  1. Hello,

Im a USA citizen. Living in the states for a little over 8 years. I am pregnant with my first baby and I will be due end of this year. I will get my 74yo mom tourist visa. She is a senior citizen. She is in the Philippines. I would like her to be here in the states with me when I deliver my baby. Does anyone here applied recently for tourist visa for parents? Do they still need a medical and interview?
Thank you for your reply. I appreciate it.

Most states don't require and don't care, most you can use your Passport.

Idaho doesn't require a SSN either:

    1. A social security number for each applicant. Non-U.S. residents should bring identification from the country in which they are a citizen. No SSN? Obtain a letter from the nearest Social Security Office.
    2. One of the following as proof of identity and age:
      • Current driver’s license
      • State-issued identification card
      • Passport
      • Original birth certificate or certified copy

    https://www.idaho.gov/family-records/marriage/

We were asked for one.  Either way according to the site you posted it said that if you didn't have a SSN Number then you could obtain a letter from the nearest SSO.  Why not just apply for the card while your there.

  3. Most of the time you will need a SSN card to get a marriage license.  I am not sure if this is different in other states but it is true here.  You don't lose you right to apply for a SSN after you get married but you will have restrictions on it if you do not have a work permit.  Be sure to file for your work permit and removal of conditions along with your adjustment of status so that you wont have to pay for them all separately.  this will save you some money.

  4. If you are at the point of interview then i would think your tax forms are irrelevant.  If you want them for the interview to be safe then he should be able to send you copies of what he sent in.

  5. Your assumption of the divorce in the US is correct provided that she was married to a citizen of the US.  My wife was in a similar situation when we decided we wanted to file.  My wife was married to an American who also just stopped communicating with her and abandoned her. After multiple attempts she able to get in contact with him again and they started to converse about a divorce.  He wanted her to sign papers for an annulment because he thought it would be cheaper for him.  I consulted an immigration attorney and was told that the US divorce was the best rout to take.  Even if the Philippines didn't recognize the divorce the US would and that was all that mattered for now.   I then looked up the forms in the US she needed to file for the county he lived in and sent them to her.  She sent them to her ex to fill out and file.  (He had to be the one to file because at the time if the filipina filed it would not be recognized.  I have heard that there was some change to the law but if I were you I would research it first.)  They got their divorce and i requested a couple of copies (one for her records and one for our K-1 Packet).  She is here in the US with me now.  She has been here in the US for about 5 years and is still on the books as being married in the Philippines to her ex.  We have to file to have the divorce recognized in the Philippines (which is another process).  According to the Philippine family code that any divorce awarded to a foreigner that gives them freedom from the marriage then that divorce will also be recognized in the Philippines.  I know this is long but i hope it helps.

  6. You can also try calling the NVC and request a status.  They will give you the MNL# over the phone and let you know if it has been sent to the embassy in Manila.  You will need a lot of patience for this method though.  I called every night for over a week trying to get through.  They are open until midnight east coast time.  I usually started calling about 30 min - 1 hr before closing.  When I finally got through,  they gave me all the information i needed and told me our packet was sent by diplomatic pouch.  I had the medical exam and interview scheduled before I had the NOA2.  I believe the number is 603-334-0700.

    Good Luck.

  7. Hello vj's,

I have a 2 year duration green card which will expire on this coming September. I'm going to renew for another 2 years to meet the atleast 3 years of marriage requirements to get my citizenship. Is there anybody here that just went through the process? What's the best thing to do? How much will it cost?

    Thanks.

  8. As along as the US govt recognized the divorce it doesn't matter if the Phil govt recognize it or not. Just include the divorce copy with the k1 application. We did it, we didn't have any problems eventhough my marriage to my ex was still recognized in the Phils. The US only follows US laws. The USCIS will see it valid and not give you any problems. Always have your own copy of everything you send for the k1 application.

  9. I am in the same situation as you when we applied for my k1 visa but I didn't get any problem about it to get my visa. Just get a copy of your divorce and show it to the embassy and you will be fine. I'm already here in the states since 2015 and already a GC holder. Im still married in Phils with my ex and its  expensive to file annulment in there, I wish I know other ways how to get it change.

  10. Hello guys it's been awhile I haven't open my account here. I'm a green card holder now. I came from Phils and got here in the USA just last year. Everything was so smooth and fast. I am so thankful knowing this website. It helps us a lot.

Now I left my mother alone in the Philippines and I missed her so much. I'm planning to take her next December so she can see and the touch the real beautiful snow which we don't have in the Philippines. I would like her to come visit me here in the USA.

Is anyone here already went trough the whole process? Can you guys give me a link direct to know what all the requirements I needed? Please please. Thank you so much ?

  11. Hi everyone,

My wifes I-131 was returned because we missed a signature at the back. Ooops my bad, I thought i looked them all over. Anyway, the letter also stated that i didnt include the proper fees with it. I thought that the I-131 was free to file with the I-485. Do i now need to pay the $360 for the form? Also when do i need to file for the removal of conditions I-751?

    Thanks for your help.

  12. Sorry to ask something that I figure must have been asked a thousand times, but here goes. Do I need the I-693 if she had her vaccinations with her medical at St. Lukes? Do I need to schedule an appointment with the civil surgeon?

    Thanks in advance.
