  1. Hello

It’s been about 2 years since I came on this website. I have my Naturalization interview tomorrow in Santa Ana, California and wondered if they are giving out same day Oath Ceremony’s due to COVID-19? I read somewhere they are doing drive in oath ceremony’s which is kinda funny. If not how long are people waiting for a ceremony date after their interview?

After 6 years the journey is nearly at its end.

    Thanks

    This link might help you.

    https://www.uscis.gov/policymanual/HTML/PolicyManual-Volume1-PartA-Chapter12.html

Below are the only reasons they can expedite your application:

USCIS reviews all expedite requests on a case-by-case basis and requests are granted at the discretion of the office leadership. The burden is on the applicant or petitioner to demonstrate that one or more of the expedite criteria have been met.

    A. Expedite Criteria [1]

USCIS may expedite a petition or application if it meets one or more of the following criteria:

    Severe financial loss to company or person;

    Emergency situation; [2]

    Humanitarian reasons; [3]

Nonprofit organization whose request is in furtherance of the cultural and social interests of the United States; [4]

Department of Defense or national interest situation; [5]

    USCIS error; or

    Compelling interest of USCIS.

Thank you. So could I file it under 'Severe financial loss to company or person'. I'm technically being hired and it could cause me to lose my career?

  3. Hello

So a little backstory.....I am currently going through the hiring process to become a LA City Firefighter. Its been a long long road, 18 months to be exact and just like the visa journey, its been tough and there has been a lot of hurdles to overcome. For people who don't know, you go through a background investigation in the final stages of hiring. That is where I currently am, and everything was going well until a green card issue came up. I have recently applied for removal of conditions where I received the extension letter and completed my biomectrics. Now obviously in the eyes of the USCIS I am legal to work and travel with the year extension. I showed my background investigator the extension letter (and mentioned the long processing times) but it raised some questions. In their eyes, my GC expired and its only extended for a year. This won't make me fail my background but when my file is passed on for a final review, they will see that I am technically only extended for another year. I feel that having a expired GC even with an extension letter doesn't matter to people who aren't knowledgeable about immigration. They just see an expired GC and no proof that the 10 year GC will ever come.

My question is and I have a 99% idea of what people will answer but is there anyway I can get my 10 year GC expedited? I realize that its not a life or death situation but I have worked my **** off to get this far and anyone who knows this hiring process, its really tough. It just would be a shame to get this far to fall at the final hurdle because I don't have my 10 year GC in hand. I also feel that if it was possible, more people would do it. I also realize that the extension letter is proof and any other employers would see this, but the LAFD put in thousands of dollars to train you and I see that me not having a 10 year GC would be too much of a risk for them

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone know when I can get an explanation of the extension letter on the USCIS website. I have a potential employer asking about my 10 year Green Card and obviously its not coming anytime soon.

Such a pain in the ****

    Thanks

I realize that the the letter has an explanation but I want further proof I am still legal to work and stay in the US.

  5. Hi

Can you apply for Citizenship, 3 years from your marriage date or is it 3 years from when the GC was issued? Also can I apply for Citizenship even though I haven't received my 10 year GC yet. I have received the NOA so I have been granted a year extension. I entered on a K-1 visa if that matters.

    Thanks
