I just wanna say thanks for the help with Info though that an a few other sources are what we have already come across an either found they don't have service for the area needed or they don't do anything for immigration (Vantage Transport) an some frankly just aren't willing to wait. We are just trying to figure the BEST way for ourselfs as we don't have a money tree (LoL), But we have decided on two companies which we can bite down an afford. The point in my eye of my Wife posting was simply to know what would happend. Again thank's all for the constant help an advice when possible it makes thing's so much easier for Us.

Your husband cannnot take a day off and rent a van for you? I am sorry but I don't know why it is so difficult...

Usually if you don't know why then you shouldn't get assumptions Friend as alot could tell you, not to mention the "Search" feature, about our situation an why we ask such thing's. We are both in electric wheelchairs though yes I have made Every effort to make this happend ... such as having my Wife post this Thread as part of the effort. Knowledge is power and anyone going through this process in my humble opinion tend to agree, though I could be wrong...

Dear VJ,

You may remember I posted about having to reschedule my AOS Biometrics appointment in Modesto (original Bio appt was 8th Feb) because our adapted van had broken down. After a long wait another appointment came through for March 13th. My hubby and I have called all sorts of adaptive transport companies in the Stockton area to try and make this appointment. On Friday one guy on the phone assured me their company could do it and to call back Monday, today. I just did now another guy tells me it'd be too difficult for them because the trip isn't local. I've called the USCIS in Modesto and cannot get through to a human being. How do I inform them I cannot physically get to Modesto for this appointment? On the Bio appt letter it states that if you do not turn up for the appt they will consider your case abandoned. Does anybody know any transport companies for people in wheelchairs in the Stockton area that would go as far as Modesto? and if not what happens now if I cannot make the appointment? Reschedule for a second time and hope our luck turns?

Hi Gang,

Do we have a AOS couples Question list somewhere on this forum that I've overlooked. If not could we possibly start one. Hubby and I are curious what sort of things we may be asked at the Adjustment of Status Interview here in CA. The sort of Questions I've read up on may have changed as it's been about a year since I've digged up possible questions. Can you guys throw down things that you were asked maybe or what you've heard can/has been asked. Does it differ for case and where your interview is?

Hi Fellow VJ Couples,

Long time no see!

We're doing good at our end immigration wise so far with the AOS and hope our friends here are too. Hubby and I are sharing the comp and spending much of wonderful times together we haven't checked in here in a while.

What brings us here other than to say Hi! is that we recieved my biometrics appointment at USCIS Modesto CA for Feb 8. Seeing as the van we use is currently not working we couldn't get to it. Fortunitely there was an option on the appointment letter to reschedule for the next available wednesday or saturday afternoon. So I checked the box and made a copy of the origional and sent the origional back to USCIS Modesto as instructed on the notice if a different appointment date is needed. Well it was posted a few days before Feb 8th and yet we still haven't recieved a new appointment.

We're not too sure how long a rescheduled biometrics appointment usually takes in general or if it differs depending on which USCIS office you're going through specifically.

Does anybody have any knowledge of how long usually the wait is to get a new appointment through the mail? How long now should I wait to call and try and find out whats up? We're trying to put off calling as usually these people on the phone don't know what they're talking about/don't look at your particular case file or just give you a general responce. So we turn to VJ lol.

Hoping someone has some insight.

All forms get sent together to the Chicago Lockbox.... if you dont include the I-864 then you will receive an RFE for it and this will hold up your case....

Hi Everybody,

We're finishing up the AOS Application an is going well except we dont know if the I-864 is to be included inside the AOS Packet or if it is just needed at the Biometrics Appt./Interview...

Yes we are sure we need a sponsor, that's not the issue, we are just trying to figure out When the I-864 Is needed.

Anyone have any insight into this that could help, keeping in mind we are on the K-1 and starting the AOS Process?

Rebeccajo, to my knowledge I have to go down to Social Security to have my name changed and documented. Which we haven't done as of yet.

Is that right that I can go ahead and use my husbands last name on the AOS application from the start, despite the name change not being documented by SS? I didn't realise you could use it automatically after marriage, Andrew's family tell me it has to be changed and documented by SS.

Hi All,

We're about ready to start the AOS. I have a SSN and we're married. But I have some questions before we start.

1. I have not yet changed my last name to his reason being medical cover etc had to come first when I entered the US on the K-1. Everything was setup in my maiden name as we weren't married till the 6th Nov. Then other balls needed to start getting rolled and appointments were flying everywhere. So I don't want to confuse the system with throwing the name change out there yet. I'd rather wait till I have everything settled with the non-immigration services to change my name BUT we need to get AOS rolling. Is it safe in your opinion to start the AOS whilst I am still using my maiden name on everything and then change my name somewhere down the road which probably will be when my AOS is still being processed? If it is OK to do this, how do I inform them later on when I DD change my name and will this case delay/problems in processing? OR should I then just wait till AOS is over to change my name.

2. Regarding the Affidavit of Support for AOS.

When we did the K-1 we filed the Affidavit of Support I-134 (my now husband as my sponcer and his mom as co-sponcer). Do we need to now include the AOS Affidavit of Support even though we filled the OTHER with the K-1?

3. We were reading the AOS guide on VJ and I am concerned about the medical part. I had my medical exam at Knightsbridge in London in August. The only thing I have of that now is the chest x-ray. When the guide says Vaccination Supplement is that just one you'd get from your GP to include in the AOS packet or is it a vaccination supplement from knightsbridge I was suppost to get?? I am confused. As I said I only have my chest x-ray from there and of course the visa in my passport. What am I looking for?

We went down to the Socail Security Office here in Stockton an everything went well thanks to the work authorization evidence (no EAD needed for SSN/SSC with K-1 Visa) paper we printer from VJ. They were about to protest before Andy reached into our stack of papers (can never be too prepared) an smacked it onto the desk sayin' "nope read this here" then this frilly little guy scurried off to get someone who knew what they were doing as he could tell we did heh! Anyways a nice dude in a chair also came over to help us an made sure to check that no rules had been changed (an they hadn't) an also asked a co-worker on fiona's likelyhood of being accepted (she won't be we just need an officail denial from the Govt. so that we can get her set up with another program) for SSI though it was too late in the day an we took the dudes name after getting everything slipped through with the intent to go back with 4-5 days if not tomorrow for the denial. Her Socail Security Card should arrive in the mail within 7-10 day's

Back for an update.

Arrived on the 10th ok. British Airways are absolutely fantastic btw! Can't fault them one bit. The San Francisco port of entry went very smoothly also. Whilst my parents went through one line a porter took me through the new immigrants section where I was photographed, finger prints taken, signed forms and was told again about the 90 day blah blah. I was the only one there with a K-1 visa it seemed and they find them much more easier to check in than the other peoples who were standing there as I was just waved through. I was searched twice at Heathrow and again at San Francisco but it's all for our own safety. Wheelchair actually came back to me in one piece! which was great. The only bad point as I mentioned in the quick post above is mass motion sickness. But I'm here, fine and no longer ill. Andys mom and his sister-in-law met us at the airport. You would not BELIEVE it is October here, coming from Manchester - London to here it's like switching seasons. It's so bright!

Andy and I had a lovely reunion and are very happy together. My parents left back to England this morning. We also were on the ball and went down to apply for a marriage licience. Our courthouse wedding is November 6th! I also filled out the SSC form today to take in to get a SSN/SSC sorted asap.

And that's about it. It's true what they say, even after 15+ months seperated now we're together it's like it's always been that way.

Now to master this dang keyboard and mouse. I'm used to using a laptop.

We're both very speechless at this point. Thank you so much for the welcome home thread, that was so lovely to read. Thank you also for the PM about the thread Jackie, to avoid putting in a repeative trend we both spent a while searching for it. If Andrew would of given me 20 more minutes I would have found it myself! But lol... gotta let him treat me and I'll just take the chance to put my feet up.

The flight was alright, was ill alot more than the visit but all totally worth it and it got me through that I knew all the way through the flight that it would be the last time I'd have to make such a journey.

Sorry we didn't post earlier, it's been a marathon. Up and out everyday making sure we get things done. Attempting to spend time with my parents before they fly home etc etc.,.

Anyway I'm going to post proper later also Andrew will.

I've spent the last 20 minutes or so with my head in my hands laughing about this because if I don't I'll cry.

I went and accidently broke my parents washing machine whilst trying to get all my stuff clean before packing it in my suitcases. It was only fixed last Sunday . They sure aint happy. Bless mum though she hand washed every single one of my clothes for me and hung em out on the line. Of course she says "Don't expect your MIL to do this for you though!"

Oh the odd things that happen at the last minute.

All I need now is to lose something and I'm all set.

Anybody else have odd/frustrating things happen a few days before leaving for the US?

Hi Everyone,

The worry bug strikes again 3 days before I fly out to the US.

I'm just worried if they ask me at the POE something like "And you intend to reside at (insert address written in forms here)..yes?" And I would have to say no because Andy moved during the "grey area". I'm very anxious that if I tell them the truth...and hand over his new address they will not accept that because it's not whats stated in the mysterious envelope and turn me right back round to the UK. Could they do that? Do they think they'd ask about the address even? The new address would be on my luggage tags so if I just agreed yes it's right about the old address they'd tell I am lying by looking at my luggage tags. I'm climbing the walls.

Andy of course tells me they probably won't even ask anything about it. But if they do, I want to tell the truth but I don't want to be turned back to the UK just because he moved house after my visa was delivered.

Arg *pulls hair out*.

I can't wait for a big hug after all this...

Hiya,

I was wondering when you arrive in the United States do you need to go to a certain line/room/area if you're a visa holder (K-1 in my case)? I am travelling with my parents, they're going via the visa waiver programme and I'm entering with the K-1. Will we get seperated at any point because I'd need to go to a different line/area/room?

I'm a *tad* worried about this because of the whole assistance thing. Last time I arrived in the US on a visit (which was via the visa waiver programme) my wheelchair wasn't at the gate it was all the way at baggage in which I had to be wheeled by my parents all the way through San Francisco Airport to claim. Obviously if I need to be seperated from them because we're both entering via different means and I'm in an airline wheelchair it's going to present a problem. Do they allow your relatives to enter whatever it is (a line/area/department/room) for new immigrants or not? The airline cannot ensure my wheelchair will be delivered to the gate it depends on the day. So I'm just trying to be prepared.

Rebecca yeh I knew a UK script wouldn't work in the US I just meant I was trying to get a supply to do me until I could get sorted medically in the US to get US scripts.

Thanks for your advice everyone, I'll give it another few days then I'll book an appointment and see what can be done. Kaji totally if it can be done by just my letter it would of been easier but if I gotta go to him face to face, that's what I gotta do.

Oh and Perfect too right! I tell ya when I was trying to find out about benefits they sure did put me straight about making sure they knew not to send my DLA anymore. They were far more concerned about me letting them know when I was going than my query NHS all over huh?
