Hmmm.. I guess John and Marlene and Yodrak didn't understand what the others said!
I didn't see anybody here saying that a lawyer is not necessary in ALL situations, but they specified the conditions for this and I completely agree with them!
If you have a simple case and are able to read the guides, FAQ's in this site, you can do it by yourself! But if the foreign fiance had overstayed a visa in the USA, have criminal background, serious diseases or anything that could make the visa to be denied, so look for a lawyer to get advice! Use your common sense! It's just not necessary to get a lawyer that will only fill out forms for you, since you have a little patience to do it!
And another thing... If choose to hire a lawyer, be VERY CAREFUL and check if this professional is really used to deal with these immigration visas... I have a friend that hired one about two months ago, and the "professional" sent the papers to the wrong place.... (it should be sent to Texas and she sent to Michigan... such a gross mistake!)
So, that's it... Think carefully about this and take your own conclusions!

Yes, you can dear!!! As soon as you know your petition is already in Rio, you can already send the forms back! I did this, but by coincidence, I sent the packet 3 back and, when I arrived home, the packet 3 was in my mail! haha I could have gotten my interview date sooner if I had sent before, but I couldn't call them and they took too long to reply my e-mail saying that they already had my papers... *hugs*

Ahhh, just to add: I didn't receive my package 4 so far... They said they sent it in the week of June 5th... So, it got lost for sure!
Anyway, I e-mailed them and they sent me all the instructions and the forms by e-mail... So, no problems with this!

Fui não, amiga... Liguei lá e consegui falar com uma pessoa direto no Departamento de Antecedentes Criminais... Mas a moça me disse que eles ainda estavam em greve e que "talvez" voltem a trabalhar na segunda, e também que não haveriam exceções para o meu caso, mesmo eu tendo explicado sobre a urgência...
De qualquer forma, o Consulado do Rio respondeu ao meu e-mail e disse que eu devo ir à entrevista normalmente, porque eles vão me orientar sobre como mandar o atestado depois (pelo que entendi, meu visto vai mesmo ficar pendente até eu enviar)...
Eu só espero que eles voltem logo, porque senão o meu visto irá demorar para sair e eu teria que adiar a minha ida... Era só o que me faltava...

Nossa, eu peguei o meu semana passada, aqui por Rondonia mesmo. Levou dois dias pra ficar pronto.
Deve resolver tudo rapidinho com a greve, senão tenta no Rio.
Vixe, amiga... Será que daria para pegar pelo Rio?? De qualquer forma, se for no mesmo esquema que é aqui em São Paulo, seria impossível, porque eu teria que passar uns 15 dias no Rio para isso! haha
Meu... Aqui, o certificado de antecedentes regional pode ser até emitido pela internet na hora... Mas o nacional só indo pessoalmente até a Polícia Federal e demora de 10 a 15 dias! Ninguém merece!

Então, eu fiquei sabendo a data da minha entrevista porque, no mesmo dia que coloquei o pacote 3 no correio para eles, eu também mandei uns dois e-mails perguntando a data da minha entrevista (já contando que eles demorariam váááários dias para responder).... Eles responderam ao primeiro três dias depois, pedindo para que eu aguardasse, que eles ainda não tinham a data.... E o outro, dez dias ÚTEIS se passaram e nada de resposta! Então, eu mandei outro e-mail dizendo que eles não tinham respondido a este anterior e, educadamente, perguntando novamente... E não é que eles me responderam a esse 15 minutos depois, dizendo a data da entrevista?
Mas enfim, responderam....rsrs Eu fiquei sabendo que tem gente que dá ainda mais sorte e eles dizem a data da entrevista em uma semana, mais ou menos!
Se você não achar muito caro, você também pode ligar para eles umas duas semanas depois de enviar o pacote 3... Bom, são cerca de 40 minutos de espera, portanto, eu acho muito caro! rsrsrs

Hello, folks!
I went to Polícia Federal in São Paulo today to ask for my Atestado de Antecedentes Criminais and got surprised... They are paralized, asking for salary improvement!
I've read in Jornal O Globo that their last paralization was in 2004 and they stayed 2 months paralized! In case they take long to start working again, how will I do in relation to my interview? I e-mailed Rio Consulate asking, but they didn't reply yet... Anyone knows about it?
I'm getting panicked...

I DO have myspace and I think it's just another way to have fun and keep in touch with friends that are far away! Since you are attempted to the dangers that ANY website like this can represent and teach your teenagers about this, it's such a nice thing... Never had problems!

The thing is: if you didn't make the minnimun income during all the year, yes...
So, you'd better go find a sponsor... Or else they would probably reeschedule your interview AGAIN for you to have avaiable time to find one!

WE'VE BEEN FORWARDED TO PARIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They sent it out yesterday! I called this morning (paranoid as I am) and it was sent yesterday. I confessed my undying love for the woman on theother end of the line at NVC lol. GOOD LUCK to everyone still waiting.
Congratulations!! If you want to make things faster, contact your embassy within few days to see if they received your papers and if you can send the package 3 before you receive it at home.. Well, at least here in Brazil we can....hehe

I agree that visajourney has a lot of tales... But it's not the case here and it doesn't mean people can't use the common sense! The conditions are perfectly clear and only the person can analyze if a lawyer is or is not necessary! In general, it's not! Or else 75% of the people here would hire a lawyer too! So, keep thinking carefully! A lawyer can be a good investiment, or just a waste of money...
