  1. Hello, everyone. My husband and I got in a heated argument last night and our nosy neighbors called the cops. The cops were wondering if I had been physically hurt by him and I insisted that I wasn't but it was just an argument. They looked at his work authorization card. It didn't appear that they took any info down but what can I expect? Can they deport him for suspicion of abuse? Are they going to notify the apartments? Has anyone experienced anything like this before. Please and thank you

  2. Hey, VJers!

My husband has just gotten a job here in the US. I was reading over the papers he received with his work authorization card and it has a comment saying that he is able to change jobs and to do so he would have to send paperwork to the already processing I-485 or something like that. Does he need to notify anyone that he got a job here while our I-485 is processing or to add that to our case somehow?

    Thank you!

  3. Hey, everyone! So I'm just in the waiting process for my filed AOS and getting a response for my husband's working papers but I'm in a bit of trouble. The last few months have been really hard on us. We had a totaled car, a new car with troubles, and it's turning out that the money I have isn't going to be enough for us. I am a graduate student who works for my education to be paid (no cash in hand) and I work part time besides that. I have a co-sponsor for my husband but I'm worried about us financially. If I were to apply for food stamps for myself temporarily until my husband can work (I know he can't receive them) will this hurt our chances of being accepted for the green card since my finances are not good and my cosponsor just qualifies? Thank you for any help.

  5. Hey, everyone!

    1) I just got married and my name is now changed through the Social Security administration and a few other things but the name change process is not complete. I don't think my bank completed the process. When filling out the forms do I use my new name even though my tax forms and everything have my maiden name? Also, when I write a check, will it be a problem if my old name is on it?

    2) Most of our forms are printed and filled out for AOS, we just got my husband's social security card. Is it okay if we write in his number on the form when the rest is typed?

    Thank you!

  6. Hey, everyone! My husband came on a K-1 visa and we applied for his SSN as soon as he got here but the travel document had his wrong name so we had to get that changed. We reapplied and they had to send the application to New York to the main office to be processed. I just found out he was denied....all of the applications ask for a SSN number for him. His 90 days is up August 10th. There is no way we can get his number that quick. Can we still submit our application?

  7. Hey, everyone!

I'm filling out the Affidavit of support and one of the questions is confusing me. Under part 6 there is a box you can click if:

I have filed a Federal tax return for each of the three most recent tax years. I have attached the required photocopy or transcript of my Federal tax return for only the most recent tax year.

and below it is another question

I have attached photocopies or transcripts of my Federal tax returns for my second and third most recent tax years.

I am attaching the 3 most recent tax years. So do I still need to check the first box saying only the most recent tax year or no?

    Thank you!

  8. Hey, guys! My fiance will come to the US tomorrow and I'm just reading through everything to become familiar with the process. It doesn't look like we will be able to get married until mid-July. He is arriving 5/13/15. The 90 days will be up 8/13/15. If we get married 7/13/15, that leaves us a month to submit everything for adjustment of status. Is this feasible? Can we get everything done in a month? Any suggestions on what to work on first and get done before we marry would be helpful. Any suggestions? I have looked through the guides on here.

  9. Hey, guys!

My fiance is coming to the US on K-1 next week! My mother called me and told me that the FBI left her a letter on her door. It said something like this: Ma'am, we are contacting you in regards to a foreign person who has been granted trust with the US government. If you could contact us so we can ask you some question please contact."

Is this legit? Why would they do that if he's already approved? Has anyone else had anything like this happen?
