  1. I have no income and haven't for quite some time. made sure to have documentation of why I didn't submit my taxes earlier. Back-filed my taxes for the last three years and included copies of those, made a note of why tax transcripts weren't available due to recent filing. Also included everything I could showing that I wasn't required to file taxes.

For assets, If you are using money in a bank account somewhere, people suggest to include statements showing the account having that money in it for the last 3-6 months. I included a joint sponsor just in case they didn't want to accept my assets. I really didn't want to wait another 60 days because of that. In doing that, we did not get checklisted.

  2. Hey Steve and Alice.

Thanks for the note. I did receive the 60day email confirmation just this missing. One quick question, coming from my paranoid side (lol) since my documents were sent in two different emails - 1 for I-864 and the other for DS-260 does this email confirmation reflect the receiving of both these emails or just the one they received first of the two?

    Hope that made sense.

I sent all of our documents pertaining to one case in 4 emails because they wouldn't fit in any less. Each email had some IV, some AOS documents just to get them to fit properly. I just made sure they had my case number and info in each one. I got one confirmation although it did not say anything about receiving 4 emails.

  3. We received our case number today! One step closer! How long has it been taking you all to be able to pay your AOS fee after getting a case number?

I also have a question about Part 3 of the I-864. Where it says "I am sponsoring the principal immigrant named in Part 2". I checked Yes, but then when re-reading the instructions it made it seem like you only need to check something there if there are two joint sponsors. Was I correct marking "yes"?

    Thank you!

After getting my case and IIN over the phone the day my case# was assigned, it was immediately there in the online portal.

As for part 3 of the I864, you check yes, rather than leave it blank.

  4. Well she said she is using Google Chrome. That might be it also. Never heard anyone speak of a drop down. So you can leave blank. Even though its Nigeria and they do have states.

I don't see that anyone else added this yet, so I will mention it. The browser changes it a bit, whether it's Firefox, Chrome, or IE. The biggest change i found with the drop downs and the fillable sections was when I updated my PDF viewer. It would work perfectly on my dh's computer, but not on mine even when we were using the same browser. I found it had to do with an update to my Adobe Acrobat when I was using the fillable form (this also made the difference of having a barcode that is interactive on the bottom or not). I still had to leave a few sections blank since it didn't apply to me (the petitioner) living abroad. However, some of the sections that I DID have filled in, were not filled in when I printed, so it still needs a really good look-over. Hope that helps.

  5. How in the world am i gonna talk to a nvc rep when an operator answers saying all their lines are all busy right now and speak spanish blah blah.. Yes i did tried calling and the operator keeps saying the same thing. Is it gonna be like that if i keep dialing all day?! Oh my god.

Yes it will keep saying that anywhere from 5-35 times ....just keep hitting redial. redial. redial. Sucks but that's the only option if you want to speak with them.

A trick to know instead of listening to the speel. When it's a going to give you the "all our lines are busy", etc. it goes straight to the message. When someone it is actually going to put you into queue, it rings once, right away then goes into the "push one, etc" Then you know within the first second of the call if it's actually going to go through without having to listen to them talk every time. When it rings once before it answers, DON'T HANG UP!

I had the best luck very early in the morning right at 7 when they open or in the evening after 8. Only redialed a couple of times at those times before they picked up.

  6. Lol!! I like the "you could save upwards of 45 minutes on doing something potentially more productive with your day" part!! Yes you are right. Its a freaking waste of time waiting for 45 mins on hold only to hear the reps to tell us that our case hasn't been reviewed yet. And worst it'll only gives us a bad day and feel sad and helpless.. =(

Haha I was hoping you'd get my humor in that and not find it snarky. It is quite a bit of a helpless feeling, you're right I had such an anxious feeling waiting for them to pick up the phone. There is so much hanging on a decision that you have no control over and have had no part of while waiting. All the heartache, all the decisions that need to happen. Those "Case complete" words can change so much.

I will say that even though my husband will wait 2 months for interview, just having a date changes a lot and it goes very quickly. You're in the thick of it right now, hang in there!

  7. Just now on my 60th day. Should i call nvc if i

Might be getting a checklist or wait more days?

Some get CC quicker than 60 days. I just waited much longer than that. Here's my take.

If you call, you will know if they've reviewed your case or not. If you call, you might find out if you got a checklist earlier and be able to respond quickly so you have less time waiting for a CC overall.

If you don't call, you can wait for the information that will come days after they review your case. If you don't call, you could save upwards of 45 minutes on doing something potentially more productive with your day. =)

It's a catch 22 and totally up to you!

  8. Does anyone have an example of a statement for my wife explaining why she's doesn't have 2013 tax returns as she was a student that year?

I am the USC. Although I am not a student, I live abroad with the beneficiary and I have no income. Here is what I did. We got our CC without checklist.

    • I printed off and supplied Excerpt from IRS tax law, Publication 554, table 1-1.2013 filing requirements, appropriately highlighted
    • I included my tax filings for the foreign country showing that I did not claim sufficient income in the foreign country/currency to file US taxes.
    • I back-filed my taxes with the US IRS for the last 3 years and included copies of those as well as included a written explanation from me stating that due to recently filing US taxes to be in good standing that there were not any tax transcripts to include, but if I had them at the time of the interview that I would provide them as well as copies. In my explanation I also made mention why I was not earning income.
    • For good measure, I contacted a US based tax preparer and asked them for a signed letter on their letterhead stating that i did not need to file taxes due to not meeting the filing requirements.

What I included could be much more than what they need, but I wanted to get as much included as possible and give us a better chance of not getting a checklist over something like that. Hope that helps!

  9. Hi all, two questions for you.

We just got case complete yesterday for my husband's IR1. Interview is scheduled in Montreal for end of April. Is there a way to bump that up to an earlier date for the IR1 visa?

Also, is it possible to go back to the consulate the next business day and pick up the package and passport instead of waiting for loomis to deliver?

  10. Wow I am SO happy for you!!!!! Right in time for interviews which seem to be about to start scheduling for April!! Perfect timing. I have been thinking of you the past few days, what torture to wait 80 days.

Awesome result though. You are almost there!!!

Aww, that's sweet, thank you! We are a bit in shock today. We knew that God had it all under control, but man, it was difficult to not let ourselves start jumping straight to worrying! Our interview is at the end of April and we are OK with that considering all that has to happen between now and then. At least we are together and the end is near. =)

  11. Spoke with an agent at NVC tonight. Our scan date is Dec. 10 and we haven't heard anything. I think we are 67 or 68 days out now. The agent told me that the case still has not been reviewed, but it's currently taking about 67 days. I'm OK with that - it will happen when it happens... and they won't make us wait forever! No news is better than bad news.. that's what I'm telling myself.
