  1. I am amazed at how fast the process was. I was hesitant, because I had heard that in New York City the waiting time is much longer. luckily for us it was very fast.

Hi Denisse, I just wanted to ask, basing from your timeline, is Chicago your USCIS field office? Or is it still the NBC?

Our NOA received dates are not that far behind (one day only actually). And the neares field office is San Fernando Valley, although all my NOA's are from NBC. In their processing times it states that they are still processing Feb 2015 filers. When I checked your timeline, I saw Chicago, so I checked, and I saw that Chicago is still processing Jan 2015. But you got your GC earlier. So your case is giving me hope (Although I do know that each case varies).

  2. My EAD/ AP Combo Card, has been mailed. Yey!! I can finally update my SSN card, and apply for my driver's license. The last time I went to the SSS to have my name changed, they told me that they need a card, despite showing them my marriage certificate, and the approval letter of my EAD/AP. I already have an old SSN number which I showed her as well... Hopefully it will arrive soon. Unfortunately still waiting for updates for my AOS. And the perennial waiting continues...

  3. You can try calling vital checks, they have options as to what county your marriage certificate was filed depending on where you got married. The processing times are stated in their website. You can check it here: http://www.cdph.ca.gov/certlic/birthdeathmar/Pages/ProcessingTimes.aspx

BTW, our marriage certificate is deemed confidential thus it was filed in the Los Angeles County Clerk Office. That's the number I called. I checked your timeline, you're still in your 3rd week, just a few more weeks. Good luck

  4. 9 weeks? Crazy! Our problem was that we didn't immediately file a request for a copy. I've tried EVERY number at EVERY office but no one picks up the phone so I have no way to ask if they already filed our certificate. We got married in the Beverly Hills Courthouse and because they don't issue copies of the certificate, we have no idea where they filed it so today we're going to one of the offices that issues a copy. It's ridiculous that we have to make this 45 min trip for just an inquiry. I'm so frustrated.

In California they wouldn't give you a filed copy right away, unlike in other States, even if you got married in the Courthouse. You would still have to wait for 6-8 weeks until it's mailed to you. Have you not tried the Los Angeles County Clerk Office under Marriage Records? Because that's the only number I've called.

Did you not have the photocopy of your marriage certificate? The place where you got married should've given one to you. We got married in a Los Angeles wedding chapel, and they were the ones who told us that we could file using the souvenir copy they gave us. Although we still waited until 5 weeks.

From what the notary clerk told us, marriage certificates are brought to the LA county clerk for filing. But, it takes time as they collect all the marriage certificates, then everything's sent to another department. And then again sent to another department until it is mailed to you. The estimate is about 6-8 weeks but there are some who got their certificates in 2-4 weeks. I guess I was unlucky. Try calling first, in the morning. What the registrar told me was that even if you personally tried to collect your marriage certificate,if it's still not filed then you won't be able to get it. How many weeks has it been?

  5. Hello everyone. Here's my story regarding this process of applying AED and AP. I applied for ADjustment of Status with AED and AP. I came here in states through K1 visa. I arrived here in states last March and then few weeks later I got married. I gather all the documents needed for my application. I'm done my biometrics after a month I received a RFE from My Adjustment of Status application then submitted my response. Due to RFE my EAD and AP was pending. 2 weeks after they received my response to my RFE for AOS they updated my status in EAD and AP asking for RFE due to the discrepancy of my Married Name on the application form from those SErvice record( passport, k1visa, I-94) Reflecting my Maiden Name. I filled up the AED and AP using my husband last name as the instruction I have the right to take my husband last name since we are married. I also filled up the section where the other name used stating my Maiden name which appear on my passport, K1 visa and I-94. I came here in states as single in marital status. I applied this Application with my marriage certificate so they have basis where I got my last name as change name base on marriage. I don't understand why they take so much time to ask for RFE and why they can't use the marriage certificate as basis of change name. I'm organizing other document which is more copies for marriage certificate, SSN with my Married Last name on it, Bank account using my husband last name. Wedding pictures and cover letter with explanation why I use my HUsband last name in this application.

Kindly give me more information with regards to other additional supporting document.

    Hopefully it works.

    Thank you

Does your marriage certificate reflect your name change? Did you file your AOS, EAD, AP in the exact same name as reflected on the name change in your marriage certificate? There was a case here in Visa Journey as well, wherein the couple submitted their AOS, EAD, AP in he wife's married name and they received an RFE because in the marriage certificate for the final name, the wife's name was in her maiden name. If your case is not the same, then disregard my comment and maybe you can call USCIS for further clarification. But if it's the similar, maybe try backreading the other threads.

  6. It's okay if your SSN is in your maiden name. I haven't changed it to my married name yet since acquiring it a few weeks after arrival here. What we did was, my husband added me as a dependent in his medical insurance. I was also added in his car insurance, and in the lease to the flat. We applied at Bank of America, and all we presented was the cover letter of the medical insurance and car insurance with his and my name and our address in it. My SSN card in my maiden name. Our marriage certificate (to provide evidence of the name change), and my passport. Before this, we were turned away by Chase as I didn't have an address with my name on it, plus our marriage certificate was just the souvenir copy. So we had to wait until we had more evidence. They also asked for documents proving that I am legal alien, and we just showed them our NOA of the AOS as my EAD wasn't approved that time yet.

  7. Hello! Has anyone here gotten married in Los Angeles? How long did it take for a copy of your marriage certificate to be available? I've called all of the registrar's office and checked their website but there is no info on the standard waiting time. Tried requesting online but it doesn't seem to process requests that are less than 45 days old. Is there no other way to check than personally going to the offices? It's a bit of a trip for us and a super inconvenient way no? frown emoticon Any advise?

I got mine after 9 weeks via mail. It was filed in LA County Clerk in Norwalk. I submitted the unfiled photocopy (souvenir copy) of the marriage certificate when we filed for AOS, EAD, AP since we were already on the end of the 5th week waiting for the filed one. I didn't want to be out-of-status. As long as you get the the filed marriage certificate before your interview. Otherwise, you can try calling the county where your marriage was filed and asked if you can personally get a certified copy. It's 15USD extra. They will inform you if they have a record(this means it has been filed/registered in their books but is just waiting to be mailed which can take upto weeks thus they give the 6-8 weeks time frame).

  8. My husband got his AP & EAD a week ago. I'd love for him to get a job, but it's pretty impossible without him having a license or a car. (There isn't anything within walking distance & public transit is awful here.) does he have to wait for his temporary green card to get his license? What about his GED? That's another thing I'm confused about. Any help would be welcome. Thanks.

Better check with your State's DMV. My husband didn't, and scheduled me to take the exam. When we got there, we just showed the NOA1(receipt) acknowledgement of my AOS, EAD, AP and passport. The personnel told us that we were not qualified as my visa had expired(3 months from date of entry). Long facepalm!! Even if we explained it to them that I am adjusting from a K1 visa yada, yada, yada. They did explain to us that they need a document stating until when I am legally allowed to stay in the US (visa or The EAD). This is for the state of California by the way. :)

  9. Congrats!!! Finally you got your Bio appt. Happy to hear. I don't know if they just start working on your AOS now. Hopefully not. Mine wasn't updated since they got it. Bio suppose to be for only AOS and EAD. No worries. Good luck!

Thanks PishiPishi. Just learned about it(AP doesn't need biometrics)yesterday. Unfortunately,San Fernando Valley Office is behind by about 4-5 months. Nevertheless I am still hoping that they have started my papers. Hope everyhing's fine at your end as well :)

  10. New Infopass slots open daily, so check every few hours and you should get one in a day or two with luck.

Alleluia, my biometrics appointment just arrived and am scheduled for next week. My biometrics appointment letter only states that this is for my AOS and EAD, when I applied for all 3. Is this normal? Or should I also inform USCIS who will take my biometrics that I also applied for AP? Furthermore, does this mean that my AOS application will only start to be processed?

  11. 75 days waiting, 2 service requests made. Finally. My biometrics appointment letter has arrived. Scheduled for Friday next week.

Question, does this mean that they are only starting to look at my AOS now?

By the way, my biometrics letter only indicates biometrics for AOS and EAD. But I also applied for AP, should I make another call or just explain to them that I have also applied for AP when I go to my appointment?

  12. I am sorry but I can't give you any advice and answer to your questions. But in my case, I filed my AOS last Sept.25 got my hard copy a week later and on Oct.9 got my biometrics letter and my biometrics is next week. You should have gotten your biometrics letter way before mine..

Thanks. I am kind of aware of it, thus the reason why I filed for the second service request, and the previous rant :) Cheers
