  1. Hi all,

I applied for citizenship two weeks back and today I received letter I797c. I just want to know is this the general language of letter everyone receives or it's just different for me.

The above application has been received by our office and is in process. Our records show indicate your personal information is as follows:

    DATE OF BIRTH: xx/xx/xxxx

Address where you live: xx abcd , CA - 12345

Please verify your personal information listed above and immediately notify our office at the address or phone number listed below if there are any changes.

Upon receipt of all required Records Checks, you will be scheduled to appear for an interview at your local USCIS field office.

I am curious about the biometrics letter as this doesn't state anything about biometrics letter. Is it the general form of NOA, which we receive?

Just for information, I have nothing to do with the military and I have been living at the same address since I came to the states. Last year applied for ROC with the same address.

  2. If in divorce papers it's mentioned that you were separated while applying for ROC, that might be a problem.

Also applying for divorce immediately after getting green card is not a good sign.

Tax thing created more complex problems. You need to consult a very good lawyer and better have very convincing answers to these questions.

Even if you found out about your wife's pregnancy, what were you waiting for, waiting for getting the green card. This question should be answered in a very convincing manner.

  3. Hello VJ

i am not sure if this is the right forums to post my questions but if not just bare with me guys as i am new at the site,i'm just completely lost right now.

i came here in the united states as a K1 visa married to american guy who has been very abusive to me after 2yrs battle for emotional traumatising marriage i manage to escape

it’s now been about 2 years since I’ve moved out, gotten myself a car, a job and have building my own life.

I did wind up getting my 10 year green card approximately 1 year ago under my married

I am about to file for divorce, but I do have some questions about how that will affect my green card and ability to apply for US citizenship in the future?

To get the best answer, it's better if you provide your green card date, like find out the date of 'residence since' on permanent green card. You can apply 90 days before the 5th anniversary from this date.

  4. Hello VJ,

My husband came to USA in 2000 overstated his J1 visa (he was 19 at that time).

He bacame a legal resident in July 2012 at age of 31.

So he overstated his visa for about ten years.

He will be applying for citizenship based on 3 year rule in April.

We are confused about question number 46 on N400.

"Are you a male who lived in the United States at any time between your 18th and 26th birthdays?

(This does not include living in the United States as a lawful nonimmigrant)".

What he should answer "yes" or "no'?

    Thank you

When they would ask when did he come to US and on which visa, what will be the answer? I think you should clearly state yes.

  5. That sounds great luckycarrot.

One more question. Did you apply on 3 year or 5 year rule. The reason I am asking, as I am applying under the 3 year rule and want to know if spouse is required to go for interview specifically for SF. Few people say it's fine not to bring spouse if you have enough docs (which I have), few say it's required.

  6. Hello all,

I have a questions regarding of the documents to submit with form N400 for citizenship application.

I saw that I need to submit my spouse's proof of Citizenship since I am married to her. However, the information did not say that I need to submit the real document or just a photocopy version.

Can anyone of you please help me to address the concern? and please let me know which documents only need to be submitted as photocopy, and which ones need to be real documents ( Birth certificates, Marriage certificate. ect.)

    Thanks!

Very daring question. Looking at the threads 'lost naturalization certificate when applied for US passport' and

'USCIS lost or misplaced whole file' no one can dare to submit any original document to USCIS.

  7. Hi all,

I was just wondering if someone can share his/her interview experience at SF office. Like the timeline to get an interview from filing date. Do they give you oath letter there or mail it and how much time it takes to get an oath letter after interview.

I have noticed that TX takes less time than AZ for N400, as I saw last few month's trends but it was really opposite for I751. My application last year just took 3 months to get approved at SF, and now it seems like it's gonna take at 3-4 months for an interview.

It will be helpful if someone can share an experience or just the timeline of getting an interview from filing date.

  8. I will be immigrating to US on IR-1 visa, sponsored by my USC wife. I understand I would get LPR or Green Card upon entering USA. I am wondering how may years would it take for me before I could apply for US Citizenship. I understand this question has already been answered before. So excuse me asking it once again.

    Thanks

Once you get the green card after entering, see the date on green card. Add 3 years to that date and subtract 90 days from that date. From this date onwards upto 90 days you can apply for citizenship. I know its a lot of math :P

  9. 1. Can we go for walk-in bio for N400?

I remember I did walk-in last year for I751 and it was accepted at my local office. I still have the same local office. Did anyone try it?

    2. Did anyone ever got an RFE for N400 for missing documents? I did not submit a tax return for 2014 (I am in the process of filling it). Do they ask for missing documents in interview or send RFE for missing items( because RFE will definitely delay the process)?

  10. Hey guys ,i just want to share something with you .... and my frustration... Why do companies not want to hire over qualified people? Wouldn't it make sense for a company to hire someone especially when they are over-qualified for the job ( Phd , Master ) ??? if the person in question is willing to take a paycut/accept what the company is offering for the job? Many managers feel intimidated/threatened by someone who is possibly more qualified than themselves, and will be reluctant to hire someone who might be able to take their job. Should i ask my self why i'm over-qualified ???

I completely support this statement as I experienced it myself. I have been searching for job for last 1 month seriously and reached up to final interview two times but still no luck. In 1 job hiring manager was not even confident speaking about job skills requirement, but called me because I have more years of experience and better qualification than her and she was looking for one helping hand to her. She wanted to hire me initially, but when saw my confidence level more than her, never came back to me even though she explained second step and referred few books and terms for preparing for the second round. I was very confident in getting that job as my interview on my part went really well. She was admiring all my experience throughout interview process, but changed her mind after I left probably. She has hired freshers (she told me in the interview) for the position earlier and that's what she will do this time too, even though she will have to work hard more (she was complaining about it in interview that how she had to train all freshers whom she hired earlier) and company will suffer more, but better than having someone better looking, intelligent and more experienced than her.

I feel it is better for me to apply for more opportunities than getting hired and work for these people because one will always suffer with them. They will never do any good or let you do any good for company and it will always be a power game.

I must say be patient and wait for better thing which you deserve.

  11. Hi all, I am wondering if someone applied and got a job in a different state. I had been working until my company lost the contract last month and everyone got laid off. Now I am planning to relocate to somewhere else or maybe other cities of my state.

If anyone can share her/his experience of getting a job in a different state, it will be helpful!

  12. First off - everything Brit said.

As far as profiles - this really depends on the person, how busy they are, and what they are looking for in this interview. Like what Brit said earlier, this would be more focused on what you would be like as an employee - so whether they went through the profile before or will go through it with you isn't something to be nervous about.

I am not a CEO/Owner however I have experience hiring people. A lot of what I am looking for is interpersonal skills, demeanor, how well they communicate even when they may be nervous in an interview. I also like to casually discuss their skills that are on the resume that have been evaluated by whatever job specific tests. Sometimes a person might look really great on paper, but when I speak to them I can see that they may not be as comfortable with job related skills as it might have seemed from their resume. Or maybe a person who may not have done as well in other areas of the screening process may be really charismatic and I can see they would be a good match for the environment - sometimes that can be more important than having more "qualifications" than the other candidates. Can't think of better way to word this but....I generally feel that it is easier to teach a skill than it is to modify personality traits.

Basically what I am saying is that it sounds like you are very qualified for this job skills wise and they like you so they want to make sure that you are good match long term for their company. Meeting with an owner is a good thing because it shows that the owner is invested in their business and want to bring people in who are also invested in helping the company succeed. I recommend doing research about the company and have a question or two ready to ask the owner like the ones Brit mentioned. Even if it is something small, it shows that you are very interested in this job and this company and not just looking for any job to get your bills paid.

Be yourself - be comfortable and confident with all the info on your resume/profile and you will do great! Good luck and let us know how it goes! :)

    Thanks for excellent suggestions!

  13. Thanks for the reply Brit.

Do you think he already went through the profiles of all finalists or he will go through in front of us?

This is his company so I think he had been part of the process of deciding the finalists even though he was not there in the second round.

Also, he is coming from Washington to interview all finalists.

  14. Hi all,

I want some suggestions regarding the final interview with the CEO / owner of the company.

I qualified for a phone interview of 15 min, then for a face-to-face interview which lasted for around 2 hours including a test. At the end of the interview I got to know from the expression of manager that she was interested in me. She is the project manager looking for new employees and shortlisted me so obviously wants to hire me.

Today I got to know that I have to appear for final interview this week and I am pretty nervous. I am informed that I am one of the finalists to be interviewed same day and then a decision will be made. The interview will last 30 min. All the personality related questions have been asked in the second round and test is being taken so I think it will be just talk with the owner.

This is a dream job I have been looking for so long.

Is the CEO involved in finalizing the list process before taking the final interview means does he already know about us before taking final round or it's a hit and miss basis?

Please share your experience about clearing final round of interview with CEO.

  15. Life isn't fair. If you insist on following the rules created by the privileged class, you will lose every time.

I was approached by another recruiting company yesterday and just met them half an hour before. They were also offering me to go to a 'sales on phone' job interview. I declined it but they promised to reach me for other jobs (if they get one).

Can you please convince me how somebody shows 4+years experience when he just came 1 or 2 years back.

How does it not come out in background check?

  16. Tell me, that 4 years how will you explain how you got 4 years US experience living outside the US.

Just sad. Being outsourced from within is a common American practice in the US these days.

Exactly thats what i am thinking about. I have been here for last 2 years, how can i show that i have been working for last 5 years?
