  1. Just wanted to give a quick update on my husbands case in case there are similar timelines still out there waiting. My husband and I filed our I-751 in 2017 and N400 in 2018. Our I-751 application went directly to the California office but was eventually transferred to MSC due to a large back log we got caught in. We never had any issues with paperwork in our I-751 or N-400, seems like we just got caught in so many government shut downs and backlogs and our papers got put in some pile out of site. I am happy to announce though, as of 3/2/2021, we are officially done with this ####### storm! My husband had his combined N400/I-751 interview and got approved! Here’s some hope to all those waiting extra long amounts of time for your case to advance...it does come to an end eventually!

Yes, beginning of May.  I'm not even sure about how to write it, I would appreciate any insight :)

I decided to call USCIS one last time this morning as a last resort prior to sending the letter. I was able to speak with a tier 2 officer and requested an expedite on my  husband's I-751. They have sent in the request and now I must wait to hear the response. Hopefully this works out!

In regards to writing the letter... I'd just write out all your case information (Receipt number, a-number, etc..) and then let them know when you sent in the case, note that it's outside the normal processing time and that you haven't heard anything. Then I'd guess I'd request correspondence on the current status of the case and why it's not being processing within the normal time frame. It doesn't have to be anything fancy.

Yes. They sent me two separate letters. One is for I-751 and another is for N400. They will do a combo interview. My original interview date was 3/10. But it was missed due to office closure. They have recently rescheduled me to 3/24.

This is very encouraging. I'm a bit worried though as I checked your timeline and both your I-751 and N-400 were filed after my husband's.

Worst case scenario, couldn't you go to the next closest USCIS office that is open and get the stamp. They all have access to the same information. Just a thought. I don't see why that wouldn't work, make a vacation out of it.

Come to think of it, flights are so cheap right now, fly to wherever you want. I'm booking round trip tickets on frontier airlines for under 20 dollars each. Just have to purchase at the counter in the airport. Even online they are still at 90% off.

This is a great idea. The closest office is 5 hours away from us though and they have no close appointments (about the same dates as here in terms of availability). Our state is literally shutting down over Coronavirus now. Not sure it would matter if I went to the next closest office at this point. Our schools have been closed from now until 6+ weeks out, everyone is working from home, and it is only a matter of time before air travel is restricted from coronavirus hot zones (even in the US). I think in the time between now and the next available appointment, the chances of air travel restrictions and local federal offices shutting down is very high.

Check out N400 Seattle thread. I'm also a combo filer. I was recently scheduled for interview after the long wait.

This is encouraging. I will go check that thread out. Is your I-751 also pending?

How did it take so long? Is he also filing for N400?

You can get stamp at nearby offices as well but at this point there's no urgent need to get the stamp. His status doesn't go away.

I think we just got in at an unlucky time when there was a huge backlog. He has both his N-400 and I-751 pending. I'm seeing there are still several other people from the same time period waiting as well.

You request it? I've honestly never been refused. They typically ask what the reason is, they make note of that and then transfer you to the computer that sets up the callback.

I do believe you need to do it before noon because after noon the tier 2 officers start calling out (at least that's what I've been told once).

I must have gotten unlucky with the person at the desk who picked up my call. I will try again and request right away.

It's typically more useful to get a hold of a tier 2 officer. The 'tier 1' so to say, are just contractors with limited visibility of your information. A tier 2 is an actual person from USCIS and they can actually see into your case file. It is advised to call early when you request a tier 2 though, waiting times can get up to 6.5 hours in my experience and the sooner you call the lower the waiting time.

How do you get through to a tier 2 officer? I called and requested but the guy who answered the phone would not transfer me. What should I say that would get me immediately transferred? Our I-751 has been processing for almost 3 years. This is ridiculous.

    HI Boodaloo1,

I just spoke with the call center and he confirmed that none of the local offices are closed anymore including Seattle. I would double-check. Though I know information continues to change by the hour.

I've seen in the forum that you have to wait until you are within the 30 days of expiration in order to schedule an info pass appt.

    Good luck to you!

I wish this was the case on our end! Our office will be closed at least a few more days as a staff member had COVID19. They have a mandatory 2-week shut down from March 3rd which I’m sure will be extended.

Sorry, mixed things up. It's not SAVE it is the E-verify system.

    https://www.e-verify.gov/mye-verify/self-check/employers.

Regardless, they have done their job and now need to stop haressing your husband. Don't put up with this ignorance based harassment.

Thank you for providing the link! I went in and checked and his information shows up as being eligible to work. Is this sufficient proof for all employers in the U.S.?

  10. 2 minutes ago, Fr8dog said:

I'm not sure, most companies do. They need to chill out and just do their job. They need to verify he is allowed to work (they did that when he was hired) and verify that there were no restriction on that (there is no restriction for a conditional card holder). And that is it. If they fire him because of this they are looking at some serious issues.

I actually just googled the SAVE system and put my husband's information in. The search did not return anything having to do with any of his applications or ability to work. What exactly is it supposed to return that would show he is authorized to work?

  11. 13 minutes ago, Fr8dog said:

It depends on his work really. He has been authorized to work and they can look it up in the SAVE system. Unless there is a major security issue, they are not allowed to ask for additional info. So the question is, is it a specialty job or do we have an overreaching HR department?

It is likely due to an overreaching HR department. I did not know they had access to a system they could search. Does every company have access to SAVE?

Unless he is forced to show his passport each time he goes to work, there is no real need for the stamp. He is still allowed to work and reside in the US pending the approval.

His work requires proof of his current residency status. If this is expired, what proof should he show?

Edited to add : his work knows the date his I-551 expires and will request proof of renewal (they have done so each time he has had to renew his previous I-551 stamps)

  13. I'm having a bit of a freak out over here. My husband is currently on an I-551 stamp that expires on April 27th, 2020 (as he's waiting for his I-751 to be processed and green card to be in hand). We live in the Seattle area and already the USCIS office has been closed down for two weeks due to an employee testing positive for COVID19. All of the schools in our area are closed until at least April 27th, 2020, so I'm suspecting USCIS will follow suit. I'm trying to be a bit proactive here and am wondering what he should do if the USCIS office is not open to renew his I-551 card before it expires? His I-751 application was submitted in September of 2017. It was moved to NBC sometime in 2018. We have not heard anything since. If his I-551 stamp expires, he cannot work. We called USCIS today and they told us we could contact NBC by mail (not email or through phone), is this really our only option? Is there anyone in a similar situation? And what can we do? Any suggestions?

  15. Today I received a notice via post stating that my husband's 18 month extension letter has been sent through the mail. The problem is that this notice was sent to our old apartment (rerouted to our new apt. via USPS) even though I had changed our address through the online USCIS change of address form. Now I am thinking that the physical 18-month extension letter was actually sent to our old apartment.

Did anyone receive a physical notice of mailing prior to receiving their actual 18-month extension letter?

I'm thinking I will have to call USCIS which I absolutely despise. Anyone have a similar issue?

Hi all, checking in as part of the July 2018 club.  NYC field office.  PR since 2007.  Filed online yesterday and the estimated processing time is showing 9 months to completion, which is a shorter period than I had expected to see (though I recognize that estimate is not the most important thing in the world).  Will update the tracker with my details later!

Welcome to the July club! Also, I've seen many posts of individuals going through New York who had a fairly quick and easy process in comparison to the rest. You are very lucky!! I bet your timeline will shrink down immensely from that 9 months! Good luck!
