  1. We had 1 wedding, it is possible to have a proper wedding put together in 90 days ....well when u formerly owned a bridal shop and know the planning thing like the back of your hand....and when you know you want a small fun less formal wedding...its a lot easier :)

I am posting the wedding details in my profile....

  2. http://www.uscis.gov/graphics/formsfee/forms/index.htm

    I-129F $170

Medical Exam $185 (Panel physicians in toronto, $275 if you ae in windsor)

    Passport $ 87

RCMP lettter $ 25 (you wont need this until you are approved and your petition goes to Montreal)

Visa $100 (this is what you pay for at the consulate when you go for your interview, after you are approved and they send you a letter explainging about the medical, RCMP check and other evidence you need. You only need to go to Montreal once, and no they dont do it in Toronto which would be easier)

After you get your visa and you cross over, it costs $6 at the border...cheapest part of the whole thing.

Once you are married you apply to adjust your status $ 325 plus biometrics fee $70 plus Employment Authorization $180 and Travel document if you plan on coming home between the time you cross over and the time you get your status adjusted $170 (remember if you leave the us after activating your visa, you cant come back unless you have advanced parole or your green card

You ae looking at about $1000 not including your travel time to montreal...then $205 in 3 years to lift conditions

all fees are in USD, except passport, rcmp check and medical. It costs some money, but it is broken down a bit and you can save up for each thing in between. Best of luck!!!

I rented a car and drove to Montreal for a lot cheaper than $299, look into that (if you drive) at least then if you are desperate you can drive, get in late, sleep in your car, and be at the consulate first thing!!! Of course gas wasnt over $1 a frikkin litre then yet either!!!

  3. He is k-2, he activated his visa yesterday, and we found out he cant have the SSN today...after going to the SSA office. I dont understand why I was given an SSN without them batting an eyelash, but he cant have one without an EAD. I didnt need one for mine...and he is 15, he isnt going to work and I am not wasting almost $200 for one for nothing, when he will be adjusted in a few months anyways. It just makes no frikkin sense at all.

  4. ya, next time it will be later, although i dont think i will go again until i have my green card (interview next month)

found out he cant have a SSN tho, which sux because the school wants it for him to enroll......hope they take his visa for now....he HAS to go to school!!!!!!!!

  5. My youngest son finally made the move here to Cleveland with me and let me tell you, the border guard who reccomended 'coming thru late at night to avoid waiting' was ooooooooooo soooooooo wrong!

We sat for 2 and a half hours!!! There was no lineups, the waiting room was empty except for one other family BUT...it was the 4th of july, they were shorrt staffed, it was shift change (midnight) and there were about 3 greyhound busses crossig over and only 4 border guards to process everyone. People on the bus were being refused entry, one commercial trucker was being arrested, it was a looong wait. But...he is here with his mommy where he belongs. Now, we go apply for his SSN and get him a freakin haircut and unpack his room.

Question I think i have asked b4, will he have to have an AOS interview or will they grant it based on mine, and if he does have to have one does my husband have to come to it also? His boss gets all cranky when he needs to take time off work which he will for these things.

    Thnx

Now I go get him up and I attempt driving downtown. Hey i've done downtown Toronto, I 've done Montreal, and I've done Sudbury (traffic isnt so bad, but the drivers are worse than anywhere else). I think i can handle cleveland.

    weeeeeeeee

    SSN

I got mine pretty quick, but here is a tip for new brides, if you want to change your name on the SSN after you get it make sure you go before your k-1 expires, I went after and they wont change it because I am 'out of status' So I have to wait until the AOS to have it changed, wish I wouldhave known b4...

  6. I crossed at ft erie/buffalo and they didnt know what to do with my stuff either. When I handed the pkg that said 'do not open' He goes 'wahts this?' and ripped into it. I was like OMFG WHAT ARE YOU DOING!!!

Then he had to call someone else over ask them and he told him to stamp it in a couple different spots and then forward it to the immigration centre (which one he didnt specify). I had to ask if they wanted to see my list of things i was bringing...after they wre all finished and he handed me my passport and stuff back. He didnt even look at the list let alone the uhaul or truck....sheesh

I cross Monday with my son, he is activating his visa for the first time....should be interesting.

Totally off topic....but any of you canucks or canuck-by-marriage dont have any plans on Saturday, come on up to the Maple Grove Tavern, in Maple Heights (cleveland) (www.maplegrovebar.com). Come upstairs, I will be bartending...I wanted to have a Canada day party but my idea was ummm well it wasn't acceptable I guess....who knows, but here is the deal.....since it is Canada day....anyone with Canadian ID....I will buy them a drink! Hows that?

  7. people its easy to get Cheeze wiz here.

Yes, but in tiny little very expensive jars, the cheeze whiz we get in Canada is humungous for close to the same price as the little ones here. actually all dairy products there seem to be larger and less expensive. i cant even find the huge long bricks of cheese that are almost a foot long that i used to buy back home all the time.

But i did google vachon and they have a us division, well a website with pictures that made me drool but no info how or where to get them :(

Im bringing my son here finally next week, so I will be loading up with groceries :)

Last time thru they asked if I had anything I was bringing back, i said ya, a HUGEA$$ jar of cheeze whiz...the girl in the booth cracked up laughing :)

  8. o another thing I cant find here......Vachon treats. The pkg'd treats and cakes and such here is such a limited selection (and not as good as)

Jos. louis, ah caramel and 1/2 moons..............mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

  9. I bought CAA, then bought thier out of country insurance. It was good for 6 months, have to cross over after the 6 months back to canada. I hadn't yet given up my residency when I purchased it... so technically.... LOL

A friend of mine did the same, bought out of country travel insurance at a travel agency, it cost her more than the CAA did tho. plus with CAA, all the benifits are available here, towing, run out of gas, lockout service etc. SO it was a double bonus. Worth a shot.

I havent had any since that expired, hubbys job keeps screwing us around on the benifits, apparently they kick in monday...after a year and a half of waiting for them....oh and check this out, my son comes next monday to live with us, they wont put im on the plan until he arives...its a week FFS.

  10. As far as I know....they only have to come if they are over 14. Mine was 14 and was required to attend as they had to fingerprint him and stuff same as for me. I would double check, but ya, it wouldnt be a lot of fun if its crowded and they are bored and it takes a while.

Now I called the consulate to confirm this and they told me he didnt have to come, because he was just 14, thank god I was suspicious and had read up here first and brought him because it would have meant a second trip, they also told me same day visa...not true, also that they were open saturday if the visa wasnt ready on the friday of my interview that I could get it Saturday, also not true, there was one other thing I cant remember but there were 4 things I asked and i got 4 out of 4 answers from them wrong, so its best to read up on thier website and such first. i mentioned all this to the interviewer, he said they were going to have to have a meeting to retrain staff LOL.

  11. I brought the HUGE a$$ jar of cheese whiz, (all I can find here are dinky little jars) bicks pickles (wayyy crispier than vlassic) robin hood nanaimo bar mix (although if you google the recipe you can make them from scratch), vim cleaner (the blueish liquid ocean fresh kind, it just smells like clean should smell), shreddies, coffee crisp, smarties, crispy crunch, all dressed up ships, and a couple large tins of tims coffee.

O and only bring one copy of your AP. I handed them both copies and they gave me ######, told me that I should leave one behind in case I lose one and i can have someone fed-ex it to me in canada. It took about an hour to process me at the border....the border guy actually told me that if I would cross over late at nght its better because there are less lines ofpeople needing processing. WHen I cross with my son next month (he is activating his visa for the first time) I am crossing after nmidnight, cooler to travel, less traffic and less people at the border.

  12. me and yacine met on the phone :)

My hubby and I also met on the phone; we share a mutual friend (he knew him in person, he was a net friend of mine whom I had never met in person oddly enough) who called me one Christmas eve to wish me merry xmas, then he passed me off to my now hubby for a 'minute' while he helped someone move a tv, lol 45 minutes later he had to hunt my hubby down with his cell phone :) We hit it off so well, we exchanged emails and hone numbers, 2 months later met in person, .....the mutual friend, was our guest of honour at our wedding :)

  13. I have no criminal record and they made me get the whole fingerprint 5 months wait thing. I guess its good to be informed beforehand so you dont get roped into doing somehting u dont need to because the RCMP officer manning the station doesnt know better :/

  14. I never used my passport to trevel across the border with until I used it to activate my visa. All I ever did was hand them my drivers license (photo id) It was always sufficient, I was never questioned further and the situation of my visa never came up. I always answered only the questions asked, dont volunteer more than needed and never had a hassle.

My fiance and I even went to Florida for 2 weeks and my license didnt match my name on the ticket because he bought it in my maiden name and my license still had my former married name on it....I had no hassles, didnt need a passport tho because it wasnt an international flight, I drove to Ohio, then flew to Florida, so we didnt have to clear customs or anything .....

  15. its funny, growing up in northern ontario we always heard how rude people in quebec were, we have our share of english/french rivalries and I fully expected to be treated like ####### when we went to montreal for our visa appt. Thank god my son had to come, years of French immersion were going to be a benifit I was sure....however I was pleasantly surprised by the french people in the service industries attempting to communicate with me in english when it was obvious to them I couldnt (wouldnt) speak french. Every person whom I dealt with initially addressed me in french, and I replied in english, and from there they carried on in english to me, albeit with a very heavy accent, they tried and that impressed me a lot.

I have a lot of resentments left over from years of having french rammed down my throat in school and such, canada being declared a bilingual ccountry etc, yet the french do nothing to actaually be bilingual...its french or nothing there...so ya there is a lot of bitterness left hehehe

As far as hotels, we got into the city well after midnight and I am cheap..I wont pay $100+ per night to sleep for a few hours, so we headed back out about half an hour where there were little motels and such. There was a small one on the side of the road, with a sign advertising rooms $40 or womething like that, so we stayed there. The rooms were cute, and clean, but we opted to sleep on top of the covers with the lights on, because well....there were 100000 spiders in the awning outside the room and spiders are nocturnal so turning the light off was not an option LOL

They had a continental breakfast but we got up and were gone b4 they served it, thank god we did leave that early tho because there was a ton of construction on the highway on the way in so even leavign at 8 to make a 30 minute drive, we got there just in time at 9:30!!!

Our inerview was a friday so we didnt stick around to pick the visa up cuz I coldnt take 2 more nights of spiders LOL It arrived in the mail a week or so later.

  16. and dont forget $100 ...I didnt notice or they didnt put it on any of the info they sent that ther eis a $100 fee per visa, thankfully I had cash on me...I guess I should have known based on reading and re reading forms and fees pages all these years but you would think they would remind you....same with the $6 when u cross the border and activate the visa....I was lucky I had cash on me...I never carry cash! sheesh :)

  17. All of my paperwork for the k-1 was in my maiden name, and when I got here I applied for SSN and got it in my maiden name. I sent in all the paperwork for the AOS, AP and EAD in my maiden name which I began using after we were married. When you send in all the papers you have to send copies of your marriage certificate so it isnt rocket science for them to figure things out, you still have the same A# and case #

When I went to get my drivers license, I took my Ontario license, and marriage certificate and got the new license with my married name (apparently I wasnt supposed to get the license until after AOS but they were screwing everything up so bad and I had to go back so many times, that they eventually erred in my favour LOL).

When I went to go change my name on my SSN, they wouldnt do it either because they said my visa had expired...remember its only good for 6 months from date of issue? Thas why they wont do anything with it.

I will go see about changing it when I go for my AOS interview in 2 months...its in the same building :)

  18. What I wanna know is why are all these fanatics soooooo worried about what *might* happen tomorrow....did the world implode June 6 1906? Did 'satan' visit June 6 1806? Was there a plague of demons June 6 1706? This isnt the first 6-6-6 and it wont be the last. Sheesh

Woe to you Oh Earth and Sea

for the Devil sends the beast with wrath

because he knows the time is short

    Let him who hath understanding

reckon the number of the beast

for it is a human number

its number is six hundred and sixty six.

    :diablo:

  19. how do u know they are illegal?? skin color? loudliness? not being educated? just because?

    (dont get me started)

because they have no respect. They come from a 2 cent nation yet don't even have the common decency to respect others.

Sorry nothing to do with skin colour, race bla bla but more to do with inteligence..

I always think it is a good idea to verify the correct spelling of words in a post, especially when you are referring to the intelligence of another person in a negative fashion.

p.s. she did not refer to any country, they could very well have come from a very economically viable nation, be careful you don't strain something when you jump to conclusions like that :)

  20. never listen to 3rd hand experences. Most of the time people dont know the full detaails, hell I dont even tell people the full details of my process, so if they were relaying the story they wouldnt have half the facts right. I still have people insist I am an automatic USC because I married one, they know, thier firends brothers cuzin did it and they dont have to pay taxes either! LOL

Bear with the k-1, it wnt take as long as it seems really, you will be married and living here b4 you know it :)

  21. still working on it

currently there are no bands booked for that night so if I cna find one that would 'fit' ....I think its a go....since I just got hired to book the bands at the bar....I guess I can pretty much 'arrange' a party no? hehehe

im workin on finding a good canadian tribute band or somethng of that nature....rush tribute, etc.

anyone want to contribute ideas.....hit me back :)
