  1. Hi all,

A quick question regarding form ds-260, I was looking at the sample form so I knew what I'd need from my husband to fill it out.

There's a question that asks if the applicant is a foreign medical graduate and seeking to perform medical services in US but have not yet passed th National Boards o Examiners examination or its equivalent?

My husband is a doctor and he does intent to take his board exams here to practice medicine in US as well. Should we mark yes or no to this question? If we say yes, we need to give an explanation but if we say no, then will it impact the process?

Just wondering what's the best way to answer this? Or are they asking if the sole purpose of immigration is to practice medicine in US?

    Thanks!

  2. Thanks so much!

    One last question,

On the part that says "I, the sponsor (name) in consideration of the household member's promise to the support the following intending immigrants and to be jointly ad severally liable for any obligations I incur under the affidavit of support, promise to complete and file an affidavit of support on behalf of the follow_______ (indicate number) named intending immigrants."

In the blank, it would be 1,correct? The number of immigrants.

Because below that, space I provided to enter the name and date of birth of the immigrant.

  3. Hi all,

Can someone please tell me if I need to send in form I-864 and I-864A if I'm using my parents as my joint sponsors? I've no income as I'm a full time student and so they would be my joint sponsors but I'm confused if only one of them, who has the highest income should file or both? They file joint tax returns so I would only be sending in one copy of each of the last three years for them, correct?

If I'm wrong, please let me know how to go about it. Been trying to figure it out and plan to send our my AOS/IV package by Monday/Tuesday.

    Thanks in advance!

  4. I've done a lot of reading, Kulfi. What is okay to do now is to put the AOS barcode sheet as the cover sheet for BOTH packages. The barcode is the same and multiple people were told by NVC to do this. Send it in and when the IV packet unlocks, boom. The package is already there. There have been no checklists so far by doing this.

Some members who have done the old process discourage this, but it seems to be working. Just label the barcode sheet as IV by hand and send it!

Good Idea! I've two cover sheets! One that was received from NVC with the letter that had case number and invoice number. It lists all the documents that need to be sent in, it says to mark on the cover sheet which documents are includes and they must be put in the order they're listed. However, after I paid the AOS fee I was given another coversheet.

Both have barcodes on them and they both have the case number as well. Just wondering if I should include both coversheets or just the one that came with the actual notice?

  5. Finally got the AOS fees unlocked at NVC, paid it but the IV fees still not showing up to pay. It's a bit frustrating because I was hoping to send everything in together since they now seem to be reviewing both packages together. When I spoke to someone at NVC two weeks back, I was told I needed my husbands' police certificate however now I've been told twice on different calls that it isn't needed.

Some people say it should be approved at NVC within 60 days and now I'm reading that it may take up to six months. This is ridiculous. All that money and taxes that we pay, we can't even be with our loved ones. Our first anniversary is coming up and really have been praying that we can be together but it doesn't seem like we'll get everything done by January.

I try to keep myself cheered up on most days, just planning stuff out with my husband for when he's here and other times i wonder why I'm planning so early as we don't even know how long it'll take before he gets here. :/

  6. Hello all,

I just wanted to inform you all from Pakistan that you are not required to have the police certificate as it is unavailable in Pakistan. Unavailable, because Pakistan does not have a proper system that tracks any criminal activities. Anyone can go from one city to another and get it without issues.

I have spoken to a representative at NVC, checked the Islamabad consulate website and also the US immigration site and all say that it is not available, hence not required.

So once you send in your AOS package, the coversheet has a list of documents you have to send in and check off whether it's Enclosed, unavailable or not applicable. You MUST check off the "unavailable" category for th police certificate.

Best of luck to everyone who is at NVC right now.

  7. I live in Miami, did you got translated here in US? by chance do you remember the company? Please advise

I used a local immigration specializing company but here's another company you you can check https://www.immitranslate.com

I live in RI so I had limited choices but since you're in Miami, I'm sure there must be plenty of companies who do it. Make sure you tell them it's for immigration purposes.

  8. A friend of mine got a letter last week asking for the police certificate along with other required documents. I have heard contradicting reports too saying that you don't need it in NVC but need it at the time of interview and some say, don't need it at all.

I think it's better to get two copies from the police and keep one in Pakistan for during interview time and one to be submitted to NVC. That's what I'll be doing as well.

  9. as your husband was born in SA and lives in Pakistan what have you done about the original arabic birth certificate? I mean did you got it transalted or certified and from whom? my wife was born in uae and lives in Pakistan and i cannot get the right information about her birth certificate to what to do with it please help

I got it translated and notorized from a company that actually deals with immigration. There are many companies who do that.

Where abouts are you in the US?

  10. So I just called NVC to ask if they got the case yet. I swear it felt like I was talking to a robot. Some very rude guy, who don't even bother to say hi or even who he was. Absolutely nothing.

Just asked me the case number and I gave him. The receipt number from uscis. Like a robot, told me there's no case in the system and to call back after 25 days.

I asked if I would be invoiced the new fees since it's changing tomorrow (Sept 12th), he simply said.. He hasn't been notified of any new fee changes so no and where did I assume that from. I told him it was online. He goes, I haven't been notified so we will go by the old fees as I would consider it.

After a 40 minute hold, I get to talk to a robot who tells me he has no idea about the new fees. How wonderful! Very frustrating.

  11. Okay so here's a list of forms and fees:

    I-130 - $420 (http://www.uscis.gov/i-130)

    I-864 $88 (http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/immigrate/immigrant-process/documents/support/i-864-frequently-asked-questions.html)

The weird thing about this filing of I-864 fee is that if filed from abroad to the local consulate, there's no fee. So way to rip off US citizens who actually pay their taxes. Idiotic govt.

    IV fee - $320 (http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/fees/fees-visa-services.html)

Point of entry fee - $165. This one has to be paid before you come over to the US. This is your green card fee.

Plus the medical fees you'll have to pay but I think in that you get a choice of different doctors who are approved by the US immigration, which you can choose based on the one that's cheapest to save some money.

The I-485 is for the citizenship, isn't it? Then yah, but that's not for another 2 years after you get your green card.

Hope that helps. Hopefully thes are all correct amounts as I've linked the govt sites to where I got the actual amounts.

  12. so its the $420 fee for the I-130 to USCIS then expect additional $438? then I read somewhere its another (roughly) $900 to file the AOS forms? is there a link of all fees? Also don't forget the DR fee and the immunizations which will set us back another $600 (sheesh) what if you have more then one affidavit of support? what then double the fees? oh and the finger prints too! here in BC its $50 (rolls eyes) and dont know about the criminal record check....

Where you getting $900 from? 438 will now be for both AOS and IV. And yup, then there's the medical examination which you'll pay when you get that done. Plus there's another fee which you have to pay before POE.. I think it's 100something.

I'm on the phone right now but I'll post a link in a bit where it has the fees listed. uscis site should have it too.

  13. Hey guys,

A quick question.. My parents are my joint sponsors for the AOS. Do I need to fill out two different I-864 for each parent or just one since they for jointly?

Also, do I need to include any kind of a letter explaining why there's no tax returns for me? I haven't worked in last three years as I was a full time student but I also wasn't a dependent on my parents taxes even though I live with them.

    Thanks a bunch!

  14. Bill? I haven't filed yet, going to in Feb 2015, but have started to gather everything already and filled out the paperwork....but Bill? can you tell me the process? I don't recall a reference to a bill, i just assumed i would attach payment with everything.

When you send in your I-130 to USCIS, you have to attach the application fee with it. And once the case is approved, there's a fee for Affidavit of Support and Immigration Fees. Two different. However, starting this week (I believe it's September 12th), the fees for both will be increased to $438 combined.

Unfortunately it's not cheap to sponsor.

I just got a job interview that is great money...so I may have to put off going to see my hubby until after we file. Can I visit my husband while the application is in process?

Are you the petitioner? If yes, you can go anytime you want.
