I called NVC just now (because I'm impatient this morning, I guess) to see if Lagos embassy had begun scheduling yet. Nothing so far, but she did say that a couple other countries have begun. :-)
Are interview emails generated the instant the interview is scheduled, or do they delay sending them out? Just trying to see if I should bother calling again at the end of the day...
-
Does anyone know if the slots for interviews in Lagos typically fill with people still in the que? From the spreadsheet, it looks like they are pretty accommodating... Just curious.
-
Just joining the thread... Our CC was yesterday and we're hoping there are enough slots for us to be a part of the interview scheduling next week!

Scan Date: February 19, 2016
Case Completed: March 22, 2016
All smiles over here...

With a scan date of February 19th... I'm praying this is our week!

Has anyone here had experience submitting a needed document before a checklist has been generated?
We submitted our packages to NVC in the beginning of this month, and we just received a police clearance that we thought was unattainable. Our original package includes documents to support our claim that the police clearance could not be attained; but, luckily they FINALLY issued it after many months of us trying to get it. Anyway, I'm just curious how this might affect our scan date.
Also, if I included a copy of my passport in our packages do I really mail it to my husband?
-
Thank you guys for your answers; it sounds like as long as I'm organized, NVC will understand.
-
Thank you!

So the welcome letter checklist ("Document Cover Sheet") just goes inside the main envelope and not inside either of the AOS or IV packages? If I understand what you're saying correctly, there will be the main shipping envelope with the document cover sheet and two additional envelopes inside of it (AOS and IV).
-
Also, I have read that the AOS and IV packages should be placed into the same envelope (as not to end up on separate desks)... but this proves troublesome too, because each cover sheet says to address it to a different attention.
-
I am a bit confused as to how to organize my AOS and IV packages given the cover sheets that the NVC has provided me with.
Originally I was under the impression that I should prepare two separate packaged (AOS and IV) each with their respective cover sheets (provided by the NVC), but now I'm confused because the NVC has also provided me with a "Document Cover Sheet" that lists items to be checked off that are included in both the AOS and IV packages.
Should I just send one large package without separating the AOS and IV documents? And if not, what should I do with the "Document Cover Sheet" that they provided?

My husband and I are having a hard time getting police clearance from South Africa from abroad. We would like to use a company to assist us and have found "South Coast Fingerprinting" to be an option. They seem professional and reasonably priced. Does anyone here have experience using this service?
-
The USCIS goal is 5 months across the board, but processing times can vary.
-
Absolutely, you can travel and come back.
-
You are welcome here in the US; there is no law stating that Muslims cannot come to the US. I'm so sorry that our media has even caused you to feel the need to ask this question.
-
The question itself states, in bold (above the further explanation that you have quoted in your original post):
"Complete the information below if your relative is in the United States and will apply for adjustment of status."
Is your relative is in the United States? (yes or no)
Will your relative apply for adjustment of status? (yes or no)
If you can't answer yes to BOTH of these questions, question #22 is not applicable to you.
*Personally, my husband is living and working in Nigeria and I am a USC living and working in Idaho; I wrote NA in response to every blank for question #22 and our petition was approved recently without issue.
Sounds like you already have a variety of answers to choose from above (and to be honest I'm kind of only posting my 2 cents to see how my signature shows up because I just updated it
), but I wish you the best of luck. I use VisaJourney as a great resource, but in the end I suggest you read all the instructions on the official forms and websites very carefully and follow them the best you can. I've seen a lot of advice on VJ that I personally wouldn't follow.

It does slow it down, but it's just a road block, not a complete shutdown. I'm not sure how long they typically take, maybe a month total?
-
Maybe; but an REF isn't a big deal. Just provide them with what they ask for and keep moving forward.

I was transferred to the Potomac center mid-last month. From what I have been able to find out, it seems that you should still reference the processing time from the initial center where your file was sent (I don't think this site will make the Potomac center an option for tracking since it is not a permanent service center?). I have read of one I-130 approval from the Potomac center. The filer was from Egypt and petitioned in July.
-
I just read about a guy on here getting an NOA2 from the Potomac center! He filed in early July and was transferred there from Nebraska on the 16th of October. :-)

Thank you for posting this (including all the detail about online not being updated etc.). You've given me hope for a fast processing time and a renewed excitement to see my husband again sooner than later!
Hi July filers!
My case was transferred to Potomac center October 16th.
I was out of the city for a week, but I always checked myUSCIS and there was no update. I came home today and found NOA2 in the mail. My petition has been approved. Receipt Date 07/10/15 Notice Date 11/9/15.
I hope everybody who got transferred to Potomac will get their approval soon !!!
PS. Checked myUSCIS today, last update was 10/16/15

If your wife has been living with her mother for longer than 6 months, her mother's income and assets can be included (not as a joint sponsor, but as a household member - same as a dependent), if you choose to include her in your "household size" by having her fill out and I-864a. I'm not sure about the fact that her income is from the government, but I think if her mother owns a house that might be considered good additional collateral to include to show she can support you (if your wife makes borderline or below 125% the poverty level for your household size).
But as stated above, if your wife makes above the 125% mark, I wouldn't worry about it.

When I saw all the posts this morning about how stressful this process is, how much the USC typically does, and how our husbands might not feel all that pressure until close to the end, I laughed... My husband and I have felt the pressure together throughout the entire process (although in different ways), but whenever it became a point of contention for us, or became overwhelming, we jokingly referred to the pain as the IMMIGRATION MONSTER. Right before my husband's interview on Monday he assured me that he was going to bring a machete along with him to slay it once and for all. I'm not sure how embassy security would have handled that...
