  1. I don't like processed food or some restaurants food because it is litterally soaking in oil/grease.

Unfortunately I live with my in laws and the mother has never learned to cook properly. She uses a ton of pre made mixes, so in the end, a lot of the flavours are artificial. When I insist on cooking (from scratch and with healthy ingredients) she tells me I shouldn't (treats me like a guest but I'm here to stay with the family for a few months). So now I have my car and go and buy my own food, when she comes back from work, it's ready for everyone to enjoy, but she feels guilty for not preparing the food herself.

I'm not going to eat ####### just to please her...

  2. Hello !

At your stage he should indeed expect a letter from the embassy which will include a check-list of documents to gather, information about the medical exam etc. In that checklist they ask the beneficiary to send a form along with the DS 160 confirmation page. You're also supposed to send them back the signed check list when you're finished gathering the docs. When they have received those forms and check list they're supposed to assign you a appointment date and time through a letter.

I didn't get mine after waiting for 3 weeks... Most Belgians here wait for 1 week, so I knew something was wrong. Also they keep misspelling my family name, so I'm wondering if that's why I didn't get the appointment letter the first time.

If you feel you've been waiting for too long between NVC and embassy, don't hesitate to contact NVC and/or the embassy to know where your file is at. For us it was quite fast. You can also use the DHL tracking method. It worked for us. You will find several threads about that on the forum.

    Best of luck! :)

  3. Hello,

I hope you guys can help me, I'm kind of desperate and totally confused...

I sent the checklist form to the embassy in Brussels on Dec 23 and so far (about 3 weeks now) I haven't received the interview letter from the embassy. I saw on other Belgian VJers' timelines that it usually takes 1 week. I blamed it on the holidays.

I'm starting to get worried, so I called the embassy on Monday. The first time I called, I was told that I wasn't supposed to wait for an appointment letter, instead, I should sign up to usvisa-info.com and schedule my own appointment there. So I tried to do that, paid for the interview fee and when they got the money, they sent me an automatic email. I thought, "Great, now I can schedule my interview". Well I was wrong. The interview scheduling section on that website says:

Do not continue with this process if you have not received a Consular appointment letter from the National Visa Center (NVC), Kentucky Consular Center (KCC) or the Consular Section.

Enter the Consular location and exact date from the appointment letter you received from the NVC, KCC, or the Consular Section.

You are not scheduling an appointment, you are only registering your appointment information from the received appointment letter.

The Consular Section will not process applicants who enter false or different information than what is on your appointment letter.

So yes, it seems I do need an appointment letter now :(

So I called the embassy in Brussels again today. The lady who picked up the phone this time told me she had no idea what the process is for scheduling a K1 visa (sounds more realistic than what the first lady told me). So I asked her if anyone could help me. She said I should send an email to brusselsvisas@state.gov with my inquiry. I did that this morning, but in the meantime, can you help me figure out what is going on?

Should I blame this delay on the holidays or shoud I become worried now? After all, maybe they did send an appointment letter and it never made it to my address...

    Thanks!

  4. Hello,

I haven't had my interview yet, so I don't know for sure.

I guess you can talk about the kind of wedding you want, about who will be invited, what kind of venue, and explain to them that you don't want to plan anything concrete until you have the visa in hand. That's what I would do.

Edit: Sorry, didn't see you posted this in the Vietnam forum :dancing: Maybe my answer will help, though.

  5. Hello fellow Belgians,

Our K1 case is now at the US embassy in Brussels. I haven't received the checklist from them yet.
I'm almost done preparing the documents I will need for the next steps. However, I was reviewing the checklist below (available in the Belgian portal) and was wondering if it is still accurate?
    Especially the first 3 forms : DS-230 part I, DS-156, DS-156K.

Also, there is no mention of DS-160!

    Packet 3 Contains: Checklist:

    - DS-230 part I
    - DS-156
    - DS-156K
    - I-134
    - Photo spec sheet + addresses of photographers
    - Medical questionnaire
    - Addresses of doctors for medical (3, one in Brussels, one in Antwerp, one in Luxembourg)
    - Instructions for obtaining Police Certificate and Military Certificate. (Upon request they can provide you with instructions on how to obtain police records from abroad.)
    - Letter to send to ministry of justice to request 'police record'
    - Payment slip

To the Belgians who have been through the K1 visa process recently, what was in your checklist exactly?

    Thanks for your help!

    Anne

  6. It doesn't matter as long as you guys talked about marriage and she agrees to marry you of course. :)
"Engaged" & "Fiancé(e)" are just terms, it's certainly not a legal status, meaning that it can't be proven with a ring or a picture of you down on your knees ;) The only proof they need is your intention to get married according to the K1 visa rules.

  7. My fiancé got the RFE hardcopy yesterday. He forgot to check Questions 2 and 3 on page 5 of I-129F. When we filled in the form together I pointed out to him that he didn't answer those questions and he told me that they were for the Armed Forces and I believed him

I'm glad we had a back-up copy of our file so it will be an easy reply for him - I'm so thankful for VJ K1 guide right now!

    Hi cloud9gt,

We have the same NOA1 date. We also didn't get the hardcopy within the given timeframe.

So my fiancé called USCIS and the representative told him that the notification is wrong, it should be up to 30 business days.

Well, those days have passed and we still didn't get the hardcopy. That didn't keep us from getting the RFE notification (text message). Now curious to see if we get the hardcopy. If we don't by the end of next week, my fiancé will have to call them again to check if they have the correct address on file.

You may want to create an account on USCIS website to get their future notifications (text message and/or email).

    Hope it helps.

did you guys get your NOA1 hard copy soon after the text or email? thanks
