sarahbella got a reaction from HF & HB in Filing Canadian Taxes
    Hello all,
Question about taxes, because H&R Block hasn't called us back in 3 weeks and I figure I can sort this out on my own. (hopefully)
    Our situation:
Left Canada on K-1 Visa on August 13, 2014. Got married on Oct 4, 2014. I worked in Canada before I left. Did not get my EAD until January 2, 2015. Called the cra to let them know I left Canada once I arrived in the US.
Now, when I file my Canadian taxes do I have to do anything special? I just tried it out on Turbotax and it does everything I ask it to, putting in my medical expenses, transit pass, all of that. Now do I have to add my US Spouse's information to my tax form? The Turbo Tax keeps asking what my Spouse's income is. Do I have to tell them that? We weren't married while I was a Canadian resident. (also it totally reduces my return amount)
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Sarah

sarahbella got a reaction from Soapies in My EI claim on a K1 Visa DENIED
    Hi Soapies,
I came here on a K1 Visa in August and applied for EI within 4 weeks. I did not have Employment Authorization and was not going to apply until I was married and sending in my i-485 (Sent it in oct 7). I would suggest you call the Out of Canada line and ask them to call you back. I'm pretty sure my claim was denied at first as well, once i'd sent in my passport and stuff because they mailed me a paper form to fill out. Then I started getting paper claims and did my biweekly phone calls. A lady called me and went over what I had to do which was get my reports in and once I have my EAD to fax that into them. I got my EAD on January 2nd and it was good as of Dec 22. I thought I'd get backdated to august but a lady told me they go from the date on the EAD. So I finally got my first payment on feb 5th.
I think I read somewhere on here that you can just pick up your claim again when you get your ead, but i just did the phone calls because it was something to do and I wasn't working, driving, anything.
I don't get as much as someone who came over with the ability to work right away but really until visa journey I didn't know I could have even gotten anything!
Hope that helps, and I would call the Out of Canada EI line.

sarahbella got a reaction from PGYST in October 2014 AOS Filers
    Hello all,
Just a quick update on my case, we received my green card in the mail last week but there was an error on it, the date it was approved said it was from 2014-2016 rather than 2015-2017. So we filled out an i-90 and I went in for an infopass appointment to get a temporary 1-551 stamp in my passport. We mailed off the form and are waiting for the green card now.
Also I have a job interview tomorrow!
