  1. what?! I thought NVC pretty much ensures that whatever is needed is provided at NVC stage and interview is simply a formality. I didnt know they check and ask for financial documents proof at the embassy as well.

That's what we thought too. The nvc said all our stuff was fine. Nvc literally told us that everything was perfect with the joint sponsor documents. This guy is just wrong, right?

  2. My husband was approved today at the consulate in Sydney :) he was in there over 2 hours, but most of it was waiting. Actual interview only took about 5 min he said, and a lot of that was him reading a pamphlet on domestic abuse that they gave him.

They asked four questions (at least that's how many he told me haha) I can't remember for sure right now (and his phone is dead) but I think they were

    How did you meet?

How long were you in Thailand? (We met there volunteering)

What's her relationship to the joint sponsor?

    When did you get married?

I'll edit later if that's not right haha

I'm so happy for you guys, he is a lovely bloke! I was really grateful for his company afterwards once I calmed down enough to be around people and stopped bawling my eyes out. Lol!

God I hope this is an easy fix. We have emailed the email they gave us to send the "w2" to, explaining that he doesn't get one, crossing my fingers that they will say "Yep that's correct" and send me my visa. He also wrote "2014 w2" which can't be right.

  3. He's right: a W2 is a tax form given by an employer to an employee. Self-employed people don't get them.

There are other ways to prove self-employment income, the best example being all the special tax forms that self-employed people are required to fill out in great detail.

We gave them all that :( I even said that to the guy and he said they still give themselves w2s :( but I don't think that's right. I emailed them saying so. We gave them his tax return plus all schedules.

  4. Hey guys, i literally just read this whole thread just now and im in panic mode. I have an interview at the buenos aires embassy april 16, 2015. Heres my questions:

    1) We did not receive a "packet 3", we got a p4 interview letter only a few days after CC, did I miss it?

    2) The embassy instructions nor medical instructions were emailed to us...just the p4. did we miss this?

    3) There is no mention of dhl online registration anywhere on the p4 letter and this is all we have received,

    4) On our p4 letter we were not asked to bring any financial evidence (Y), but should we bring the 2014 taxes or transcripts along with new i-864?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

This is K1 stuff, are you going for a K1 visa?

EDIT: Sorry, the packet 3 thing is a K1 thing, I'm pretty sure. The embassy instructions are on your p4. Medical instructions too but the doctors know what to do. DHL is not mandatory. I'm not sure about the tax thing, but I would say it's probably a good idea to bring 2014 tax details since it's after the 15th of April

  5. Yeahh that's what I was thinking. For me they are asking for 5x5 cm ones, which is US passport size I guess.

But that makes me wonder, if they want 2 new ones at the embassy, why did they ask for them at NVC stage? Since they just forward them to the embassy anyway. Plus USCIS wanted one too, so they could have might as well forwarded that one to NVC.

If they're like other govt organisations, your photo gets glued or stapled to documents all over the place. So they don't reuse them.

  6. I'm confused about bringing passport photos to the interview... there is contradicting information: The last page of the P4 letter says that I MUST bring 2 photos, yet below on the same page, on the list of documents it says PHOTOGRAPH - Y (The NVC sent this form or document to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate).

So I already sent the NVC 2 photos, which they now sent to the embassy, but the embassy also wants 2 MORE photos? What do they need so many photos for? To make a collage? And they dont specify how recent the new ones are supposed to be, or if I can bring copies of the same ones as I sent to NVC.

As long as you look the same I would think older ones would be fine, I know in Australia they have a "these photos expire on..." part on the packet. If it's not a lot of trouble, getting some new ones might not be a bad idea. I have some recent ones from just before my medical - I got US passport sized ones accidentally then had to go back for Australian passport sized ones.

  7. Sharks,

CHILL! The Consulate is much easier than NVC. NVC is the one that is the pain in the butt about these Australian Police Certificates.

You will be fine!!! The Consulate has already told you so. Put your anxiety into what to wear! (grin)

    Sukie in NY

I hope you are right! Thank you so much Sukie you really made me feel better :)

As to what to wear, well that's been planned for weeks LOL! Actually I'm just going comfy, but not too comfy. Black jeans, boots and a nice top. I was thinking about whether I should cover up all my tattoos (I'm quite heavily tattooed) but I don't think that is going to be necessary somehow, lol can you tell I've overthought this?! Minimal makeup, done.

Gosh I miss my husband so much. Our dog got to him earlier in the week and she is LOVING the cold and snow, and the attention from her new grandparents, lol.

  8. WEll my anxiety is torturing me at the moment. I have my interview this coming Tuesday in Sydney and I'm now convinced I don't have the right police certificate. I submitted a Queensland Police Certificate that came back with just my married name so I ordered another one from the Australian Federal Police. That one has both names, so I emailed the Consulate and they said that was fine, it doesn't need fingerprints as long as it has both names. But yet, because I keep reading about fingerprints, I am convinced I'm going to be in AP and have to be without my husband even longer. I am in hell.

  9. Had my interview today in Sydney and........ APPROVED!!!!!!!!!!! :) omg it feels like its not real yet! its been 15mths since we applied and its finally over!

We had a huge scare cos the CO officer almost rejected us because he didnt read the police check correctly!

He thought it was just a name check in my married name and he said it has to be in both married and maiden names or have the fingerprint check as well. but i HAD gotten fingerprint check as well so i pointed that out to him and he said 'Sorry your right" and said we were approved then :) and that we should have our visa in hand by the end of the week. YAY

This is so good to hear!

I nearly had a heart attack, but then remembered that even though my AFP check is name only, it has both my names clearly on it so I think I'll be fine.

In Australia, you can either get a "name check" or a "fingerprint check". The NVC says they require a fingerprint check. The Sydney Consulate says they require a name check. Go figure.

Anyway, if you have only used one name in Australia, you only need one name check. But if you have changed your name, you need to make sure you get a name check in EVERY name you have used.

Or...solve the problem easily by just getting a fingerprint check in the first place.

This information is specific to AUSTRALIA. Your country may be different

    Sukie in NY

I have even printed out the email they sent me saying that they only need a name check, just in case, lol!

Today I received my passport and Visa in the mail !!!!!!!!!!! Its finally all over!!!!!

We fly out on Monday so Im thanking god for it getting here in time!!!!

thank you so much to everyone on here that has helped I would have been lost in this process without VJ and the wonderful people on here.

and good luck to everyone still going I hope it will be over for you soon!!

YAY! I hope your flight goes well.

One week and one day til my interview! Eek! I'm not really that nervous just excited.

  10. Hey, Aussies! You don't need anything else - no "applicant readiness" form. The only "special" paper you would need is the email with permission for your spouse or children to attend the interview with you, if that is applicable to your case.

We are in south Queensland, so missed the wind of the cyclone, though we got the rain. Hope your area recovers soon.

Enjoy Sydney! Do the Bridge Climb while you are there!

    Sukie in NY

It's so bad up here Sukie :( Still no power, that makes it nearly a week. That's 36000 customers too. Started at 70000 so they have made good progress. Our yard was absolutely decimated - we're on a half acre block and all the ironbarks and other nice native trees are just shredded. It's honestly just unbelievable.

Anyway! Nevermind, we will rebuild. So glad to hear I don't have to worry about that form. And Ray (husbo) leaves to go home on Monday so he won't be coming with me.

I don't like heights at all so I won't be doing the Bridge Climb! I've heard it's spectacular though. I have a heap of girlfriends in Sydney so we are going to do a spot of (window, for me) shopping then have dinner.

  11. Hi Kay & Jeffrey and SharksBelow

Just to let you know I had my interview on Tuesday in December and the Visa was in my little hands by Friday. The worst part was that the Express Post guy left it on my doorstep and didn't ring the bell. Can you imagine!!!!!!!

    Good luck both of you.

    Xx

Thank you! I hope this happens this fast for me too - it should do, so long as our cyclone stuff clears up by then!

Thank you Sukie! My interview is in a week and i think im starting to second guess everything lol it is a 3 kilo bag so must be right but again im starting to second guess everything

Hey! Don't stress - you've got this! That's the right bag, you know the answers to the questions, take deep breaths and do not panic.

  12. Hi guys. My visa status says "ready" which is great but isn't there some kind of form I have to fill in? Applicant readiness or something? Ih ave everything ready. My region was absolutely flattened by a devastating cyclone in the last few days, we have no power and were without running water for 4 days. It's unbelievably hot and so hard to sleep because we can't power our fans or air conditioners. Anyway that aside I have the visa package all ready to go, the only thing I need to add to it is our book of wedding photos.

  13. OMG hahaaa noooooooooooo you sleep and I'll keep the Support and Rant open and post as we go that way tomorrow hehehe you can read all about it just hope it's a happy ending. Thank you so much for your prayers I am eternally grateful.

Oh pssht who is asleep at 3:30pm! I just got to work and will be keeping an eye on the time and building up my good-thought saturation before then. Not long to go now huh! Let's do this!

  14. Hello sweet heart so happy for you and your a shoe in so just a matter of getting that Visa in your hands! :D

Please SharksBelow and everyone tonight at 9:30 Pacific Standard time it will be 7:30 Feb 19 Th in Egypt, Cairo is the worst Embassy pretty much bar non so even if you don't ask me please say a prayer that we get the Visa with no AP/Administrative processing we have waited so long already waiting any longer would be cruel and unusual punishment and promise I'll do the same for you when the time comes. Thank you in advance. graphics-love-909133.gif

My darling of course I will do this for you. I will be sending all my best thoughts for success and no AP at 3:30pm AEST (4:30pm ADST).

  15. oh yes that should be lots of time. We are being slightly more daring :o lol our interview is March 3rd less then 2 weeks :dancing: and we booked flights for the 10th :o hopefully will have it in time but as I said above my husbands fathers health is bad and we want to get back as soon as possible after almost 15mths we are ready for this to finally be over!

I'm certain that you'll be fine! How wonderful, you are such a good daughter in law :)

  16. OOhh SharksBelow how exciting!! it is a little naughty but we did the same thing :) hoping all goes well but as you said the flight we want was getting more expensiveand my husbands (US citizen) fathers health isnt very good and we want to get back as soon as possible so took the chance. when did you book it for ?

1st of April :) So leaves me just over 2 weeks. Should be plenty of time to get that visa in my hot little hands :D When is yours?

  17. Yep - keep that envelope sealed! Congrats on getting your medical out of the way. Hope you had a good time in Brissy!

One month to go - you are almost there!

    Sukie in NY

I had a fabulous time! Less than a month to go now, woohooo!

I know it's extremely naughty but I booked my flight. Every time I looked they were getting more and more expensive so I took the plunge. I figure if there's an issue at interview I have bigger problems than having a flight booked and I made sure I could change it if needs be.

  18. I do not think you chosen poorly. If you had gone k-3 route, how do you know your I-129f petition would of been sent to the embassy and process before the I-130 arrive at the NVC.

I believe overall The IR-1/CR-1 is better then the K-3 visa, as there is no AOS later in the states or more fees. The only thing good about the K-3 visa is it is possible for your spouse to come to the USA sooner. If the main concern is for the beneficiary to be in the states sooner then they should do the K-1 fiancée visa if possible .I think even the K-1 visa is better then the K-3 visa.

To me a K-3 just does not seem worth it.

I completely agree with this, we went through the same thought process as you. There's NO guarantee the K3 is faster. I'm nearly at the end of IR1/CR1 so just keep the faith my friend it does all end <3
