing machine this weekend, so I can learn how to do that.
It's just driving me nuts. We only have 1 car and zero buses in our town and nothing is in walking distance.
I'm just starting to get antsy. Can you get your driver's license without an SSN?

There's no precise estimates only forum posts and user created timelines
It all depends on how exotic is your case, how much evidence did you send and which red flags might exist. I've had no interview for example and GC was mailed before AP and EAD
Which month did you fill and sent your AOS package?

Here are threads for may, june, and july fillers respectively
Thanks for the response, we filed May 26th, 2016.
Everything was pretty fast up until July 12th and now we're at a stand still and I'm just sad.
I called USCIS and she said I should call back in November if I haven't heard anything.
It's just depressing. I'm literally stuck in the house all day, I want to work and be a person.
Haha.

I don't have an answer to your question and for that I am sorry for,. But I have the same receipt as you: MSC.
7 months? That sucks... like so much, I'm not even on my 2 month waiting time yet. (That'll be the 12th of this month.)I'm currently on the stage of, "On June 08, 2016, we accepted the fingerprint fee for your Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or to Adjust Status....."
My lawyer BS'd me and said that the immigration and what have you would be so fast that I wouldn't need to apply for Advanced Parole, so she didn't apply.
I don't even know if it's too late to apply for AP.
I called USCIS and she said to call in November if I haven't heard anything and it's just so frustrating.Congratulations to you though! You're almost there!

Hey everyone, I sincerely apologize if I'm no where close to posting in the right forum topic! I've never been good at it.
Anyway a little backstory:I came to the USA as a visitor/with the intentions of visiting (I am Canadian - from Ontario), due to personal issues while I was visiting my fiance (at the time) in the states, we withdrew from the K1 Fiance Visa and married April 8th, 2016.
I am now here in the states (Buffalo, NY area), adjusting my status.
I got my Biometrics appointment completed July 12th, 2016 and it has been almost 2 months (September 12th will be the 2 month marker) since I've heard anything from USCIS.
Does anyone have a general timeline as to how long they had to wait to hear back to get their interview date given to them?
I know I have to wait my turn, but I don't know how long I should be expecting to wait until I hear back with an interview date! Thanks in advance.
Yours impatiently,
Adequate Canadian

Thanks everyone for your feedback, I sincerely do appreciate it.
If I won't get deported, then all is good! Haha.
I'll be sure to bring my Passport and my latest update of my status!
Thanks so much everyone and apologies if this caused a debate!. -
Bring your NOA1 for your I-485 along.
You are in a period of authorized stay until your AOS application is adjudicated.
Thank-you so much!

Hi there, apologies if this has been asked before.
My mother-in-law and husband want to drive to North Carolina from our house (about a 12 hour drive both ways) to my husband's Grandma's house to visit her for Labor Day weekend.Right now, I'm on my last stage of Adjusting my Status and should hopefully be hearing back as to when we get our Interview date. I've already had my biometrics appointment completed on July the 12th.
Anyway, am I able to travel within the USA while my I-484 Application is pending? However, I am an overstay on my Visitor's visa and I was wondering if I could have issues if for example, a police person pulls us over.
I contacted my Immigration Paralegal about this and she said I would be okay if I brought my passport and a copy of the I-485 receipt (Application for Permanent Residency)
But, I wanted a second opinion because I am a worrier.
If you guys believe it's not safe and I shouldn't travel within the States because I am an overstay on my Visitor's Visa, then we can always reschedule later down the road! I've just been stuck in this house for months and it's driving me crazy! Haha.
Thanks in advance. -
Anitafeliz:
I mean, I still have the email where my mother states that I was kicked out without notice, the day after my arrival into USA as I stated in my previous message.
I was only supposed to be staying a week.
My intention was not to adjust, only to visit. I had a place to live in Canada at the time of my arrival.
The next day, I did not.
I spent the next week contacting apartments/house rentals that I still have correspondence with.
Why would I go into the states with the intent of marriage and ruin my chances of getting approved for the K1 Visa when we were in the process?
Things happen.

**This is going to get kind of personal, but I honestly don't care at this point!**
At the time (Which was only a few months ago, but it seems like a lifetime - in a good way), I was living in Ontario, Canada. The USC, in the Buffalo, NY Area... So only an hour away from one another, with a border at the half way point.
I quit my job in February 2016 because it was making me miserable, I was living with my parents (who are psycho) and my fiance (at the time) was just going to pay my way (I was paying rent whilst employed- understandably so) until I could come over legally because everything was just too much to handle, as we were going through the K1 Visa process.
Lo and behold, after a huge family fight while my fiance and I were at my house in Canada, we decided to leave pretty much as soon as we arrived, leaving my vehicle behind as I was too emotional to drive. After some issue at the border (because I kept crossing so frequently *Due to toxic living conditions* and was honest with them about my employment status, they gave me a hard time about crossing.
They allowed me to go through this time, but on my departure from the states and re-entry I was to provide proof of ties to Canada.Looking back on it now, I was so lucky to be allowed entry. That night at customs it took everything within my being to hold it together and not break down in tears. One of the worst nights of my life.
The next day I received an email from my loving mother stating I was kicked out without any notice (even though I paid rent) and I had 2 1/2 weeks to get rid of my animals that currently resided there.I was in a panic, my fiance and I were at wit's end. We attempted to look for an apartment that was animal friendly that was still relatively close and everything fell through.
Turns out Visa Journey saved me. We were running out of options and I figured as I told customs I would only be here a week, I was wary about overstaying (However, I still had a few months on my Visitor Visa)I was honestly a nervous wreck, I posted on here if there was anyway we could expedite the K1 Visa process, but a few users on this forum advised me to just stay and get married.
I didn't know that it was a viable option. I thought I was going to have to live in a grungy motel until we could find a better living situation for me. I thought I was going to have to give away my beloved pets.Entering the states on March 21st, I got married to my hero and best friend on April 8th!!
My mother-in-law, who I consider more of a mother than my biological one, offered to hire a lawyer so I didn't have to stress over paper work.
We withdrew from the K1 Visa and now we await for the next steps.

Honestly until you have some status in the USA or are included on his insurance (which he should add you to... it will make it cheaper most likely) if there was an accident, it could cost a lot of money.
Wait for your EAD and AP so you can import your car yourself. It's about 90 days. Make sure you can get a compliance letter during that time so that importing is easier. (And actually doable.) You dont have a loan on the car right?
I own it out right, it's a Ford Escape 2008.
And yeah, we were going to go on his insurance once the car was properly imported.
-
Thanks everyone for the advice, I'm thinking at this point to just wait it out!
If the husband is stubborn enough to come with me because he doesn't want me to go alone to do chores after a long day of him working, then he'll just have to suffer! Haha.
I rather not risk it, I am definitely a worrier and getting my mother-in-law to drive it across the border really does make me wary of customs.
-
I honestly feel that if you can wait for you AP to come through you'll have an easier time of it. Unless it's essential you have that car with you right now, I don't see the rush. Consider your mother in law and her kindness, you never know what might happen at the border and you don't want that relationship to go sour all for waiting for a couple of months to get a car that isn't going anywhere.
Yes, I initially was feeling this way too about waiting.
But the mother-in-law and husband kept going on and on and on about just getting the car for me with the notarized letter. Lol.
I really didn't want to hassle them and I do whatever I can to pay them back on a daily basis.
I'm going to let them know that I'd rather just wait and not cause any mess.
-
Is there a reason you need the car with you ASAP? If you filed for the AP, you should receive that in 90 days from filing and you could cross the border yourself and get the car. I only wish I could bring mine to the states, but importing a car is a no-no from what I'd read.
Just be aware that the 4 months MAX that the lawyer told you might not be quite right, it took us 7 months from filing until having the Green Card in hand and we were also told that the wait would be about 3 months. Just don't set yourself up for a fall. If it happens sooner, awesome. If you have to wait longer, don't be disappointed.
Thank-you so much for the response!
Reason behind why I need my car ASAP is errands and chores and feeling guilty of always having to rely on him for transport.
He refuses (He is a stubborn man) to let me drive his car without him because he feels bad if I go alone to do something, but I feel terrible for him coming along with me after he's had a long day at work. And being as there are no bus routes, I'm trapped!
It's honestly a petty reason, but we don't live far away from my house in Canada and my mother-in-law is the one who offered to pick it up in the first place. I really try not to ask anything from them, as they've done so much already.
I understand about the 4 months being a generalization. I could wait forever, I'm honestly just extremely ecstatic that I am away from my previous living conditions and with the guy I love.

Or you could get a freight company to move your car to the US, if you can afford. And where will your MIL leave the car? At a storage?
I think it is just a huge inconvenience to have you MIL to do that. Are you working? I will go out on a limb to say that, your MIL is very nice to help you, don't inconvenience her. She will have to FLY or drive and tow her car or your car or rent a car and drive to get your car. Have you thought about how expensive all this is going to get just because you can't wait to have your car (did I forget that you can't work under your current status). So why the rush? That is messy. Just wait until you have an AP then you can go and get your car.
Good luck!
Because my old home in Canada is only an hour away from my new home in the States, we were all thinking of my husband and her driving to Canada in one car and my mother-in-law driving it back to our residence in the States with a notarized form, me giving her permission to drive it across the border.
But, that's why I posted my question! I don't want it to get messy, haha!
-
I also apologize if I put this in the wrong forum topic, I honestly have no idea where to post this!!

This is going to be kind of drawn out, but I'd like for everyone to have as much information as possible..
It's probably going to get kind of personal, but I honestly don't care at this point anymore..
So here's the story:
Originally, the USC and I were going through the K1 Fiance visa process, so I (the Canadian) could move to the States and be with the USC.At that time (March 2016) I was living with my parents, a very dysfunctional environment.
Because the USC and I lived only an hour a part, a border in between, whenever there was a really bad family dispute I'd go back over the border and stay with him in the States until things blew back over in Canada.
So that's what pretty much happened during the month of March.
Timeline:
Family dispute in Canada.
Left for 2 weeks to USA to be with USC.
Came back to Canada the weekend of the 19th of March, another huge family fight.
We left March 20th, we came back over the border in USC's vehicle, I left my Vehicle in Canada. I was too emotional to drive.**We actually got pulled into customs as they stated I was spending too much time in the states and they provided me with a form that asked me to prove ties to Canada. I was to give them this form when I left USA and came back to the border to visit again. -- But they let me through this time **
Then the date of March 21st, while I was in the USA, I receive an email from my mother stating I am kicked out without any notice.
After looking for an apartment near the border for a week, we found nothing. It all fell through.
I was going to be homeless. But then, I decided to post on Visa Journey asking for advice in regards to if we could expedite the K1 visa process.
I got the answer of, unfortunately because there is no hardship towards the USC, we wouldn't be able to do anything.
BUT, some of the users on here advised me to stay in the USA and adjust my status. That was the best piece of advice I had ever received and you guys pretty much saved my life.
So, the USC and I got married April 8th, 2016.Yay!
My mother-in-law paid for a lawyer for us to process the paper work so I could get my Green card.
She knew I did all of the paper work for the K1 Visa myself and because so much has happened, she didn't want to add more stress and just wanted a lawyer to do it for us.So we withdrew from the K1 Visa process. The Lawyer will be sending out my paper work today. She says it should only take 2-3 months until I get my green card, 4 months max.
So here in lies my question..
My Vehicle is still in Canada, I obviously want my car.I am unable to leave the USA until I get my green card.
My family (The Canadian Citizens) are unwilling to drive my car across the border to drop it off.
But, I read online somewhere that if I got a notarized letter giving permission to say my mother-in-law to drive my car over the border and once I get my green card to import it while it's already across the border, or would that raise any suspicion?Or do you think it is best to wait until I receive my green card to bring it across and import it at that time?
Sorry for the long, drawn out question..
Thanks in advance.

Does anyone know how we would go about withdrawing the K1 Visa?
I understand that we have to write some form of letter with a reason why..
I don't really know what to put it in said letter due to my circumstance...
Should I withdraw first?
Or is it okay to get married and withdraw from said K1 petition in the mean time?
As I am hiring an attorney (I know that everyone is all about saving money - so am I, haha. But my fiance's mom is insistent that she will pay for us.)
The attorney stated that I should withdraw my K1 petition.
I don't know if it's due to me being so burnt out, but I honestly have no idea how to begin this process.
I attempted to browse the forums and came up with little. (I -have- to be looking in the wrong places, haha.)
From what I have found on the forums, I came up with answers in regards to that the petitioner needs to write a letter, asking to withdraw from the K1 petition.
Does he NEED to provide a reason behind this?
IF someone can give me an idea as to how we go about writing this letter, this would be immensely helpful.
I also read somewhere that it needs to be notarized?
Also, in our panic due to the mystery of my living situation my fiance (the petitioner) had called NCSC (It think that's what it's called) and asked for the K1 petition to be expedited, prior to finding out about AOS option. They informed him he would receive an email if it is to be declined or approved in 4-5 business days.
Can he just call in again and cancel the expedition?
I feel like we've messed up and I'm so worried about everything. :l

Adequate Canadian, nice to see another person in Western NY besides myself. Welcome to the site. I am in Medina which is close to Lake Ontario. About 45 mins north of Buffalo.
Well, hi there!
Thanks for the friendly welcome.

You can wait til later to import your car. I did. But your plan to have a friend drive your car down with all of your worldly belongings may backfire, as it may look like YOUR FRIEND is planning to immigrate illegally with all of THEIR worldly belongings. The friend might get denied at the border and may get restrictions or a ban on future visits.
Yeah, I agree with this.
That's why we're going to hold off.
Thank-you.

I meant to add - obviously you're thinking seriously about marriage because you've started the K-1 process but I'm concerned that you want to speed it up because of your living situation. Don't marry before you're ready. Been there, done that, got the divorce papers.
I'm 1101010202% ready to get married.
He means the world to me! And I'm excited.
I'm going through the AOS process.
This is the happiest I've been in a long while.

Would I technically have to import my vehicle if I'm still on my visitor's?
Couldn't my friend just bring the vehicle over? I'm assuming I'd have to pay duties on it.
Look up importing your vehicle on the forum. Decide if it's worth it first.

You don't need an attorney save the money for your new life.
Just remember you can't go back and get your car and stuff for a while.
What if someone brings my vehicle over for me?

Hey! To add onto this, you may want to get a Nexus Card. They hassle you less at the border.
My husband and I lived only an hour a part and were looking into this prior to other events, it should make things easier for you.
