If you petitioned your sister, you are required to complete an I-864 even if you don't make enough. The most recent tax return is required of you or a signed statement why you were not required to file a return. No point in offering other evidence if you don't have enough income to qualify.

If your son is the one with enouh salary, he also does an I-864. The latest complete tax return (or tax transcript) is required, but he may supplement that with an employer letter verifying his employment and salary, and 6 months of pay stubs.

That means I have to complete two I864 separately and also provide two tax return, one for myself and one for my son. Thought just my sons will be enough. Thanks!

  2. copying information from Nick-Nich regarding the DS-3025:

Do you need an I-693 immunization sheet? Is my DS-3025 filled out properly?

Look at your DS-3025. If it has the ALL of the following items, you don't need an I-693 (Adults 19-49 yrs old).

    1. Shots marked with a date (at least one of a series)

MMR (two are required but if you have "insufficient time interval" checked, then you get a waiver)
Td or Tdap or DT or DTP or DtaP (One no longer than 10 years ago, ie.have a booster)
Varicella or VH written by it if you had chickenpox
Influenza (during flu season)** see note below because you are most likely okay without it.

    2. Everything else marked not age appropriate, insufficient time interval, not flu season...things that allow a waiver.

    3. RESULTS section filled in with "incomplete" and "may be eligible for blanket waiver" ticked or "complete" (but complete is rare).

    4. Signed and dated by the doctor

If it's not completed EXACTLY like that then see a civil surgeon for the I-693. If it is complete, send a photocopy of your DS-3025. Almost isn't good enough. It needs to be filled out properly.

  3. I saw there is a new rule regarding the I-693 on USCIS web site, does that mean we have to complete the form even we have the DS-3025 filled out properly?

"USCIS Issues New Policy on Form I-693, Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record

Starting June 1, 2014, USCIS will limit the validity period for all Forms I-693, Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record, to one year from the date of submission to USCIS. Applicants must also submit Form I-693 to USCIS within one year of the immigration medical examination. USCIS will also provide additional ways to submit Form I-693. As outlined in policy alert PA-2014-005, this updated policy applies to any Form I-693 supporting a benefit application that USCIS adjudicates on or after June 1, 2014.

USCIS will hold an engagement on June 12, 2014 to address questions about the new policy and provide guidance on filing Form I-693. We have also updated the Form I-693 Web page on our website."

  4. My fiance applied today for a Social Number. It was a breeze. The only comment made was 'wow he just entered, so he might not be in the SAIL Database- therefore we might have to cancel and re-apply in 1.5 weeks time. As it turned out he was in the system so all was well.

Very quick process indeed. It was helped by us filing out the SS application beforehand and giving it unsigned to the agent.

I am planning to apply for the SSN on the next day I arrive US, hope they wont have problem finding me in the system since it is electronic now.

Question on completing the form, on item number 5, it has "Legal Alien Allowed to Work" and "Legal Alien NOT allowed to work", i read some post here (forgot where) that we should check the box "Legal Alien Allowed to work", if we check "Legal Alien NOT allowed to work", it will confuse them and they might reject the application. Dont know if it's true, do you mind sharing which box did you check?

And did he go back the next day asking for the SSN?

    thanks

  5. What the Russian and Nigerian embassies did probably doesn't apply to a London case.

That's right, thanks tho Ikedi and Sam.

so i guess it is normal that it stays "ready" for 3 days, no need to send them contact form. They didn't do our interview scheduling unitl I sent them message and it was almost 6 weeks already when they see my message, if I didn't send the message, the wait will definitely be more than 6 weeks, I am just worried that it might happen again

can you please tell me how you submitted the missing documents? Thanks

    I already sent you a PM :)

  6. Had interview last week, it was not "approved" because one of the document is missing. They asked to send the missing document along with the passport by courier which I did on Monday, the status changed from "AP" to "ready" since Tuesday, however, it stays ready since tuesday, they did something yesterday but is still showing "ready" with below. I am worried that they forget us again....

Your case is ready for your interview when scheduled at the U.S. Consular section. If you have already scheduled an appointment for an interview, please prepare your documents as directed in your appointment letter and appear at the consulate on the appointed date and time. Otherwise, please wait until you have been notified of your interview appointment. Additional information about how Immigrant Visa interview appointments are scheduled can be found at: http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3731.html

For the interview that is approved, it goes to AP immediately and the Visa normally will be issued within the next two day, mine has been two days and its not even going to AP for processing.... Anyone had experience that they need to send document after the interview and how long did it take for them to issue the visa?

  7. that is correct, now that the I-94 is electronic (a very recent thing, so the guide hasn't been updated yet), you can do so immediately!

You won't know the SSN the same day - they just put in your application and one hasn't been assigned yet.

If it's in the system they may be willing to provide you with it; when you apply ask them if you can get the number if you come here sooner, so you can open bank accounts and the such.

That's a good news! I want to get my SSN before the end of the year but still waiting for embassy to process my visa.

    1. Apply for his SSN before you get married, ASAP, actually; with the I-94 going electronic there is no need to wait anymore.
    2. Take a copy of his I-94, his passport, and a print out of this page, which lists all the visas and the SSN eligibility, and write down his A#.
    3. It depends on each SSA office. Ours took 45 minutes... others took hours. Expect it to take about 2-3 hours.

If they try to tell you he is not eligible for a SSN, show them that printout I linked, if they claim they cannot find him in the system, have them look him up by A#.

If they insist he's not eligible, insist to speak with a supervisor.

If you apply within 2 weeks of when his I-94 expires you'll have to wait until his EAD arrives. If he is changing his last name, you'll want to apply before your marriage, but in general it's best to apply before your marriage anyways, as it seems to short circuit some of the SSA agents when a K1 visa holder gets married. They seem to be under the impression that a K1 visa holder, magically loses their K1 visa status once they're married.

Once you've applied expect it to take 4-6 weeks to show up at your door.

Hi, I just want to make sure it is not necessary to wait 2 weeks now? because the guideline said to wait at least 2 weeks. I would like to apply immediately if we don't have to wait.

Also, will the SSN number be generated on the same day we walk in to the SSN office? I know it takes a while to get the SSN card but can we know our SSN on the same day?

    thanks

  8. Yes, you can apply for the SSN right after entry with the K-1. Filing in the maiden name is best anyway because a lot of SSA workers insist your name match what it is their system or they cannot give you an SSN and need to send it off for verification. Just apply in your maiden name before or after you are married, then get it changed to your married name once you have the EAD in your married name. If you are a male and not changing your name, then none of the name changing issues matter for you.

You can use the I-94 to get the SSN as long as you have at least 2 weeks left before it expires. If you wait until after that, you will need the EAD or green card in order to apply for the SSN.

You need both the EAD and SSN to be able to work.

Thanks! do you know if we will get the SSN number on the same day, I know it takes them 2 weeks or more to mail the card, i am just wondering if I can have the SSN number before I get the card.

  9. ssn done via walkin at ssa office, for a k-1 visa holder.

there are some caveats - suggest you get to the ssn subforum, have a read in the pinned topic.

    Thanks Darnell!

Do yourself a big favor and :guides: easily accessible at the top of the forum page. In particular, the K1/K3 AOS Guide: http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1k3aos

There is a lot of great info and tips on the AOS process.

You should also review this great thread, particularly Nich-Nick's great posting about I-693 and how it fits into the AOS process: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/428381-i-693-report-of-medical-examination-and-vaccination-report/page-3#entry7127875

Good luck on your immigration journey.

Thanks, I read the guide Step-by-Step Guide on How to File for Adjustment of Status for K1 and K3 Visa Holders

but it didn't mention anything about SSN, so i am confused if the EAD card is equivalent to SSN.

Great info regarding medical :) I have also been researching information about medical requirement after entering to the USA.

    Print out your I-94 info > https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov/I94/request.html

Follow this guide for getting the SSN > http://www.visajourney.com/content/ssn

Follow this guide for AOS > http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1k3aos

The fees are listed here > http://www.uscis.gov/i-485

The fees for the I-765(EAD-work authorization) and I-131(AP-advance parole for travel) are waived when filed with a pending I-485, so include both of those too. It takes about 60-90 days to receive the EAD/AP combo card, which will allow you to work(along with an SSN) and re-enter the US when traveling abroad while waiting for the green card approval.

You need all the supporting documents for each form as well, so read the instructions for each one. You can also search here on VJ for what to include with each form if you get stumped. There are also example forms here on VJ you can look at when filling out the forms. They can be helpful.

Oh, and here are the details you need about whether or not you need to see a civil surgeon > http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/428381-i-693-report-of-medical-examination-and-vaccination-report/?p=6206232

you said It takes about 60-90 days to receive the EAD/AP combo card, which will allow you to work(along with an SSN)”, does that mean if I apply for EAD, I don't have to apply for SSN?

Also, under SSN guide, it said "As a K-1 Visa Holder you are eligible to receive a SSN upon producing a valid I-94", does that mean I can apply SSN before I get married to my Fiancé in USA?

Expecting my Visa in two weeks, so want to see what are the options first, if I can, i want to apply for SSN first. thanks!

  10. As per the VJ, below are the documents we need to file after entered USA with K1 visa and get married:

I-485 Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status

I-864 Affidavit of Support Under Section 213A of the Act

    I-765 Application for Employment Document

    I-131 Application for Travel Document

Is that it? How about for SSN, is it a seperately form we need to complete for applying a SSN?

    Thanks

  11. It's appropriate to check on it since it's been that long unless you put a planned date of marriage that is still months off. Use the contact form http://london.usembassy.gov/niv/visa_contact_form.html

Tell them your readiness form was submitted 32 days ago. Give the dates of your medical and DS-160 submission. Say something like...please confirm that you are awaiting nothing further from me.

I acutally have sent them a contact form on 10/2 to check if everything is ok and surprisingly, they response to me on the next day, it said they have everything and we will hear from them within 6 weeks. (When I submit the DS-160, I put 10/26 as the planned date of marriage)

I have been waiting but I see a lot of members submitted the readiness form in Oct got their interview letter already, I got worried so I reply to that email they sent me on 10/3 last friday (10/17), haven't heard from them as of now.

the last update on CEAC is 10/3, seems like it was the day they checked my status and reponsed to my email and since then, it has never been touched.

  12. Sorry to hear this! I would be going absolutely mad.

Not good news and i've never heard of it happening?

Are you sure you submitted and signed everthing off correctly etc?

Your internet didnt cut out just as you pressed submit or similar

We have kind of similar timelime for sending the readiness form (i sent it on 9/20), just that i have my medical done already in early septemeber, i still havent received any letter and the last update on CEAC is 10/3 :(
