My 18 months extension letter expires on October 2. Do you think it's risky to schedule a trip outside the US coming back on September 22? Would I face problems reentering if I don't get an infopass appointment by then?

No, your extension letter is still valid, and you've got enough of a buffer between 22nd and the 2nd that if your flight gets delayed etc you'll still be returning in time.

  2. So I got an email this morning that action had been taken, and when I checked my case has updated to New Card Is Being Produced, dated yesterday. Woot!

Applied to the CSC in Feb 18, heard literally nothing (beyond getting my 12mo then 18mo then another 18mo extension letter) until early this July. Had biometrics in the St Louis field office on July 16, 2019. Then nothing again until this update. They didn't even update to say they'd done the biometrics. I went 17mo on Case Received/We Can't Issue an Update. No interview, no RFE. Which honestly shocks me because we both work from home running independent businesses, and the only things we own jointly/have our names on together is a car and health insurance. We're literally together 24/7 but can't really prove it, so I threw the kitchen sink in with the supporting evidence and it must have worked.

But I did check out the field offices in Atlanta, Baltimore, Norfolk, North Carolina, and Pittsburgh (all within relative driving distance) and our local DC office. None said they do walk in or scheduling for infopass.

So I don't know, and I hope not to find out.

Yeah I checked St Louis, Kansas City, Des Moines, Chicago, Wichita, and Omaha and none of them are accepting infopass/walk-ins either.

You need to call USCIS to make an infopass appointment. They will take care of which field office you need to go to.

You should be able to schedule an appointment at https://my.uscis.gov/en/appointment/us but as we're discovering, that's not possible.

I'll give them a call tomorrow and hopefully they can figure it out.

What was the last movement on your case? Any updates after the RFE? Did you have biometrics, applied for N-400?

Last movement on my case was 7/16 when I had my biometrics, but looking at the USCIS websites the last update was Feb 20, 2018, "Application received."

So, when you guys say that the extension  letter expires in September what it means?

Does it mean that extension letter begins after the green card expires or starts when you received it?

The extension begins the date the green card expires, so if you card expired Mar 18 then the 18mo extension is up this September.

You still have permanent resident status, you just won't have the evidence of it. I believe the process is to call the main USCIS number when you have < 30 days remaining and ask for appointment, and they will then call you back to schedule an appointment. YMMV on where that appt is though.

Pretty sure we're required to have proof of status on us at all times, especially in the current climate. Without the card and extension letter, we need the stamp. I looked into getting an appointment at my local USCIS field office because I'm coming up on that <30 days and wanted to be prepared, but apparently no field offices within 5 states of me accept either InfoPass appointments or walk-ins 😕 I'll give the USCIS a call this week though to see ####### we're supposed to do in these circumstances.

Heh Tween what are we supposed to do if we don't get approved before September and can't get an infopass appointment.

    ::shrug::

  5. So I'm still stuck on Your Case Was Received / we can't provide an update at this time. Did biometrics on 7/16 but no update since. My 18mo extension runs out in September, and my USCIS field office doesn't accept InfoPass appointments or walk-ins for an I-551 stamp.

According to the https://egov.uscis.gov/processing-times/ site, I can't submit an "outside normal processing time" enquiry unless my case was filed prior to Dec 18, 2017.

I'm going to have to make phone calls, aren't I? 😑

Is there anyone waiting for the approval with the status "At this time USCIS cannot provide you with information for your case. Please contact the USCIS Contact Center at 1-800-375-5283 for additional information." on the old site and "Case Received" on the new website?? I'm little worried whereas majorities of CA applicants have been approved.

I'm in that exact position. Not heard about fingerprints/biometrics or anything :/

Good news is that you are not alone. I haven't received any Biometric appointment, not even "Reuse it" notice. I get the message like "USCIS does not recognize your case number..." something like this on the original website. New one says the "Case was received" on feb 24 2018. No change at all.

I called the customer service about like one month ago, and they told me that they can see my case there. I'm not sure how reliable they are, but what can I do?

I'm in the same boat. Got my 18m extension but nothing about biometrics and nothing beyond "Your case was received" at myaccount.uscis.dhs.gov. Through the app I just get "Case Status" and "We are unable to provide an update" messages. I've entered and left the country several times on the 18m extension letter and never had any trouble tho.

Everything that’s going on is so ridiculous. My drivers license expires next month and when I went in to renew it today, they were only going to extend it for another 6 months but said I had to still pay $36 (just the DL not the Real ID). It wouldve been nice if they let us have the10 year DL so there’s at least one less thing for us to worry about 😖.

Hey at least you got one. I've spent more time than I care to count in the DMV and every time they promised if I came back with just one more piece of paperwork, they'd let me do my test. I'm still waiting 🙄Even had them call up to the head office in IL and still got knocked back. I've owned a car for three years that I can't drive.

I actually did contact them and created the ticket and reference number for that. USCIS just sent me the letter afterwards basically saying that I had just to wait. Nothing has happened since then.

I'm in the exact same boat, no letter and when I queried it they opened a case and closed it basically saying "nothing to see here, we'll contact you when we're ready." And so we wait :D

My wife is going to file for citizenship as soon as she gets the 10 year GC. She'll maintain dual citizenship in case we ever want to move to the UK. As a same-sex couple in the current atmosphere, we both want to be done with the immigration system.

Heh we're in the exact same boat (I'm the English wife!) but I didn't think we could get dual citizenship because the US requires you renounce all other citizenships to be naturalised? I'd be fine being dual but I've no intention of getting naturalised as American because we intend to move back to the UK once the kids have flown the nest.

  11. I came in on my expired green card and 18m extension letter via Philly earlier this week. The expired card doesn't work with the machines so I got to jump the queue and go straight to an agent (woop!). She was training a new agent so I listened in as she explained the process for dealing with an expired GC and extension letter. Basically they're to look the letter over and if they think it's legit, they stamp us in. If they aren't sure, "send them back." I about died but I think in the end that meant send the traveller for secondary screening where someone else will take more time looking into the letter. She said to the other agent "we send them back all day long" like it wasn't a big deal and just what she should do if she ever wasn't sure of anything. So there's probably a fair chance of additional scrutiny (at least at PHL) if you have a less experienced agent. However she looked my letter over very quickly front and back and stamped me in in less than 5 minutes.

We're not a same-sex marriage, but we're in the same boat with you in regards to biometrics. As starsky noted, we're all kind of within a same time frame for this situation. We've called a couple times, got the "we have no updates at the time", site reflects the same, "it takes as long as it takes", etc., etc. We didn't hear anything until we got the 18 month notice, which I am taking as a good sign.

    Thanks! Good luck! :)

(speaking from our experience only) We're also a same-sex couple and we haven't had any issues.  Just the same waiting times like everyone else.  At the interviews and biometrics along the way, the USCIS staff have always been professional and treated us with the same respect as everyone else.  Good luck.

Yeah I've never had a problem with the individuals I've spoken to along the way, just a bit of paranoia setting in about The System. Especially as my local office is based in... *shudder*... Missouri.

We're a same-sex couple also. Our I-129F took longer to get approved then other people's that filed the same time that we did (we filed that way back in November 2014, how time flies!) but who knows why that was. At every other step I've felt we were treated the same as any other couple.

That said, Tween, I do worry...like a lot. We've decided to wait to file the N-400 until after that 10 year GC is in my wife's hand.

Heh I'm sure I'm an outlier here but I have zero intention of ever applying for citizenship so at least I don't have to worry about that :D Good luck with your application!
