I'm not sure if this is the proper place to post something like this, but I'm having a hard time and don't know anyone in real life who can relate to what I'm going through so I thought I would see if I could get some friendly responses here.
I met and dated my husband while I was working in South Africa last year. This past June he relocated to Nigeria (his home country) and I went with him so that we could be married. Since then I have relocated back to the US to get a different job and process all of the immigration paperwork.
I'm generally a very strong and brave woman, and he is and has been a very sweet and supportive man, but this process is heart wrenching sometimes. The distance, the time difference, the limited availability of technology (and electricity) in Nigeria, the general difficulty of getting anything done in Nigeria... the loads of complicated paperwork that requires complex conversations over the phone. It's all just hard. Not to mention the fact that very few people around me really understand what I'm going through. They are as supportive as possible, but since my husband hasn't been to the US yet, they worry for me (about bad things they've read on the internet - not my particular relationship). I just want to cry...
I'm sure at least someone on here can relate, right?
Aww. I can feel your emotions right through your words. It is not an easy road at all but when you have a good honest one it's well worth it in the end. It will be an emotional roller coaster. You will laugh, cry and rejoice many times. You will feel overwhelmed and doubtful but it's the fatigue and frustration kicking in. Try and be proactive by preparing everything now. There is no way around the time difference. Just last night I feel asleep on hubby while he was all enthusiastic but it was 2am my time. You wil be tired and cranky and you two will get into it due to the separation. Pray constantly for the strength to endure this gruesome process. Family, friends and Co workers will think you're nuts since it's not the traditional way of doing things but only you and God will know that this is the right thing and right man for you. Hold on and don't let it consume you. Our Case Took 10.5 Mos WHICH Is great. Find someone who is going through this same process and become phone buddies or meet in person if close by. I met some awesome people whom I could pour my heart out to without judgment. Good luck and hugs to you

Hi all!!!
Just need a bit of advise as I and my husband are in the last stage of NVC . My husband is a Medical Doctor and stays in the Eastern part of Nigeria and can't leave his job now to go to Lagos ( which is about 12 drive from where he lives) for police certificate.
We intended for him to get the police certificate when he is required to go to Lagos for the medical exam.
My question is can I still submit my IV packet without the police certificate? Rather can I have my husband write a letter stating his work circumstances and the distance along with letting NVC know we will have his police certificate with him during his interview date.
Will we get an RFE for this or is it okay? Has anyone had this same problem?
I'm almost 100% sure there is no way around this. The police cert is required in order to get a case complete. You can try calling customer service for confirmation but it is my understanding that this is required at the nvc stage and at time of interview.

Question, how long did it take for your hubby's interview date to be booked in Lagos after your case was completed with NVC ?
Case was completed May 14th. Interview was scheduled 1st week in June.

Congratulations.
The two year break is great and then you get right back in for the removing conditions.
Start compiling evidences from the get go.
Great advice thx

hi teamvic, congrats on ur approval. pls i have a quick question, pls were u given a cd as part of ur medicals result at q-life family clinic? pls is the cd part of the results taken to the embassy?
No hubby wasn't given a CD. He was given his results in a sealed envelope only to be opened at the time of his interview.
I just noticed your username has "team" in it. How fitting for this process, no way any of us could get through it if we weren't a team. Really wishing the best for you, now you can kick back and relax because YOU DESERVE IT
Thanks for the kind words!

Thank you all and I will definitely check in from time to time!

Thank you all so much for the mental support and knowledge provided. I can finally start sleeping peacefully at night (no more checking my uscis case status all day long, waking up to be the first caller at nvc, on hold for an hour, jumping at every email notification or text message, driving my mind insane thinking the worse case scenarios, most importantly no more waiting to be a normal married couple. ..the time has arrived). Hubby will be here right before Labor Day weekend and we're thinking about driving down to Miami with the family to just chill and have fun!!! It would be a good place for a mini vacation. For all those still waiting.... Keep praying and being proactive with your cases!! This phase of the journey is finally over!! Praises to the Almighty.

You'll need to send a copy at the NVC stage and beneficiary brings the original to the interview
-
Congratulations.
Did he have your passport with him and was there any conversation about your presence in the country?
Thanks.
Hello! Yes he had my passport and boarding passes but they were not asked for. He told him I was outside without being asked and the Officer replied "that's good"
Thanks again Everyone!! Thanks for the support!

Hubby's feedback. We're sooo happy
My appt was for 10 am. My wife arrived in Lagos on Sunday to celebrate our anniversary and to accompany me to the interview.
I arrived at 8am. I walked in and met the security guards. I was asked to go outside to open my medical report.
My bag was searched then I was asked to sit in a sequential order. I waited about 5 hours to be called.
I walked up to the window of a nice Caucasian man i his 30s or so. He was super nice and even pronounced my difficult name correctly. I smiled.
I brought along with me mor photos, more chat logs, call records and huge rims of paper of chat logs from every app we used. Wifey said they already have tons of evidence and this was way too many papers but I was not taking any chances. I lugged everything but the kitchen sink with me. As soon as I walked up to his window he gave me back my photos that we sent at the USCIS and NVC stage without saying a word. At that point I got scared like omg why is he returning my photos,
He proceeded to ask me the following
Questions asked
1. What is your wife's name?
2. How many children does she have from her previous marriage
3. Have you been married before?
4. What are the ages of her kids and their names?
5. Interestingly enough he harbored on a few more questions pertaining to the oldest child which was ok sense I'm close with them.
6. He mentioned when my wife got divorced.
Then he pulled out 2 papers in silence, then said mr victor U can pick Up your visa from this location on this paper next week!
You're good to go!
I carried all the evidences back home. I tried to trick my wife outside but I couldn't hide my big smile!!!!
Our anniversary is tomorrow!

Hello! Sorry for the delay. If you don't quote me it doesn't alert me of your message. I just happened to stumble over it. I called NVC relentlessly and they gave me the interview date over the phone. I finally got an email about 2 weeks later. Hope this helps and I pray that you get an interview date soon!

Good to know. I figured my case was updated for the second time within the space of 1 week and I wondered what could be going on.
With what I have read now I blv no cause for alarm.
Thanks peeps.
Keep counting down to a successful interview by the grace of God.
And don't forget to give a general review on your experience as soon as your done.
Thanks
Ok. Glad I wasn't the only one wondering. Thank you for the well wishes and I certainly will.

Of course they are preparing for an interview. They could have gotten information. Completed an investigation. Got information back,. Every time they touch inter information they update your file. Nothing to worry about. Just prep work on their end.
Okay! Makes plenty of sense now. Oh boy!
The update you saw means that your case was touched by someone at the embassy. Your case was looked at. It is normal for the case to be updated multiple times. Before and After interview.
Okay! Makes sense. Thank you for the reply!

Hmmm, my case has been at the embassy for about a month, status "ready" for a while, interview on July 30th. I noticed there was an update done today by the embassy. Is this common?
-
An NVC operator just told me my case was completed on 19June2015. Does anyone know if NVC ships completed cases immediately or waits till embassies schedule the interview? Thanks.
For CR1 cases it takes a bit longer to get shipped. First they have to schedule the interview with the US Embassy in lagos. Once that's done they will ship your file. It's taking about 30 days from case complete to appointment letter. K1 cases get sent over quicker since interviews are scheduled by the Petitioner/beneficiary after case complete etc
-
Yay... congrats!!
Me and my boo are creeping up on our 1 year anniversary (dating) and he will be interview in July, too.
Good Luck
Oh sweet! I wish you both much success too.

Yes good point. Research is a must. The Internet provides a wealth of background information and some at no cost.
Exactly ! I totally agree. One should also investigate a little bit to search out online digital tracks of someone they meet, online or offline.
Amazing what you can find out when you know how.

There are bad apples in every country, every part of the world. Ironically the divorce rate amongst Americans is one of the highest. All anyone can say is take your time, pray about it and get to know him well. There are no guarantees in life not even amongst those marrying from low fraud countries. Divorces are running rampant right here in the US. Make sure you seek advice from your parents, close friends and Clergy if applicable. I'm very happy with my Nigerian man but sensibility is required.

Welcome to America! And to North Carolina! You'll love the weather here. I'm originally a New Yorker but moved to NC. Enjoy!Hello Guys! Thanks be to GOD for safe arrival. I departed accra via Emirates on June 5th, 5:50pm and arrived in dubai about 5am. Then stayed another two hours transiting in Dubai and boarded another Emirates to JFK and arrived there 3:01pm. Everything was easy at Port of Entry JFK, it was closed to 10 mins and I was done. I had to board my next flight to North Carolina but was told the flight was cancelled, so they got me a hotel in NY, closer to the Airport. Had a tough time in NY, no one has time for anyone, everyone seems so busy and not willing to help you with directions. I left hotel early in the morning by 5:am to JFK to board my flight for NC by 8 am. I didn't know the right terminal where I was departing, I had to ask and people kept giving me wrong directions. When I finally found where I was departing, My flight had already left and so they scheduled me for the next one which was 5pm. I had to sit all those hours waiting and finally I got in NC by 6:48pm. It was a long journey but worth it. Presently I am loving the weather in North Carolina than NY, NY is cold.
My Green Card and Social security number will be arriving in two weeks or two and half weeks from now since I am already a week here today. My sponsor has his business here, so I started working with him the next day after I arrived. Will be looking for more jobs after my SSN arrives. I will stop here for now and I am wishing all of my colleagues a successful interview!

Thanks team MicVic.
and Marriedguy....We actually have never met in person yet. We are both graduate students and unable to afford the airfare several times. Plus, on top of that Nigeria has been very unsafe for American's...especially Christians.
You're welcome.. How do you guys plan to get around the requirement of having met in person in the last 2 years. Financial hardship?
Interviewed at Lagos today; recommended for revocation under 221g
in Waivers (I-601 and I-212) and Administrative Processes (221g)

I have been following your case and was so convinced there would be no issues for you two at the interview. I'm sorry for your pain. If I May ask...What Was his reason for not telling you, yes I filed before and lied about having a fiance and a child because I thought that was the only way to get out? His answer would be the deal breaker. Why, why why did he not just tell you this when he was asked. I asked my hubby the same questions with an open ear and no judgment on his answer. He said no, never and he was telling the truth. What scares me is he did not tell you the truth when he had every opportunity to do so. Why?
