  1. Hiya,

I'm in a little dilemma (quite the norm for me I know) with obtaining a supply of medications.

I know for sure you are able to obtain around 3 months worth of medications if you go on "holiday." But I wasn't sure about what you do if you aren't returning to the UK. I wrote a letter to my GP asking if I could obtain a supply to take with me to the states but as usual no reply as of yet and less than 3 weeks to go. I DO intend to get health insurance within the first week or so of landing but incase we fall into yet more dilemmas and to give me time to figure out the US health system and how I can get a US prescription for all of them I rather have the safe guard of a supply.

Has anybody ever taken a supply of medications when they immigrated? If so how did you go about asking for it?

I have phoned the prescription line that I normally order my medications from but they said I need GPs consent to obtain such an amount. Yet on the lil slip you get in your medicine bag it says I can order (random number) of this, that and other still. So I'm confused.

I'm very worried about this. I don't want to risk obviously just going with my current amount, as it is they only give me an extra (1) of any medication I order. Plus one is in liquid form and as you can imagine it doesn't last long especially with the NHS little bottles of it.

Any experiance with this anyone? :help:

  2. :D Just had to share the great news that the travel agent confirmed the flight bookings! I'll be going "home" October 10th. 4 hour journey to London, 10 1/2 hour flight to San Francisco then 2 hours to Stockton...After 15 months seperated the trip back seems easy. I am so excited, I just can't wait to finally reach out and be able to grab my future literally instead of imagining it. It's all infront of me now, I'm still shocked we got through this far.

  3. Hiya

 I'm sure a few are a tad squeamish at this question. I want to (at some point) purchase some haggis so my dear USC fiance may taste my true culture. But after looking around the web I cannot find one place in the USA where I could purchase it. I could have my parents send some but 1. I doubt it'd get through customs 2. may not be ediable by the time it gets here and 3. I don't want to risk it.

Does anybody know anywhere I could purchase it? Andy will love it :P (though we'll have the bucket ready just incase).

  4. I've been seeing alot of confused posts lately where people have been saying you need EAD authorization BEFORE you can attempt to apply for a SSN.

I was under the impression (going by a k-1) you go...get married, apply for SSN, recieve, apply for AOS + EAD/+ AP too.

Or am I getting confused with a social security card and a social security number? Can somebody explain to me please?

  5. When your hubby can clean out his ears on the webcam and other manly stuff infront of you!

    Fiona

    Fiona, I'm dying to know.....

why are the qtips near the computer and what are these other manly things he cleans while on webcam???

I've been tryin to figure this out all day ;)

 We both have very bad wax problems due to excessive wearing of the microphone/headset. Except I have to go explain to my GP why I need cleaned out. He just uses qtips when I go "afk" and on my return theres the image of him pulling faces on the cam twisting it in his ear *shudder* with the headset still on the other ear. As for the other things, my hubby is very "at home" on the cam literally....he's quite happy to pick his nose, burp and so on...and as he says it comes with the package of marrying him  The things us women have to put up with  .

  6. Hi Lou,

We decided to go with the BlueCross CA for health insurance for myself. Andy will arrange an appointment to go to the local to sign up and get it arranged etc a few days after I arrive. My parents are using travel insurance as they're staying with us for a week before leaving for the UK without me. In the future I think they would probably go with the BlueCross too. It all depends really. They want me to petition for them when/if I'm able to recieve citizenship. So it'll be a while off yet.

    :)

  7. When you're asking for help to pack even though you have a month to go till you fly out and people helping you don't see the rush.

    When you enjoy packing.

When you stay up all night and fall asleep sitting up at 6am just to make sure your sweetheart is safe in bed, watered and fed.

When your cat starts rubbing the computer because he sees it gets more attention.

When friends think you just walk into the Embassy to get the visa and nothing more and you feel like getting out the boxing gloves.

When your cellphone suddenly becomes so important as soon as he's mysteriously been offline for 20 minutes you just have to call and find out what happened.

When you have arguements about a plant, yup.

When you both sleep with teddybears each other has given.

When you find yourself reading the screen more than books.

When you daydream he'll turn up at your door and you can give him a tour of where you grew up but snap out of it because you know he'll never be able to come there.

When your SO gives into watching The House of Tiny Tearaways or Supernanny just because you've recorded it especially.

When the date you go "home" without thinking, lands on the day he proposed 2 years earlier (L)

When you light the candle from a visit he snuck in your bag to celebrate another milestone in the visa process despite you're asthmatic and need to use your inhaler.

When you desolve into tears because it feels like you'll never get there and you both end up crying.

When your hubby can clean out his ears on the webcam and other manly stuff infront of you!

When everywhere you go you find a 1000 things that reminds you of something to do with your love together.

  8. That's absolutely brillient! Ok it's all in my head now :) clear as crystal! Thank you 3 sooo much.

    While I'm here because another somewhat related question in another thread got lost with no replies I wonder if you could answer me this;

My fiance has moved house, with our co-sponcer as shes a relative and the new house will be the same place I'll be going to also. The Embassy/whoever needs to know is unaware of this address change. Because we're inbetween K-1 & AOS somebody advised that we just put the new address on the AOS, EAD, AP documents with a note saying it changed from this to that. BUT I saw in the download section some "change of address forms." Do I need to be sending those in or are they for people whos AOS is already in the system?

Thank you again! You're all stars.

  9. Hi Everyone,

I'm brand new to this area and will be starting my AOS journey October/November and I have a few questions. I've read the guides and been made aware this stage is far more complex than the K-1 process and even just reading the VJ guide has got me confused. Can you help answer these? Anybody?

    1. What are the stages of AOS, i.e K-1, filed - noa1-noa2-nvc-embassy-medical-interview. Could somebody do a simple line up like that?

    2. Advanced Parole (AP) that is to enable you to leave and re-enter the USA before a greencard is issued, is that correct?

2a If what I said in 2 is correct, if I do not plan to return to the UK do I still apply for AP as standard or is it optional?

2b If it is standard do I submit it in the same envelope with the Adjustment of Status documents?

    3. Is it true that once a Greencard is issued you do not need EAD?

3a If it is not true what I asked in 3 do I submit the EAD documents in the same envelope as the Adjustment of Status?

    4. Is it correct that the Biometrics Appointment and the AOS interview mean two seperate journeys or is this done together in the same building on the same day etc?

    5. At what point are you able to apply for Naturalization. When you recieve your Greencard? Or 2 years after?

    Thank you :)

    Fiona

 Eek perhaps I've confused AP with lifting conditions?

  10. It's a real problem right now in the world. Weight. That's why I posted this because theres so many mixed messages. The US & UK have an over-weight issue and are trying to resolve that. Yet this article promotes larger ladies. Of course I'm not against either! You are the weight you are. But dang, will the officials ever decide on what we're all suppost to be in this day and age? :bonk:

    :) Fiona

  11. You're there with him in spirit to comfort him. Even if he can't see you, he can feel your there with him at this hard time. I'll keep you and your families in my prayers. I'm sorry (F)

  12. Article

MADRID (AFP) - Excessively skinny fashion models will be barred from a major Madrid fashion show later this month for fear they could send the wrong message to young Spanish girls, local media reported.

Madrid's regional government, which is co-financing the Pasarela Cibeles, has vetoed around a third of the models who took part in last year's show because they weigh too little.

The authorities collaborated with a Spanish health organisation to come up with a minumum body mass -- a height-weight ratio -- of 18 for the models.

Spanish daily ABC said it was the first time such restrictions had been imposed on a fashion show, although a recent wedding dress exhibition in Barcelona banned fashion models who took a dress size below 38 (British size 10, US size eight).

Several models at last year's show provoked a row when they claimed their careers would be under threat if they put on weight.

Organisers said they wanted to "help ensure public opinion does not associate fashion, and fashion shows in particular, with an increase in anorexia, a disease which, along with bulimia, is considered ... as a mental and behavioural problem".

The event will take place on September 18-22.
