  1. So weird everyone. Just wanted to share this in case anyone else experiences this in the future.

So my husband's case was approved and then on Novemeber 24, we received an update saying that the card was mailed! They didn't provide a tracking number though.

Today I got another update saying that card was mailed!!! We were like WHAT? I checked USCIS website and now that it moved onto the delivered stage it provided a tracking number. When I checked it it stated it was delivered to LEES SUMMIT. So I called uscis and after being rebadged I was put on hold for about 50 minutes. When I spoke to the man on the phone he wanted to reassure that our address was current, which it is. He then said it's possible because my husband isn't registered at the post office for the address! So weird because all of his other papers and EAD came without an issue. But he requested that they resend it with "in care of" my last name. He said the card or either a letter should be here by Wednesday. We live with my parents. I hope it comes by Wednesday it's been so long!

  2. Hello,

My husband and I just received his welcome letter and an update that his card was mailed today!!!

I just had a few final questions:

    1) He should no longer use his EAD/A.P once the green card actually arrives, correct? We should just put it away for safe keeping? ex: if he has a job offer show green card and not EAD

    2) We received his Social Security Card while he was still here on his K-1 and it states "not authorized to work...." so we should go back to the social security office with his physical green card so he can receive a normal SS card, correct?

    3) Since he was approved in November of 2014 his card will expire in November of 2016. That means we will have to file for the Removal of Conditions in August of 2016?

Sorry for the questions, we were not approved the same day as our interview so our IO didn't give us any information. I know the answer to most of these but I rather be safe than sorry.

  3. My interview was on November 18. We weren't left with any real answers, no paper given to us so I was really nervous. Today I checked my case status online and received this:

On November 19, 2014, we registered your permanent resident status and mailed you a Welcome Notice for Receipt Number xxx Please follow the instructions in the notice. Your new permanent resident card should arrive by January 18, 2015, after this registration or after you complete any ADIT processing referred to in the welcome notice, whichever is later. If you move, go to www.uscis.gov/addresschange to give us your new mailing address.

Is this the approval my husband and I have been so desperately waiting for?? Are all welcome notice case statuses like this?

    Also, what is ADIT?

  4. You should get response soon. I'm sure if there was anything missing on your file or if any thing had gone wrong on the interview they would told u. Sometimes it could take a couple of days for them to give u a response. Sometimes if the IO is new he may need a supervisor to review the case with him and that could take a couple of days. I know it sucks waiting but all u can do now is wait and hopefully get the good news today or tomorrow. If don't here anything give them a call tomorrow? Best of luck I will be praying for u ???

Thank you so much for your kind words!! They honestly helped bring me to ease.

  5. Check your status online over the next couple of weeks and wait.

I'm surprised that she didn't give you any indication about what will happen next or when you will get the green card. However, I suspect that since your husband is Afghani, they might spend a bit more time on the background checks.

    Good luck!

Yeah that's what I'm worried about that too. At the time I didn't know she was supposed to hand me a letter or anything. But he already had a background check when he was getting his K-1. And thank you!

  6. Hello all,

Today my husband and I had our interview for his greencard. Our appointment was at 1:35 and we got there early. They called us in at about 1:45. We had brought an interpreter with us but the immigration officer said one was not needed because my husband's English was good enough.

She seemed nice, but she was still very serious about it all. She asked questions: Address, who do you live with, who supports you, what do you do for work, etc. Then she read the list of questions that all were "no." My husband sometimes asked her to repeat the question and she would get kind of annoyed at that but he wanted to make sure he answered everything honestly with a complete understanding. This is exactly why we brought the interpreter but the officer said she was not needed.

She then asked us when we got married, who proposed, when did we get engaged, how we met, etc. I told her that my husband is my mom's cousin. This is legal in California. She went on to ask "Is this allowed here?" I said, "Yes, it is." She then asked us about our future plans. We told her we planned on moving out after I graduate college, and to start looking for jobs for the both of us. She asked if those were the only plans we had for this year and next. My husband mentioned that we are going to have a party of January 9, 2015 as a moving out party with my family.

We gave her pictures of our small court wedding. She asked why the person who married us wasn't in the pictures. I said because the lady specifically asked us not to take pictures until after the ceremony was over because it would interrupt her. Our officer did not look at the other 50 pictures that we brought of our relationship.

She took copies of our ids and passports, and then said "If we need anything else we will contact you." We thanked her and she walked us to the door.

The thing is, I have read that everyone else gets some type of LETTER stating their current status. We didn't recieve anything! She didn't even give us our interview letter back.

I'm very worried because I do not know what do next or what to expect. Can anyone give me any words of advice? Thank you.

  8. Hi everyone,

    • Interview Letter
    • NoA1 for 485
    • All NoAs for AoS
    • Employment Authorization Card
    • SSN (Mine and my husband's)
    • Birth Certificates (both of ours)
      • Plus his English Translation
    • Marriage Certificate (certified copy)
      • Plus additional copy
    • Passport (both of ours)
      • Plus copies of bio pages
      • Plus copy of Husband's K-1 VISA
    • 2013 Taxes
      • Sister-in-law (co-sponsor)
        • 2013 irs tax trascript
        • 2 or 3 months of pay stubs
      • Me (the Wife)
        • 2013 irs tax transcript
        • No pay stubs(unemployed)
    • Copy of Husband's Vaccination Sheet
    • A copy of our AoS packet that we sent in originally
    • Extras:
      • Bank statements:

        Pictures:

        Journal:

        • Joint Account from Bank of America
        • Credit Card with him as an authorized user from Bank of America (2 different credit cards)
          • It could only be authorized because he had no credit history, so the bank said it was a good way to build credit for him
        • Credit Card with him as an authorized user from Chase
          • It could only be authorized because he had no credit history, so the bank said it was a good way to build credit for him
        • Many, many pictures from dates, family events, Religious Holidays, and marriage ceremony
        • Pictures from my trip to pick him up and bring him to the US
          • Family pictures, dates, etc.
        • Detailed, documented journal of all my experiences since Jan 2013
    • Do I have to bring anything else in that's signed? I read in some places they bring in signed i-864(We already turned those in with the packet we sent originally,) and g-325a(sent those in already too.)

I am still an undergraduate at the University of California, Berkeley. Due to this, we still live with my parents and I do not have a job. So I cannot apply for any joint insurance yet. We also do not have a lease or any utilities because my parents pay for everything. They are kind enough to give us a head start in life. I am graduating this December and we plan on moving out right away. I also have job interviews set up in December. So until then I won't have anything of that nature. This is what I am worried about? Will it be okay?

Also, we only had a marriage ceremony with our elder family members because truth be told we are not rich and simply can't afford one. If we want can we throw a party later on? Like a grad party combo lol

BTW by the time our interview takes place we will only have been married for 4 MONTHS.

  9. Congrats!! I'm really happy that you guys are finally done, at least for 2 years lol.

I'm so nervous! I've never tested well lol. The thought of my husband being taken away from me just because an officer feels like it heart wrenching for me.

So we have everything that you stated(also adjusting from k-1), but I feel like we don't have a lot of "joint documents."

    This is what we have:

    Bank statements:

    • Joint Account from Bank of America
    • Credit Card with him as an authorized user from Bank of America (2 different credit cards)
      • It could only be authorized because he had no credit history, so the bank said it was a good way to build credit for him

      • Family pictures, dates, etc.

    3. Fingerprint Appointment Letter

    4. NOA1 of AOS

    5. My papers from K-1 visa processing: I-129F NOA1&NOA2, Letter from US Embassy Manila

    6. Marriage Certificate

    7. Birth Certificate

    8. Recent (2months) pay stubs

    9. papers which contains my name as a beneficiary: health insurance, 401K, life insurance

we bought pictures from our wedding and from our vacation in los angeles and san diego..

the interviewer was a Filipino so we were comfortable talking to each other. Questions asked from me: complete name, birthdate, address, and the yes or no questions from the AOS papers like if you are a terrorist, communist etc.. and he also asked us how we met, how many times did my husband visit me when I was in the Philippines (like we were in our K-1 visa interview hahahaha) then he asked my hubby about his work, what's his specialty (coz he's a chef), what is a sous chef's job. then he asked if we brought some proof of joint assets and he took the copy of the health insurance, 401K and life insurance. He also scanned our photo album and he asked if he can take some of the pictures to include in our file (I guess he took 5 pictures) After that he explained about the conditional green card about filing for removal of conditions within 90days before it expires. Lastly, He gave me a letter explaining that my case will still be reviewed and they will send me a letter if it is approved then my green card will follow.

My appointment was 1pm and we went out of USCIS at 2pm.. and at 2:30pm I received an email (case update) it already went to card production. Oh well, I guess I'm approved.hahaha Thank God!

  10. No way of knowing for certain how long the wait will be, if your MIL is intending to apply for Citizenship then it should speed up a bit.

Now the practicality of bring a Disabled Person to the US is another issue.

This question seems very familiar, did you ask it before?

Hi! I have but for some reason when I checked "my content" all of my old posts were missing! And thank you for your answer. Would being disabled be used negatively against her?

She would age out into the F2B category, which is about 7 to 8 years for the PD to become current. If mom becomes a USC, may not make a difference, right now F2B PD's are ahead of F1. She should petition for her as soon as she can so that the process can be underway. She should also remain unmarried while mom is an LPR, otherwise the petition would be revoked.

Thank you so much! So your advice is to just start the process right away because even though she will fall out of the F2A we might as well just start/

  11. Hi everyone,

If someone could please help me I would greatly appreciate it. My mother-in-law who just became an LPR wants to bring her disabled daughter to the USA. However, the problem is that her birthdate is March 11, 1994.... making her 20. She would turn 21 in 3 months. So does that mean she will "age out" and no longer be considered a minor that has to wait between 2-5 years? Will she move into the 21 and over category even though she wants to file for her daughter before she turns 21?

If she does become considered as the 21 and over will she have to wait the average 10 years?

  12. Hi,

My brother-in-law who is a Canadian permanent resident would like to visit the US. He would just be coming here to visit his family. I know he has to apply for a B2 visa, but can someone explain the steps for me?

Would we have to file from here as petitioners, or can he do the entire process from the Vancouver Embassy?

Also, what types of documents would he need? Ex: Passport, permanent resident card.

If anyone could list out the process step by step I would greatly appreciate it.

  13. HI! Do you mind me asking how many days later you recieved the combo card? Sorry if we're being antsy. It took about 75 days for it to be approved, and now the wait for the card is a killer): We just want it so my husband can FINALLY apply for his drivers license. The DMV won't let us start even the permit process with a print out of the case status. They want the 797 or the actual card.

I had a similar experience. EAD was approved and in card production while AP was still in post-activity. I did end up getting my combo card and I never got a tracking number. It showed up a few days later.

    ---- UPDATE:

I flew home (Canada) using my AP/EAD combo card. I didn't have much trouble but because i haven't gotten my GC, I had to go into secondary inspection where they put another card into my passport. It was a delay of 15 minutes. I also used my nexus thinking I could but I was told not to use it until I get the LPR status and update my nexus card. I was told until I get LPR, I would have to do this every time I travel back into the US.

Any idea if we should be inquiring about our interview? We haven't even gotten notice of interviews yet.

    Thanks!

  14. @ Nowry123456. You don't need to worry. It takes approx 7 to 8 days from approval for your card to be produced before it's being mailed. Once USPS picks up your card you'll receive another notification (email/text or whichever notification settings you suggested) and with it you'll see a tracking # on your case status at USCIS to track your package home. Based on your approval date, you should have your EAD/AP combo card mailed on Oct 13th and you should be getting it on the 15th.

Thank you! That really clarified things!!
