Hi! Not exactly Finnish/American but I'm Finnish and my husband is an Indian citizen living in California for the last six years. He's a green card holder and will be applying for citizenship next year. Previously, he used to live in Singapore, I used to live in the UK, now I'm temporarily residing in Helsinki and we're waiting for me to be able to move to California (SF Bay Area). ☺️ Tsemppiä kaikille!

Hi Saana!!!! Welcome!!!! Glad you found your way here! Make sure you keep us updated on your process!

Can anyone advise me on CR-1 vs K-1 visa processing times in Helsinki? My partner and I are trying to decide which is the best option for us. We are currently living in Finland, I am a US citizen with a Finnish residence permit and she is Native Finn. We are planning to marry soon and would like to continue our life in the US as soon as possible.

I would personally go for the K1 versus the CR1 given the turnaround times are a big difference and with the huge backlog of petitions in the USA it is known that the K1 Visas tend to move faster versus the CR1. It was still the same back when we did all of that. But as someone else stated either way it is not a fast process unfortunately and depending on the service center in the USA and such you're assigned to and vice versa it just depends. I think you need to do what you both find to make you the happiest. Would it make you happier marrying in Finland or in the USA and such which is the most important thing in my opinion!

Approved! 🥳 They said it currently takes 2-3 weeks to process the visa but it seems I might be able to leave before the end of the month. There seems to be some flights with convenient connections available, at least for now, so let’s hope they don’t get cancelled.

YAY! That's wonderful news to hear!!! I'm sure you're both extremely excited!

You need 5 passport photos that are the Finnish size to the medical. It says 6 but she actually only needs 5. You should ask her if they could use your American size ones.

We just got approved on Wednesday too! 😍🥳 https://www.eiransairaala.fi/fi/Palvelut/Todistukset/Viisumitodistus

    Thank you!

Ah great - we live in New Jersey, I’m originally from a small town about an hour from Tampere actually,  but came to the US a few years ago after several years in London. My husband is from the Dominican Republic but has lived most of his life in the US.

Very neat! What part of NJ do you live in? I grew up in Northern Jersey in a town called Mahwah in Bergen County :)

    Hey everyone!

A Finnish - American (well Dominican/American) couple here. I sent my AOS package about a month ago and have my biometrics appointment this week.

    Whereabouts is everyone located?

Hey there welcome!!! Congrats on sending in your AOS :) My wife and I live in Maryland and she is from Tampere. How about you both?

Hey, I had a interview and we got approved yay!!❤️ I’m planning to leave end of July. I wanted to ask if there is anything I should definitely bring with me to The States for the marriage and for the adjustment of status, like documents etc? Just so I don’t need to mail anything cause it takes forever😅 Thanks!

Congratulations on the approval that is wonderful and exciting news! Definitely Birth Certificates a few copies of.

    Okay! Thank you everyone😊

You're very welcome! One thing I must mention when you go for your Medical is make absolute sure they check off that you received your Chickenpox Vaccine and that they put the date when you received it. They had mentioned it wasn't needed when she went and we ended up having to do the entire thing over again with a Civil Surgeon in the USA as we received an RFE when you do your adjustment of Status (I-485)
