Haven't been checking this website the last couple weeks and it's been nice. This forum was really helpful in the beginning of the US immigration process, but now it's just a source of anxiety lol. Just thought I'd let you guys know since I've been updating the list the majority of the time, so if anyone still cares about that someone else will have to do it. Visajourney has served it's purpose for me at this point, so i'm outies for good. Goodluck with everything guys

I am not going to waste my energy on this conversation. I prefer to remain positive and my positive attitude has seen me through this journey with no RFE's thus far. If you don't mind I shall leave you to your negative comments and enjoy my approval letter.

Unfortunately it's not the number of i751 applications that increased. For the last 3 years it seems like number is about the same on average. Little more or little less. What increased is the processing time. The reasons for that was DACA and refugy applications that skyrocketed and needed to be processed first ( you can check the number of their applications). Second, add USCIC mismanagement, outdated system, poor quality, lack of new hires. Which ended up in super long wait time for i751.

How is being with a loved one not a suitable goal. What you describe in citizenship is really more about convenience. Everyone is on this journey for their own reasons...how is theirs any less “suitable”than yours? Citizenship is much less important to me than being with my spouse.

Well the "mass transfer" thing is a system glitch just like a fee waiver we all got.
I been at infopass and they told me my case is in CSC and was not transferred to local office and it's VERY weird that I have such status. Then I said thousands people got it and been told something like "oh, then it makes sence, it's a glitch in a system".
I did I service request also, and even though I was requiring about the location of my case, I got generic answer that my case is in normal proceeding time. But the letter came straight from CSC.
So unless you receive a physical letter in a mail about transfer, 99% your case is still waiting its turn at the shelves at CSC.
I hope we will get there by the end of May.

Ok, so I heard back from Tier 2 and she said the case is in transfer now but she can't see where it's being transferred. She did mention it's weird that I heard from Queens office because most likely the case will be transferred to Philadelphia local office - for interview. The name and DOB notices I saw in the my.uscis.gov site, are most likely glitches she thinks. The transfer should take up to 3 weeks, hopefully from the notice date of March 5th.

So I just got off the phone with a Tier 2 officer. I explained everything to him, I even mentioned that there was discussion online
regarding whether or not this is a system glitch, or legitimate update and that many people have received the same update at once.
So he took my information, I mentioned that I had 2 different receipt numbers (one of which used to bring up an error). He put me on hold for
a couple minutes. When he came back he said that he looked in multiple places (in his system I assume) and it's still showing that my case
is at the California Service Center. He said that the case status thing was most likely an error. He also mentioned
that if my case had been transferred and that if I was scheduled for an interview that I would've received a letter in the mail as well.
I'm just going to go back to assuming the online case status system is not reliable and assume that I'm stuck waiting like I was a couple days ago

I just checked online and I have the same message about my file being transferred to my local office with the WAC number that came on my I797 letter, the one that normally gives the error message. The other WAC number still just acknowledges receipt of my application. My receipt date is Dec 12 2016

*Possibly* good news
All, I've been following this thread (and the sep, oct, nov 2016 filers thread) over the last few months, but haven't contributed until now. While reading through one of the other threads, I noticed someone mention checking their case status with the other WAC number.
As for most other people, my WAC number from the CR189 has shown the "received your case / fees were waived" message for a long time now. The WAC number from the I751 used to give me an error message. Today, it gave me a "we received your I751 petition at your local office" message.
I'm guessing with the long backlog at CSC, they forwarded my application to the local office. I figure this is good news, as I wasn't getting anywhere with CSC.
Some back ground, I applied for the I751 in dec 2016. Did not apply for N400 / citizenship. and the CR189 message shows Dec 19th 2016 as my case received date on the USCIS website. So hopefully that provided a reference timeline.
Did anyone else on the dec 2016 filers thread get a similar message?

nothing from CSC yet. I think a few approvals at VSC. If your end goal is to become a citizen and you're in a position to apply, you might as well get it over with. I personally can't afford the fee right now, but I'm honestly fine with taking my time and enjoy a break from USCIS for a while.

Exactly so. For my infopass appointment, they looked at my Extension letter, my green card, other government ID and my passport. Because my green card is in my maiden name, but I've requested a name change, she also looked at my marriage license. I had taken my entire ROC file (my copy of the application and my supporting documents) but it was unnecessary. This list was enough.

I got my passport stamped. I've found a info pass appointment in less than 24h. I've used google chrome, downloaded super auto refresh extension and set it to 30 seconds, also downloaded visual ping extensions. In a couple of hours a window popped up with the open slots

silverjetplane reacted to jrwh1177 in I-751 applications by the numbers
Here is a small table that shows how I-751 has slowed down to a crawl in 2017 under our new administration in the White House. All data was obtained from the USCIS via the link below.
https://www.uscis.gov/tools/reports-studies/immigration-forms-data/data-set-all-uscis-application-and-petition-form-types. Truly eye opening to see that the approval rates are way down and that the pending applications are increasing at such a large rate. Right now there are close to 200,000 of us just sitting here waiting. Hoping for a miracle in 2018 so that the pace of approval increases and the pending application numbers go down.

Applications by the numbers.. I think its information that all of us need to have in mind as we wait for our applications to be reviewing and approved.

Just checked how long it has been since USCIS received my case. If my ROC process was a pregnancy, i'd be due in around 10 days

Yes you can file your N 400 even with a pending I-751 once your window to file opens up. What normally happens is that it forces the I-751 to be adjudicated as this has to be adjudicated before the N 400 can be approved. If the I-751 isn't adjudicated by the time your N 400 interview comes up, you'll have a combined I-751 and N 400 interview. It's a seemingly easy process with nothing to lose sleep about. Now with that being said, your N 400 eligibility window opens up 90 days prior the the 3rd anniversary of being a permanent resident as shown on your conditional resident card by the "resident since" date. My 2 year resident card has a "resident since" date of 03/04/15 so my window opens 12/04/17. It's not by your marriage anniversary. By the time you're interviewed for naturalization, you would've met the other requirements by being married for 3 years and also being a permanent resident for 3 years as well.

Hi everyone,
I'm from the January 2017 filers group and I just got a letter in my mail today for the i-751 interview. Doesn't provide much information just gives a date and time for the interview and asks me to bring along my spouse, my conditional green card, the letter, ID, proof of bonafide marriage and 2 passport size photographs. Anyone else gotten the same letter??
-
silverjetplane reacted to Starkilla09 in I-751 December 2016 Filers
Yes at the current processing rate it will take 12 months plus to see approvals. My N 400 window opens December 4th. I'm already stockpiling documents to mail once it opens.

silverjetplane reacted to lucyrich in Income Tax filing newly married
See these IRS publications:
http://www.irs.gov/publications/p519/index.html
http://www.irs.gov/publications/p501/index.html
The main point to remember is that single status is not available to married people. If you were legally married as of December 31, then you cannot file as single. Filing as single not only is a violation of IRS rules, but it also may cause problems with immigration -- you'll probably have to show the tax returns at adjusment of status, removal of conditions, and/or a future citizenship application, and it would put you in an odd position of trying to convince the USCIS that your marriage is bona fide while showing them a document where you claim to the IRS that you are not married at all.
You can either file as "married filing separately" or "married filing jointly". There may be some chance you would qualify as "head of household", but the circumstances for that would be unusual (you'd have to have a qualifying dependent living with you, and your spouse could not have lived with you during the last 6 months of the year).
If you file a joint return, then the two of you will file the return jointly. You'll both sign it, and you'll each need your social security numbers. If your alien spouse isn't eligible for a SSN yet, you'll file a W-7 and request an ITIN. For a joint return, the alien spouse will have to declare all income earned worldwide for the tax year, though tax treaties will probably mean that most or all of the income earned outside the US will be free of US income tax.
If you file a joint return and your alien spouse has little or no US income, be prepared for a significant reduction in your tax bill compared to filing as a single taxpayer.
If you file a "married filing separate" return, chances are you will end up paying a higher tax than a joint return, and probably higher than you used to pay as a single individual. But it depends on individual circumstances.
A nonresident alien is ordinarily not allowed to file a joint return. However, the two of you may elect to have your nonresident alien spouse treated as a resident. If you make this election, you can file a joint return. For details, see this part of publication 519.
