  1. Thanks Karen for correcting me. Dan got his permanent residence card in the mail yesterday. Man was that ever quick. We do have two years to lift the conditions as you stated for his 10 year. No interview! It was transferred to California. And YES we just beat the fee increase. The one positive about the whole process. Got stuck in the IMBRA fiasco, but we made it. Started this whole thing March 06, 2006 and we are finally done a year and eight months later. He is sooooooooo totally worth it though! Love telling people I paid for and imported my husband. ;) Thanks for all the well wishes!

  2. Well we got Dan's adjustment of status approval letter today in the mail!!!!:thumbs: We now have two years to file for his green card. SOoooo glad that this is over for the time being. This was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. Thanks to everyone for their support and for answering my questions. I'm sure I will have more when it comes time to file for his green card. :)

  3. Okay...I did the whole fiancee visa thing with help from this site. Dan has his social security card and number now. I have to admit now that I am stumped. I've read the guides on the AOS and have some questions. So here goes. Dan was told at the social security office that he is allowed to work. They showed us his form from The Department of Homeland Security and it said he was authorized for employment. We saw this with our own four eyes. His social security card says something along the lines of able to work with authorization. Soooo does this mean he can work now? I get the whole AOS part, but am having a hard time with the EAD part of this. It says it's optional. What does that mean? Doesn't he have to have an EAD after the original 90 days is up? How much is this? Someone just clue a dumb chica in and tell me what I need to do!!!!!!! :help::help:

  4. Thanks ever so much for all the replies. We will go and get his SSN the week of June 25th. We want to get married 07-07-07. Hopefully we can find a JP to marry us on a Saturday. Then we will send off his AOS paperwork and his EAD. We won't be needing an AP. Thanks so much for explaining what that is. You saved me some money. Another questions though, he didn't get to keep anything from his interview. They in fact kept my original paystubs, original income tax returns, my bank statements, and my letter from employer and bank. I did however make copies of the paystubs, income tax returns, my bank statements, and got my employer and bank to do two letters (so I have two originals). Can anyone tell me why they kept these instead of keeping the copies I sent with Dan? And when he goes for his interview will the copies be adequate? Also as far as the vaccination form. He has his vaccination record. Is this all he will need to have to take to the civil surgeon? This seriously has me  ! LOL

  5. Please help me. I've read the guides but am still quite confused. My fiancee just came over from Canada on June 9th with his K-1 visa. What do we do now? We need to know about his SSN, his driver's license, his EAD, his AOS, and all of the misc ####### to go with. What should we file for first? I also see that the fees are going to increase as of July 30th. If we go ahead and get married and get this all rolling will we end up having to send in extra money if it's still in process or what? HELP HELP HELP!!! :help:

  6. Dan had his interview Friday, June 1st and his Visa was approved. We are awaiting it's arrival in the mail and Dan will be back ASAP! I'll let him review the consulate and how his interview went. It only took from March 2006 to June 2007 to get the USA and Canada to approve us getting married! I'm so glad it isn't taking everyone else this long any more. IMBRA really screwed up things last year. Anywho! I'll be posting more I am sure since we will be needing help with his AOS. Thanks so much for listening to me gripe and for all the help. This place is the BOMB!

  7. I posted this in another thread, but wanted to start my own.

"Okay help a girl out here. Dan is on his way back to Canada with our *holy grail* (all the ####### he needs for this fiancee visa thingee!!!) My question is this. He has the blank DS-156 (two of these) and a DS-156K. They were sent to him by the embassy in Montreal. Now he is going to fill the DS-156 in duplicate and not sign and fill out the DS-156K (just one as instructed) and not sign either until he is in front of the interviewer in Montreal. Now are we missing something here in regards to filling stuff out electronically? Nothing in packet 3 mentions doing anything electronically!!! HELP HELP HELP!!! He is scheduled on June 1st and I need to let him know now. Thanks in advance!!

I'm thinking the reason we weren't told to do the DS-156 online is because his Packet 3 was mailed out last year in September/October. We mailed the checklist back as instructed, but included were the DS-156 and the DS-156K with instructions to complete them, not sign them, and bring them to the interview. There were not instructions to do anything online. Since it has been so long since they sent this out would it be smart to just do these online?? Even though our instructions plainly state to bring them to the interview?? Also is there going to be a problem that we didn't send in the DS-156 already with our checklist? Like I said at the time we got packet 3 they were not doing this filling stuff out online thing.

Also have some questions in regards to answering this silly form.

    22. When Do You Intend To Arrive In The U.S.?

(Provide specific date if known) Don't know the date because it hinges on his visa approval??

    26. How Long Do You Intend To Stay in The U.S.?

    What is the correct response?

    27. What is The Purpose of Your Trip? To get married??

    32. Do You Intend To Work in The U.S.? Yes No

(If YES, give the name and complete address of U.S. employer.)Of course he intends to work, but he has no idea who for yet???

    36. Has Anyone Ever Filed an Immigrant Visa Petition on Your Behalf?

Yes No If Yes, Who? Is this a no??? I have filed a visa petition for him??

Okay I think that is it. Help a chick out! :help::help::help:

  8. Okay help a girl out here. Dan is on his way back to Canada with our *holy grail* (all the ####### he needs for this fiancee visa thingee!!!) :) My question is this. 9. Well, we spoke to the rental car company. They said it would be okay. We only had one problem. Dan doesn't have a car so he has no insurance. He can't be put on my insurance because we are not married. So an insurance package added to the rental, plus the fact that he is only 24 made the price for renting him a car $2000.00 US. Needless to say, that is a no go! So we are back to him riding that big grey dog back to Canada and then riding it back after his Visa gets approved.

Now I need to know if anyone has ever shipped their belongings from Canada to the states. Dan has some fairly large sized speakers, his computer, a rubbermaid of memories, and a few other things we would like to get here for him. Anyone know who is the cheapest and what is the best way to go about this?

Also he plans on going up to York Toronto (not sure if this is right) to the CRMP up there to get his criminal background check. We have issues with his name as he has always assumed his middle name was his first name and vice versa. Which is what we put on our application. Now we know because of his birth certificate and speaking to others that his thought to be middle name is actually his first and vice versa.... I told him the best thing to do was get a Canada wide report on both names with his birthdate. Anyone know how much these cost and how long it will take to get back?

His medical is scheduled for May 23rd. This I at least know how it will go and how much it is. His interview is June 1st. All of this is going to drive me crazy. I am so ready for June 2nd lol.

  10. Just to clarify and see if this makes a difference. I will rent the car here in Alabama and Dan will drive to Canada by himself with the dog. Keep the car for the 3 weeks it takes for his appointment and then go to his interview. He will then drive the car back here to Alabama and we would return it then. :) Does this make a difference????

  11. You can add our interview date. :) June 1st. FINALLY!!!! Almost six months waiting for the Consulate in Montreal after waiting 8 months in the United States after the IMBRA #######. Sheeeesh. Hard to believe it's been going on for over a year now! Let's get this stuff done and over with!

  12. June 1st!!!! OMG! Not even a month away! Took long enough. Now for a few questions! Dan will be leaving (he's been visiting me here in Alabama) to head back up to Canada. We have his medical appointment scheduled for May 23rd. Now for my questions.

1- We want to rent a car for a month (rent here and return here in Alabama). Do you know of any problems with him crossing the border in a rental car?

2- He wants to take our dog with him to Canada. (I am a nurse and just recently signed a contract to work 3 to 4 12 hour shifts. So noone will be home to take the dog out while I am at work.) The dog has all of his shots and has been neutered. Any problems with this?

3- How long does it take to get your Criminal Background Check? (We realize it has to be Canada wide. He has never had a problem with the law.)

Thanks in advance for the help!

  13. GRRRRRRR! We have two people that mailed in their packet 3 end of December with interviews and we still have not heard about an appointment for us (packet 3 sent in end of November)! I am about to pull my freaking hair out here... Congrats to you with interviews...but dangit I'm pissed!!!

  14. Dan talked to the Consulate on Tuesday. They said our file was complete and was in a group that they were working on making appointments for. She said May/June. *sigh* It's been over a year now since we started this journey. I can't wait for it to end. They have had our packet 3 since November. Appears we are the last one in November to get an appointment. I'll definitely get pissed if people who sent theirs in after us get appointments before we do. This is getting to be totally ridiculous.

  15. *sigh* I can feel your pain. We started this journey last March and we have yet to get an interview date. Packet 3 was received and the checklist mailed in back in the middle of November. We emailed and have called and we heard back on February 13th that we will hear about an interview in 4-12 weeks. So we have a month to three months for them to play with. Then of course the dang interview won't be for another month or two after that. This has been the most frustrating ####### I have had to deal with in my life! I can't wait for it to be OVER!

  16. Can someone give me the number that you call to find out if your appointment has been scheduled in Montreal. I've seen reference to it a couple of times. We sent back the checklist back in November and we got an email telling us that our file is complete and are awaiting a date for the interview. Can someone help a chic out please!!! :help:

  17. Dan has tried on two occasions to get through to the consulate in Montreal with no success. Just alot of of time on hold. Can someone tell me what it is we need to do in regards to changing his address. He is currently visiting here in the states and his parents whom he lives with moved. So his packet 4 will be going to his old address and I don't believe they forward this type of mail?? Correct?? Can we email the consulate and if so...where??

  18. I have a couple of questions that need to be answered. Dan is currently here staying until he gets a date for an interview. I have a couple of problems that need answers. Dan in going to get his passport found out that after 23 years of being on this Earth thinking his name is Daniel Joseph is actually Joseph Daniel. His passport and his birth certificate all have Joseph Daniel, but our paperwork and everything we have received from USCIS has his name as Daniel Joseph as he thought that was his name. What kind of problem is this going to cause? Also since we filed his parents have moved and only have a PO BOX for their mail. How do we get a change of address to the consulate so that Dan can get his packet 3 and 4? HELP A GIRL OUT!!! LOL
