  1. I am also a late November 2016 filer...  The only notification that I have ever received besides the February glitch was the notification that my case was transferred to NBC "in order to speed up processing" becasue I filed for N-400, and that notification was sent in May... I contacted USCIS inquring the status and they said the reason my N-400 is delayed is because my I-751 hasn't been approved yet. This is very frustrating! I wrote to my state senators for help and so far haven't received any responses from any of them either. I am only a few days away from submitting outside of normal processing time inquiry so I guess I will do that to see what happens. Anyone has other advises about what else I should do at this point? Highly appreciated.

  2. Hi. I am a San Francisco N400 filer. Upon reading some forum posts, I realized that San Francisco only does administrative ceremonies and therefore those who desire to change their names must file through court beforehand. I wanted to confirm a few things before I go ahead and start my name change process:

    1. My estimated case completion time is in November 2018. I wanted to confirm if it would create any problems if I change my name right now as I am probably still under the background check process (?). I am not planning to change my identifications such as driver license, SSN card under my new name until I receive the citizenship, just to prevent any hassles. Would this be OK? Can it cause any delays in my interview time by doing this? I still hope my case can be completed in or before November 2018.
    2. What kind of identifications do you need when you go to the court and file the name change application? My 2-year conditional green has expired and I did not get a I-551 stamp because I do not plan on traveling abroad until I receive my citizenship. Should I get a I-551 stamp before I go to court and file?
    3. I've searched everywhere and I could not locate a payment method for filing the name change application. Would credit card suffice?

Thank you all so much for reading this post. Look forward to hearing your thoughts!

  3. @shomer I never said it was a requirement. It only seems common that that's what they do to change people's status to in-line for interview upon GC anniversary date. Just wanted to gather people's relevant experiences here on the forum. And regardless same to everyone else or whatnot, all I wanted to do was to shout out how I felt.

@YecaCruz Thank you for the manual!

  4. Greetings. I filed my N400 in November 2017 based upon the three-year spouse criteria in light of not hearing anything for a year in regards to the removal condition that I filed in November 2016. Now it is more than a month past my three-year GC anniversary, my status still has not changed to in-line for interview... It still stuck on the biometrics received and USCIS is actively reviewing your case... The estimated completion time for the case did move from December 2018 to November 2018 though. Can I call USCIS to inquire about the status? I really wanted to get the citizenship ASAP in order to travel abroad with an US passport. Sigh. What's everyone's experience regarding this? Inputs would be appreciated. Thank you so much!

San Francisco filer here. Filed in June.  No interview scheduled yet (in line since September 13th). So looks that this is going to take a minimum of 10 months up to a year. Even if these guys would send me the letter for an appointment  next week, this date would be for the end of March. Then, after the interview I would have to wait one more month at least for the scheduling of the Patriot ceremony in Oakland. In my case, I am moving out of the country in a month so the only option, if you need to leave, is to change the address to someone you know and prepare some extra cash for flying back twice once they decide to "work" in your application.

Oh wow... I can't believe it... I guess there are just too many applicants in the metropolis... I'll need to delay or cancel my plans to travel overseas then. I really wanted to have the U.S. passport in hand in order to travel. Sigh. I hope there's something I can do to make this whole process faster =(

  6. Thank you all for the replies. I guess the processing time varies depending on different field offices. It seems San Francisco has a slower processing time compared to others, which is unfortunate. I am still hoping miracle would happen that I can get the citizenship prior to this coming July.

I filed online. I think most of the applicants nowadays apply online so it no longer makes a difference in terms of the processing speed.

    Thank you all again!

  7. I filed my N400 back in November 2017. I know it hasn't been that long compared to some in the forum, but I really am eager to get in line for interview and get the citizenship as soon as possible. So I logged on to my portal and find the estimated case completion time says December 2018 (10 months)! That is just the way too long... I was really hoping to get the citizenship prior to July 2018. Is there a possibility that the estimated time can be wrong and I can complete my case much sooner? I am a San Francisco filer. Thank you so much!

  8. Greetings all. I submitted my N-400 application in November 2017 based upon the 3-year rule in light of my I-751 removal of conditions application had no progress. My conditional permanent resident card's 3-year anniversary will be next month on the 17th. I read some posts in the forum and many filers indicated that they have been placed in line for interview on the date which is one month away from their anniversary. Today is already the 22nd and is a few days past the 17th date, but I haven't received any notification regarding a update. Should I be worried? Thank you so much for your help!

  9. Greetings All.  I have just filed N-400 based upon the three-year spouse ruling in November 2017, thinking that would make the removal of conditions I-751 faster as I haven't heard anything since I filed it in November 2016. Now my husband is undergoing some emotional instabilities and is seeking separation or even divorce abandoning all our memories in the past years... I've been trying my very, very best to restore and fix our relationship but in case things don't work out, my question would be:

    • Would going into separation while the application is pending jeopardize my I-751 application? I understand going into either separation or divorce would make the N-400 citizenship application out of question as I would no longer qualify for the three-year spouse rule. Now I just wanted to at least secure my I-751 and get my 10-year green card for now.

I honestly regret filing my N-400 that fast but during that point of time we were happy little birds. Who would have known things could go downslope this quickly... Please provide me with some directions. Thank you all very much!

  10. Thank you, @Going through !I

@usdreamer I just uploaded whatever was required on the N-400 paper application instruction + some other evidences that I think would be helpful since I was filing under the 3-year spouse rule (e.g. joint bank statements, house lease, joint insurance, etc.). I didn't number them but I made sure to named the files according to what they are. I did upload a cover letter just in case.

  11. Greetings. I was in the process of trying to upload some required files to my N-400 online application... I thought I uploaded the wrong file so I deleted it and re-upload. When I finished upload, the previous file that I uploaded was still there along with the one I newly uploaded. So I tried deleting them all, save my progress and log out to start over. But when I logged back in, all those files including both old and new are still there! Is this some kind of system glitch? Would it be OK if I just leave them as the way they are since the system won't let me delete them? Please advice. Thank you!

  12. Greetings. My husband received his US citizenship through his parents before he turned 18. We are not sure what to provide besides his US passport to prove his US citizenship for my N-400 submission, as he doesn't have a naturalization certificate. He also can't recall the date he became a US citizen as it happened when he was a kid. Would passport biographic page suffice? Thank you all in advance.

  13. Greetings. I mailed out my I-751 request yesterday and I just realized there were two mistakes with the affidavits... First, my mother-in-law didn't put her birthplace and birth date on her affidavit. Second, I sent out a copy instead of an original affidavit that was written by my sister-in-law because the original letter was lost in the mailing process. After reading the instructions carefully (which I should have done...), birthplace and birth date are mandatory and originals should be filed instead of a copy for affidavits. Do those really matter? Will I get a RFE? I've heard the processing time with removing conditions have been very slow recently. Hopefully this won't delay the process... I'm so nervous... Please help. Thank you all in advance!

  14. Hi there! I recently just obtained my 2-year conditional green card. I'm thinking to make my nickname as my new first name, move my current first name to middle and replace my maiden name with my husband's last name. I did some research and am aware the whole legal change of name process may take up to 6 months and it's mandatory to request a green card replacement after I change my name. I'm just wondering how immediate I should request a green card replacement if I decide to change my name this year? Can I wait until a couple months prior to my current conditional one expires? And when I request for my green card replacement, should I fill out both I-751 & I-90 since I would be requesting both conditions removal and an update to my legal name info?

  15. You cannot get a US passport without proving you are a USC. The US passport is issued by the Department of State. Unless the USCIS can prove the Deptment of State screwed up in issuing your husband's US passport it is valid proof that he is a USC. Take it along to the interview. Our AOS interview was 10 mintues long and consisted of my wife answering all the questons on the form. If there was an issue with the proof of his citizenship, you would have received and RFE long before the interview was scheduled.

    Good luck,

    Dave

That is so good to know! I was so worried cause I heard a Citizenship and Naturalization Certificate costs a couple hundred dollars and its production time can be months... Thank you so much Dave :)

  16. My interview is scheduled next month and I have question regarding proof of U.S. citizenship of my spouse. He immigrated to the U.S. with his parents when he was very little and his parents got their citizenship through naturalization process. His parents don't remember if he had a Citizenship and Naturalization Certificate since it's been too many decades... So we only turned in his U.S. passport biographic page as a proof of his U.S. citizenship when we submitted the initial paperwork. I'm just wondering if it's OK to attend the interview without a Citizenship and Naturalization Certificate and simply bring the original U.S. passport for his proof of U.S. citizenship.

  17. Greetings everyone. I've filed my AOS around two months ago and had my fingerprints collected in a local ASC. While now my I-485 and I-130 are still in the "Fingerprint fee received" and "Case Received" statues, I had my I-765 expedited per my employer's request. So the problem is here... I received a couple notices saying that my I-765 expedite request was approved and it actually became the "Card Production" status on 12/15/2014. However, this morning it changed to this "Post Decision Activity" status and says "On 12/18/2014 we reopened your Form I765". I'm so scared... I'll lose my job opportunity without getting this card within the next two weeks. I called USCIS this morning and spoke to a tier 2 officer, and she said the online system is very inconsistent and it can jump to a different status in a couple hours or in a couple days, so there's nothing she could do for me at this point. I'm just very worried... Does anyone have a similar situation? What should I do? Please advice
