  1. I have to agree with the others...don't bother calling DOS! They hardly handle immigrant visa cases and just send you to NVC.

I called NVC yesterday and found that if you call after 8:00 that 45 minute hold time (IF you get through) goes way down. I got through on my first redial and only waited 6 minutes! Earlier I hit redial 77 times, got through, then accidentally hung up on myself after 28 minutes. :bonk:

    Good luck!

  2. I would say that yes your visa application will have a much higher chance of being denied if they find out that your marriage is not monogamous. In fact, you could get in a lot of trouble for visa fraud by petitioning your wife when you are in a relationship with another woman with the intent that your wife will sleeping in the next room/not acting as your wife. Choose your steps carefully!

  3. I've been checking our CEAC status repeatedly. The results:

    11/26 - "In transit"

    11/28 - "Ready"

    12/4 - "Ready" (date changed)

12/5 - Got NVC paper copy with SDO # on it.

    12/6 - "AT NVC"

So confused.. I thought "in transit" mean that NVC had already sent it! I've had our SDOxxxxxxxxxx # since 11/26. What do these statuses mean? If I need to call someone, who do I call to find out?

    So thankful for visajourney!

AHHHHH now it says (as of 12/7) that it is "Ready" again.

According to this, that means that on a Saturday and a Sunday the file was updated..when I KNOW there aren't CEAC or SDO people working on a weekend.

Hopefully this is somehow good news.

  5. Congrats!!
Yesterday I got the mail version, and we're about on the same timeline. My status was "ready" and on Dec 4 it stayed ready but updated it's date. I think that's supposed to mean that SDO has received and processed it..one more time should mean we're scheduled for an interview! Good luck! Keep checking the date to see when it's changed. :)

  6. Congrats! This means you case is at the embassy, received. The status date may change 2 more times but continue to say ready. From experience, once received they update status to ready, then when date changes, your file has been entered in their data base, and hopefull third and last time date changes is that your interview date is scheduled. Now, thus may be different in every case, but my suggestion is to call consulate next week Friday.... Just keep checking CEAC and the appointment list.

    Good Luck!

    Thanks!!

Do I need to pay something before I call them?

Can I schedule my appt with them or do they just assign it?

  7. My CEAC status showed "ready" today for the first time! It said this:

Your case is ready for your interview when scheduled at the U.S. Consular section. If you have already scheduled an appointment for an interview, please prepare your documents as directed in your appointment letter and appear at the consulate on the appointed date and time. Otherwise, please wait until you have been notified of your interview appointment. Additional information about how Immigrant Visa interview appointments are scheduled can be found at:http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3731.html

I have read ALL the guides but am still somehow confused on the points below. Questions:

-Do I wait 2 weeks and call to see if they have assigned my interview date, or can I schedule it?

-If they schedule it and it makes my life complicated, can I reschedule it for a later date?
-Is there a fee I can pay now, or does my fiance have to wait for packet 4 to fill out his online application?

    Thanks in advance!

  8. Good morning,

I got my NOA2 17 days ago. According to VJ guides, I can call NVC 2 weeks after my NOA2. I am trying to update my fiancee's (beneficiary's) information, as he's moved. I've called twice (perhaps being a bit impatient!), waited 35 or so minutes on an annoying hold, and talked to the people.

The first lady said I should call back every week to try to catch the application when they have it and that it could take up to 35 days. (Not business days, just days). The second lady laughed and said to try back in 5 weeks.

If I read and understand the guide correctly, it takes 2 weeks to be forwarded to NVC and 1-4 weeks to be forwarded to the consulate. They are saying 35 days from NOA2 is where they are currently. I was hoping that the "1-4" weeks could be "1" week..and that Thanksgiving doesn't delay the processing. :/

I hope this info-sharing was helpful for someone. Carry on!

  9. Good evening,

My fiancee just moved (within the Dominican Republic) after we had filed the I-129F. We just got the NOA2, and I'm wondering whether to call NVC update his address or not.

The original address is his parents address, but it's several hours from the capital and mail rarely arrives on time. It has a higher likelihood of arriving in the the capital. I'm trying to weigh if we should update it and risk delay in processing or not process it but have the hassle of retrieving the packet/it potentially never showing up.

Also, is NVC the right place to call to update it? It's been 7 business days since NOA2 was processed.

    Thoughts?

Note: I searched through a few threads but couldn't find the answer I was looking for. If you know that this has already been posted, please just send me the link. :)

  10. I just checked the USCIS website on a whim and it says “My Case Was Approved” in the title. Underneath: “On November 5, 2014, we approved your Form I-129F, Petition for Fiance(E), Receipt Number xxxx. We will mail your approval notice. Please follow the instructions in the notice. If you do not receive your approval notice by December 5, 2014, please go to www.uscis.gov/e-request to request a copy of the notice. If you move, go to www.uscis.gov/addresschange to give us your new mailing address.”

There is adrenaline coursing through my veins as I write this message. Before I hyperventilate, I want to be sure that I am correct. I got e-confirmation that they accepted our I-129F 10/23. Have we been approved? Is that the message someone else that has already been through the process has received? (If so, PLEASE know that I feel for everyone else who is stuck in the mire of USCIS processing and this is in no way meant to “rub it in”. I hope and pray that everyone’s application gets through this complicated process.)

OR, is this somehow just an initial approval that they’re considering our I-129F and we still have months to go before the next step. (If so, please don’t laugh!)

    Thoughts?

P.S. I hope this is the appropriate place to post this question. If not, please let me know.
