  1. Hello,

I hope I'm not asking something that has already been covered, but I searched through this website and couldn't find where it had. Here is my issue:

My husband's CR1 visa interview is 8/17 in Casablanca, Morocco. Today, he went to the ustraveldocs.com/ma website to register as was suggested through the NVC website - Casablanca specific pdf. My husband had applied for a tourist visa back in 2014 and when he tried to register a new account on the website it wouldn't let him because of his old account.

He went in and changed everything to reflect a CR1 visa with our priorty date, etc. He got a confirmation back --but at the bottom it had a DS-160 confirmation number. It did show his visa class as a CR1.

Has anyone had experience with this website ? Did we do this too soon ? Should we have waited until after his interview even though the consulate specific pdf on the nvc website stated for him to go to the ustraveldocs website immediately to register ?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks so much

  2. As a US citizen you are require to file taxes even if you live abroad. You should count the income for the whole year, not for the period you were in the US. If you US + Morocco income combined was below the limit for filing taxes then you are good. If not, you should file your taxes for 2014. You can try to get your W2 by email. You will likely not pay any taxes for your income in Morocco but you are required to file anyway.

If your income for the whole year of 2014 was below the required level, the a letter would be ok. But I would absolutely recommend that you try to recover your W2 for 2014.

I did work while I was in Morocco but was paid in cash in all instances. I have no way to claim that income. My income here in the US and that in Morocco (from all sources) still was not enough to file taxes. I guess I will submit a letter saying this and see what happens. I have contacted the company I worked for months ago to get the W2's from 2014 and never received them. I can always try again I suppose. Thanks !

  3. I-864 additional question. I was living in Morocco for most of 2014 (July-Dec) and from (Jan-May) 2015. I did not file taxes in 2014 as my income prior to moving to Morocco was not enough to file. Another twist to this is I was in the midst of a divorce in 2014 and during the subsequent move out of the country, I did not receive my W2's from the employment I had in early 2014. Would a letter attached to the I-864 be sufficient, explaining my situation as to why I didn't file in 2014 ? I have tax transcripts and W2's from 2012, 2013 and 2015. I am submitting this information this week, so any help from others would be appreciated.

  4. Wow, way to be negative. There's definitely more to your friends story than you convey.

I (and many others) have visited our US fiance's using VWP without issues. Being honest and not staying too long are key. It's suggested to bring proof of ties to home, but I've never been asked for it.

There is no more to the story. It was as simple as that. I am not trying to be negative. While you (and many others) may have visited with no issues, doesn't mean there are those who have had issues even though they were honest. He had ties to home and had brought them also but was still returned to Switzerland. End of story, nothing else to convey. Immigration thought, as others have stated in this thread, that he was trying to avoid the whole fiancee' visa process.

  5. A word of advice. A couple that are both friends of mine went through a very heart wrenching scenario. He was from Switzerland, had been in and out of the US many times, no problems. After they were engaged, he came to visit and when he was asked the purpose of his visit he said, "I'm here to visit my fiancee'". He was put back on the next plane to Switzerland and could not come back into the US until they had filed for and been approved for a fiancee' visa. Just be careful what you say when coming in to the US POE.

  6. My husbands noa2 was approved March 31st...should I follow up with nvc tomorrow?

You can, or you can wait a couple more days and hopefully you will get the notification like I did. I was going to call again early next week, but thankfully now I don't have to.

My husbands noa2 was approved March 31st...should I follow up with nvc tomorrow?

I'm sorry, I misread what you wrote. You just got your NOA 2 ? I'd wait awhile. It took from March 9 to March 28th for the NVC to get our petition.

  7. I was approved March 11. Two weeks exactly after that I received notification that the case was physically sent to NVC and 5 business days after that i called and they had received the case. She said 42 days for case number but she even admitted it almost never takes that long she said in about 2-3 weeks case # should be assigned.

Good luck we'll already half way through this.

We were approved March 9th. Received the e-mail from USCIS very early on the morning of March 10th that we had been approved. I didn't get the paper NOA2 for about 5 days after that. The afternoon of March 22nd, I got an e-mail saying our case had been sent to the Department of State (NVC). I called NVC yesterday, March 31st and the lady told me that they just received our petition on March 28th and that I needed to give them 42 days to get it put into the system and then we would have a case #. I plan on calling each week until I get it as I know it probably won't take the 42 days.

  8. Called the NVC today to see if they received our petition from Nebraska since it was sent to them on 3-22. They received it on 3-28 and told me it could be approximately 42 days before a case # would be assigned. I plan on calling them back in a couple weeks to see if a case # has been assigned yet. Everyone who is still waiting on approval, it's coming. Patience is a virtue, and not one of my strongest virtues that's for sure.

  9. Umm that's different from what I received.... I did get an email saying the case was approved.

when I received the approval letter it says on there that my case has already been sent to NVC, I never got an email saying they actually sent it ?

My first e-mail from USCIS came on 3-10-16 which said our case was approved on 3-9-16. I wasn't expecting this 2nd e-mail, but got it on 3-22-16 saying it had been sent to the Department of State. We'll see what happens next. :clock:

  10. Congratulations!!! I can't wait for the day I get that email =P I hope the rest of the process goes smoothly for you both as well - keep us posted!

My wife's petition was received Nov 16th and sent to the NSC. Checking the estimated times on a regular basis, and (if my calculations are correct), it should be approved by late May and everything else approved by the end of August. So long to keep going, but yay bureaucracy.

EDIT - I just saw from your original post that you were sent to the NSC as well. But on the estimate of times, as of 2/11 they were still processing August I-130's. Did yours get expedited?

    No, ours was not expedited.

  11. How did you find out the sent it to NVC yesterday?

I wonder cause mine was approved last month on the 29th and I figured they sent it right around that time... Now I don't know cause I didn't get any notification saying they sent it out

I got an e-mail from the USCIS saying that on 3-22-16 our case had been sent to the Department of State for visa processing.

I have not gotten anything from the NVC itself. I suppose that is next as I've been told by someone else on there that I should be receiving a welcome letter. I also had the USCIS app on my phone and it showed the same update to our case.

  12. So, I was sitting getting ready for work this morning when I received an e-mail notification on my phone. I just glanced at it and then grabbed my phone when I saw it was from USCIS. It was the e-mail I had been waiting for ! We were approved !!!!!!!

I am so thankful that this part is over ! On to the NVC and praying that the rest of the process will be over quickly.

Good luck to everyone still waiting for their approval. Keep the faith !

  13. Hello,

While our story is a little different from yours, as I was going through a divorce from my American ex-husband at the time my husband and I met, I do have a little bit of advice.

When we got married in Morocco, one of the things the judge asked me was if I had been married to either a Moroccan or anyone who wasn't an American before. The police investigation we went through, that question was also asked. I also know of someone who was married to a Moroccan, got divorced and met another Moroccan (she was living there) and they decided to do the K1 visa as she was moving back to the US and they wanted to be together as quickly as possible. They were denied. They were told that it was because she had been married to a Moroccan previously and even though they never petitioned for him to come to the US because she stayed in Morocco, they still questioned as to whether their relationship was real. We chose to get married in Morocco and then me come back to the US and petition for him to come here because of these reasons. While I think they have been approving a lot of petitions as of late, you run the risk of them denying it. A CR1 visa is a better bet. Although you can be put through extensive AP processing with either choice. Good luck with whatever you decide.

  14. Hello,

I am an American who was living in Morocco for nearly a year. When I came back to the US in May, I had a layover in Madrid and I was asked to turn my laptop on when going through security. Mine has a battery thank goodness. I still wouldn't stress, surely they will let you plug it in. Good luck to you either way. And welcome to the US

  15. Hello,

I am married to a Moroccan and we are currently going through the CR1 (spousal visa) process. We were married in Marrakech, Morocco in May of this year. I had been living there for nearly a year. It took about 3 weeks for us to get married from beginning to end and that included trips to Casablanca to the US Embassy for the certificate of nationality and eligibility to marry and then to Rabat to the ministry of Justice for the paperwork showing you are not wanted or involved in anything in Morocco. There is an additional office you must visit in Rabat, which I will have to look up.

If you need or want any other info, private message me. We were going to get married either way, whether there or here and we just decided to do it there. We had the time as I was living there.

From what I've heard due to Morocco being a high fraud country that it is sometimes difficult to get a fiance' visa. However, there are those on this site who are from Morocco who have been successful. You should be able to find airfare to Morocco for around 800 dollars or maybe a little more. What sites are you trying and what airport are you flying into in Morocco....that makes a difference too.

Good luck to you, whatever you decide to do.
