  1. Drove to Memphis for our interview.  Pretty straightforward.  Focused on what your application says, so know how to explain any inconsistencies.  The interviewer bounced around between application and the Yes/No questions that they must ask and confirm.  My wife felt like they were looking for how confident you explained things and your command of english.  Took about 25 minutes.  She passed on the spot and received notification of a pending date for the Oath.

Five years of paying taxes and being a good citizen.  Thousands of dollars in fees.  Hundreds of hours collecting documents, filling out forms and preparing.  Many late nights studying language and preparing.  Days and months waiting.  Something everyone in this VJ community knows well.

As an USC I have gained a real appreciation for the immigrants who follow the rule of law and do it correctly.  US Citizenship is a valuable thing and should not be handed out to people who break the law.  It is an injustice and a slap in the face to those who earned it the hard way.  As such I urge all new members to the US family to exercise their right to vote their conscience and bear in mind to support those in office who represent what they worked so hard to get.

  2. My stepson had an expired GC and 18 month letter.  In the UA transit booth in Hong Kong on our return we had issues with the agent not being familiar with the documents.  Needed to ask Supervisor before getting a boarding pass on UA HKG-SFO flight.  Upon arrival in San Francisco we were inspected by the agent and sent to secondary inspection.  In secondary inspection we handed the agent the paperwork and 20 minutes later were passed through.  Many of the agents were a little dour since this was in the middle of the government shutdown and they seemed less friendly than usual having not been paid.

Given this experience we are considering letting my stepson (mature 14 yr) travel to Vietnam  for the summer.  To avoid getting pulled out of line we are considering getting an Infopass appointment to get a I-551 stamp in his passport.  I would appreciate everyones thoughts on this?

Is the I-551 easier to pass than expired GC+letter ?  We are thinking an I-551 in the passport is better since he would have to carry 3 items and runs the risk of losing or misplacing one.  Thoughts?

  3. Has been one year since NOA1 and so we scheduled an InfoPass.  We have a satellite location in Nashville but its always full.  No issue getting an InfoPass appointment in Memphis only days ahead of time.  We took most of the day spending 4 hours driving there, 45 minutes waiting, 10 minutes in the InfoPass, and 4 hours home.

Results are a 1 year extension stamp I-551.  They did not take the Green Card or anything.  Very easy.  Was informed that they did a preliminary review early on (likely for easy RFE for missing items) and we are scheduled in the endless cue in California for an officer review.  All in all a good day.  Given our situation the I-551 makes me more comfortable knowing they messed up the dates on the Green Card.

    Good Luck to All.

  4. Please update us. We called on Dec 15th to request a service request. We were told they could not do that until 30 days had passed on our application which was Sunday Dec 18th

We placed a call and registered a service request on Dec 19th.

We left for Christmas Vacation and returned today to find a letter from USCIS is our mailbox with a Dec 19th postmark. It had our Biometrics letter in it dated Nov 19th. Guess it got lost?

Add us to Biometrics for 01/09/17.

  5. Kyle and Linh,

With your AOS completion date of Feb 2016, how is it possible that you're already at ROC 10 months after? What am I missing? LOL

You are not missing anything. The government fat fingered her Green Card and all dates moved up a year.

We have talked to a few other Vj'ers who had this happen and they said it is a nightmare to try to correct. One in fact spent 4 or 5 meetings with the government only to have them not change it. The advice has been is to take it and play through. Further evidence on doing this came in October when my wife received a letter from USCIS telling her if she did not file ROC by February 2017 she will be in violation and will need to be removed. So we are playing on.

It's stuff like this and I-94 issues she had (two times) that really makes me wonder about our governments ability to vet ISIS bad guys. It makes me also wonder about the governments ability on security on medical stuff under Obamacare.

The saying goes "you can't fight City Hall" so we aren't and will muddle on through and see what happens.

  6. Add us on your list

    Date I-751 Sent: 11/16/2016

Date I-751 Received in California: 11/18/2016

    Date Check Cashed: 11/22/2016

    Date on I-751 Reciept Notice (I-797): 11/18/2016

    Further details to follow

    Updated.

We need the exact date you filed. ;)

    Added.

Good luck trying to trace the USPS money order! LOL The good news is, you don't have to worry. I used the same method, and it was cashed the same day my petition got delivered at CSC. Meanwhile the USPS system still doesn't say anything about it, so yes, it's useless to say the least.

  7. Ladies and Gentelmen,

I have a good news to share.. Just received an update on I-485 Receipt: New Card is Being Produced.

There is hope dear fellow visajourney members. Thank you all for your support and sharing of knowledge.

    Stay Blessed Everyone.

    Kind regards,

    ConiMoni

    Congratulations ConiMoni

I have been tracking your journey. We have seemed to be moving at a similar pace with our K2 applications for AOS/EAD/AP.

Like your posts our AOS came "alive" on USCIS.GOV about the same time yours did and others.

Like you we have had no notice for an interview. I hope we follow your good fortune in the next 10 days.

    Good Luck.

  8. Thank You for your information. My step son was a K-2 to follow and entered the country in March 2016. His mother entered in October of 2015 and we were married in November 2015 and she got approval for AOS in 62 days with no interview.

My stepson has approvals for AP and EAD as of a few days ago. We have had no word on his AOS/GC application with the "Check Case" on USCIS.GOV being down and giving you the "Gray Screen of Death" when there is no information.

Given your scenario with your daughters you described above, did you get a sense that they were testing you for human trafficking? Did your daughters share your or their mother's last name? Given your daughters ages and that they arrived later, it seems to me all the USCIS could think of was human trafficking.

After reading all the advice I can on VJ, I suspect my son will get an interview to check him out since his last name is the same as his biological father and different from my wife's last name (her family name) as is Vietnamese tradition. I suspect they too will question him and us on the line of human trafficking since we are dealing with 3 different last names and 2 different K1/2 entry dates.

If you could, could you list some specific questions that were made in each interview. It may be helpful to my stepson and others who may have to follow in this path.

  9. Hi-

We filed my wife's AOS on Sept/2015 and my step children on March/2016. My wife received her 2 year GC this pass May/2016 and kids received their EAD&AP last month. I just recently saw that one of the kid's status went from Case Was Received to "Case is Ready To be Scheduled For An Interview". But I'm a bit confusion as to why would my daughter get an interview who is only 14 and my wife didn't have too. Has any ever experienced this? Is this normal? If so, how do you prepare for an interview for a minor. What short of questions do they ask? What evidence do we bring? Thanks in advance.

We are also working on a K-2 for our 12 year old son.

My wife got her AOS/GC approved in just 62 days in February 2016. They denied her AP/EAD since they were not needed. No interviews were made.

Our son is a different story. Continued inability to use the "Check Case" on USCIS.GOV has made things worse in checking what is going on. I recently checked last week and noticed on July 13 his Check Case did not give me the "Gray Screen of Death" and he was approved for AP/EAD. We received no emails as we did on NOA1. Later checking has stated his AP/EAD card is being mailed.

On his AOS/Green Card application we still get the Gray Screen with NO information. Since the K-2 visa is directly tied to the K-1 visa, my assumption is for non teen aged children this would be a mere formality in issuing the GC. Apparently not.

Thanks for the update on your K-2. I agree having an interview for a K-2 visa seems to be a waste of taxpayer money and resources with immigration that needs to be placed elsewhere given the recent state of events in the world.

  10. Random Update on K2 for our son.

Check status at USCIS.gov not working until this last week. On July 13 it started working and notified us of approval for AP and EAD. There were no email notifications at all on this. This is really bizarre since our K1 took only 62 days and completely skipped approval of AP and EAD for my wife.

On July 15 the EAD receipt number notified us that a card is being send. Still no email notification like our NOA1. We assume that "The Card" will be a combo card of AP and EAD. Sorry to say my 12 year old son has a card to work, (LOL USA Sweatshops) but we filed it so now we can apply for his Social Security Number. The EAD is really useless to him otherwise

We are still hanging in there to see what will happen on the Green Card/AOS application. The Check Status on that still gives the "Gray Screen of Death" with no information.

Good Luck to all. Things seem to be moving for April filers.

  11. Got a call back from USCIS this morning at 6 am (they were suppose to call me yesterday). I had the officer check in my EAD and she said that that the case was approved and is in production! AMAZING news. Over the moon. I am still not able to check the case online though, did others have this problem? I'm just hoping that this officer was right! Based on others' timelines it looks like it should be here within a week. There is hope y'all!

Like you we are having online issues to see the progress of anything we have filed. Good news for you however. Wait for a week and see if the online does any update that you can share with the rest of us (that it works now).

I am noticing more approvals around our receipt numbers (or that they work). I think they are switching websites or processes and are not fixing the ones in limbo until something happens.

    Good Luck on the AOS

  12. Day 61 for us since NOA.. No updates as yet apart from the biometric on May 10.. Even the Online case status does not work for us as we are always getting validation errors.. I really wish we could get some form of visibility for our applications..We are hopeful that we might receive some form of good news in the next 2 weeks as we reach our 75 day mark.. If no news by day 75, i guess we will have to put in a service request to inquire about the status...

Will wait for fellow visajourney members to chime in their thoughts on this blind yet patient hope of this process..

    ConiMoni:

We are in the same situation with our K-2 visa for our son who followed 5 months after my wife entered. Having gone through the process for K-1, it went extremely fast and the USCIS.GOV site worked well in providing updates. I am annoyed at not getting updates on line this time.

I guess the good news this time is that time is not critical for us since it only prevents us from getting a Social Security number and being able to travel out of the country on short notice

    Good Luck Coni Moni

  13. nope, nothing

    i already stopped even checking

i mean i used to check my bank acount every time i had time to do that, now i only do it in the morning and in the evening

i am just waiting for this week to pass so that i can call them and "notify uscis" that i haven't heard from them for 30 days since i filed

i thought you had some updates, such as cashed checks of emails, haven't you?

Hey something is going on with mine too so I am happy to see there are issues on getting case numbers and acceptance of packages for AOS. (Not good but its not just our package)

I am filing a K2 for my stepson and I mailed the package to Chicago on Monday April 11th and showed it delivered by Fed Ex on April 12th

Yesterday Tuesday April 26th I got 3 case numbers via text. Check cleared the bank today April 27th. This is much too much later than my AOS NOA1 for K1 experience earlier this year for my wife

I still can not use the Receipt numbers online to check status

What is going on with Chicago Lock Box??????

  14. Congrats! You have been "hit by lightning too"

In a few days you will see it change to "Card has been Shipped".

The cards are mailed via USPS 2nd day. 2 Days later you will get a notice that it has delivered with a link to the tracking number with USPS.

Our AP is still hanging out there. Our EAD was denied... that was the first notice I read and about died until I saw that the GC was being made.

Like our situation, no "Approval" notice was provided on AOS. We may still get the formal action in the mail.

We can now plan our life and freely go back to Vietnam to get my wife's son.
