  1. Hi everyone,

Today my fiance and I got down to SFO. We both filled out 2 different customs forms, but when we got to the front of the Non-Citizen (even though I am a citizen,) line the officer threw his form out and used mine for both. He looked at our passports and took my fiance's fingerprints and photo of his eye. He asked a couple of questions like how do you know each other, when are you getting married, etc. Overall he was really nice. Then he sent us to a back room for secondary reasons (to give the yellow packet he recieved from the embassy.) When we entered there were about 25 people waiting in the room. We dropped off the packet and both of our passports at the front. After about waiting for 30 minutes, my fiance was called over by a really nice officer to ask him a few questions. He asked me to wait in the waiting room. After about 10 minutes my fiance came back with both of our passports. He was asked things like where have you lived, you know you have 90 days to get married, etc. His was stamped on his visa and was written that he can stay until September 21, 2014. None of the papers in the yellow packet were given back. Then at the baggage area the officer there once again asked us when we were getting married, what we did for a living, etc. He also checked our bags. Finally, we were able to exit(:

    Now my questions are:

    1) Is everyone sent into the secondary room, or were we sent in for random reasons (fishiness, country of origin, random security check, etc.?)

2)We were not given any of his documents from the sealed embassy envelope or any new documents stating that he has entered. We only recieved his passport with the stamp. I am really nervous about this. Is this normal?

    3) Now that he is here, WHAT ARE MY NEXT STEPS so he can become a permanent resident. Can someone please send me a link.

  2. What kind of GC does your aunt have?

I-90 is for replacement of GC though, not renewal. If she has the temporary 2-year GC, she should be filing for Removal of conditions, to get a permanent GC. But this depends on what her condition is, she can either apply for I-751 or I-829.

    I-90 info here: http://www.uscis.gov/i-90

Hi. She came under the spouse visa 10 years ago and then that expired. I made sure on the website that she was eligible! Any chance you know about the supporting documents? Thanks

  3. Hi everyone,

This question is not about my case.

My aunt renewed her green card using the electronic I-90 form. On the confirmation page it stated to submit any supporting documents IF NEEDED. But it didn't list what documents were needed, it just said visit uscis.gov. That website didn't show any of the supporting documents it just stated send them if needed.

Can anyone please tell me what these documents are? Should we wait for the Notice of Action? Will they state what the documents are?

  4. If you guys read my last post, you will be caught up.

My fiancé was given a green slip to pick up his passport and visa the day of his interview the next Sunday. When he arrived on Sunday, the embassy wasn't able to see everyone due to a thunderstrom. He was told to email the embassy.

We emailed the embassy but have received nothing yet, it has been 4 days.

This is the timeline of our ceac status:

    Case Creation: March 24

Update: April 7 Ready(given an interview appointment)

Update: April 27 Ready(day of interview)

    Update: May 1 Ready

    Update: May 3 Ready

    Case Creation Date Changed!!!!!:

    May 4th

    Update: May 4th Ready OPEN

    Update: Administrative Processing

Can someone please tell me what's going on?? He should have had his passport in his hands last Sunday! Why is it showing AP now?? I thought if the Creation date has changed it is a good sign!

  6. Hi everyone! I just wanted to share my journey with you all, hopefully it will help some of you.

Today may be my final day of waiting for my fiance's visa, god willing.

My dates may be a little off on this post, but on my timeline they are accurate.

I sent in my I-129F packet on January 27, 2014 and it was recieved on February 4, 2014. I got my NoA1 soon after in the mail.

My NoA2 was approved in about 31 days. I am so grateful because I know that is extremely fast!

I had an attorney helping me, and he advised me to wait for the hardcopy and then my fiance could fill out the DS-160.

About two weeks later, I called NVC to see if they had recieved my packet. The guy on the phone was really nice and even gave me extra information without me asking (how to schedule an interview, when the packet left NVC.)

My packet reached Kabul. Afghanistan within three days. My case was created on March 24, 2014.

I proceeded to check out the Kabul Embassy website, and luckily I found a link to make interview appointments for Non-Immigrant Visas! I went ahead and made an appointment for April 29, 2014. When I posted on VJ about it, a really kind user informed me that the K-1 visa may technically be a NI, but it was processed as an Immigrant Visa.

I went ahead and emailed the Kabul Embassy and informed them of the mix up. They were incredibly nice and rescheduled the interview to April 27, 2014! Two days earlier!! :dancing:

Soon after I emailed the Medical Clinic and requested an appointment. The appointment was for April 19, 2014. My fiance went to the appoint and paid the $500 fee. All went well and he was told to pick up his results one day before his interview.

I want to point out that for Afghanistan(at least in my case) NO PACKET 3 OR 4 OR ANY OF THAT WAS GIVEN. It is my advice to not to wait around for it. Once my interview appointment was made, I recieved a confirmation email and the email also stated the additional documents. Affidavit of Support, Pictures, Medical, ETC.

A POLICE CERTIFICATE IS NOT NEEDED FOR AFGHANISTAN OR PAKISTAN.

    Now the interview:

He went through about three security checkpoints and then handed his papers to different windows. He also made a payment for $240.

During his interview he had a translator. The officer interviewing him was very nice and even made a few jokes! After about seven questions (What does your fiance look like? Name some physical characteristics. What do you/her want to do in future? Would you change anything about her physically? etc.) he was given a green slip that stated something along the lines of: Pick up Passport/Visa Sunday 1-3.

I have checked his status on CEAC everyday since then but it has been stuck on ready since then. It was updated on April 27( interview day,) May 1, May 3, and May 4 (today, they are 12 hours ahead of us.)

Today he is going in to hopefully pick up his passport with his visa in it, if God wills it.

This website has been really helpful, and I would like to thank everyone who has helped me!

I hope this post will help guide at least one person!

I will update everyone when I find out if the visa was given to him, which will be latest 3:30 AM PST

    Wish us luck everyone!

P.S. if anyone has any questions, feel free to message me.

  7. Hi everyone,

So this question is completely unrelated to my case.

My future brother-in-law applied for a visa for his mom and it got approved(I'm not sure what type of visa she applied for but I know that she will get her 10 year Green Card!) She should be here on June 13. She also has a 20 year old disabled daughter that she will leave behind because my brother-in-laws lawyer never mentioned being able to do a joint application. He said that once his mother is here for 10 years, then she can apply for her daughter.

After reading posts on VJ, I feel like the lawyer may have provided false information. If the information is false, how can we start a petition for a visa for her daughter? Could it be immediately through her mother, or does she have to wait a certain time period?

    Thanks!

  8. Good morning!

It's a very simple process in scheduling an appointment at the US Embassy in Kabul. I was in Kabul in March of 2013 visiting my fiancé who now is my husband. They are very friendly when you go in for your appointment.

    Thanks,

    AD

Could you please tell me how you were able to schedule an interview date? In as much detail as possible please. Thank you!

  9. Yeah, I think you got bad advice. K1s are often processed as immigrant visas. From here http://kabul.usembassy.gov/immigrant-visas.html

For me that's exactly what happened, they sent me an email and we worked out an interview date. If I were you I'd try to contact the embassy, or at least check in the regional forum.

Thanks sharky-Rex! The page said for anyone who filed a DS 160 which I did. I didn't do the DS 260 but I will double check.

  10. Hi everyone,

So this morning I spent about 40 minutes on hold with the NVC, and when someone finally answered she only spoke to me for about a minute. She told me that I had to go to usembassy.gov and to my country to get an appointment.

I found Kabul and on that website I did the following:

    • Under Visas I clicked on Non-Immigrant Visas (I am filing for a K1 and filled out a DS 160)
    • Clicked on this link : http://kabul.usembas...for_a_visa.html.
    • Then clicked on a link that sent me to: evisaforms.state.gov
    • I clicked "Schedule an Appointment"
    • Then I filled out questions such as:
      • Surname
      • Given name
      • Passport Number
      • Barcode Number (OF DS 160 Confirmation page)
      • Email
      • Telephone

    • Next I was able to choose a date and time.
    • Printed out the Confirmation page

It was so easy! But that is exactly my concern! I feel as if it was too easy. Has anyone else gone through this method? Is the appointment date for the interview actually valid?

    Many thanks!

P.S. I'm not just asking about Kabul, I would like to know everyone's story.

  12. Thank you!

I still haven't recieved an email or letter in the mail from the NVC. I did call and they provided me with my case number. My case was made March 24, 2014 and updated to READY March 29, 2014! I don't know what to do next though because I don't have the letter with the invoice number....

Once you have the case number from NVC you go to https://ceac.state.gov/ceac/ check my application status choose Immigrant Visa (IV) enter the case number and it will say in transit once they send it to the embassy or ready if its there already i think.

If your ####### like me lol you may want to track further refer to http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/302190-dhl-tracking-from-nvc-to-us-embassy/ to try to find where your packet is although you might have to play around with the EXP date as it may be the day before, of or after

then you have to refer to your fiance's particular embassy/consulate in Afghanistan how they work as far as notifying when they are ready for him to either pick up a packet or email or whatever.

Personally i think i will start helping him with the DS160 as soon as i get the official notice in the mail from NVC that they sent it even though i already know they did ;)

  13. Hi everyone!

I was wondering if someone could answer my questions in as much detail as possible. Many thanks in advance!

    Timeline:

    NoA1: 02/04

    NoA2: 03/13

I received my hard copy of the NoA2. Now I know the next step is to wait for the NVC to give me a case number. I've gathered through this thread that I can try calling them for it. My questions are:

    1) Once I receive the case number, then what?

    2) Many people have mentioned that the ceac website says their case is READY. Ready for what?

    3) Being that my fiancé is in Afghanistan and the mail service there is unpredictable, can I sign up for communication through email? If so, how can I enroll?

    Thanks!
