meg_654 got a reaction from Michael2017 in Medical experience in VITA/Greenberg Clinics - Sofia, BULGARIA
My mother had her medical at Greenberg clinik on November 18th, 2014. Her interview was November 20th. She lives in the province, so she traveled to Sofia the day before. So did I: I flew in on November 17th to Sofia. We stayed overnight at hotel Ramada, near the rail station and train station. On the following morning Mom suggested we take a bus to Druzhba 2, even though I though a cab is a better option. We took the bus and got off about 45 mins later at Druzhba 2, the third stop I think it was. We had to walk around a brand new but uninhabited office building and saw the pharmacy first and then the clinic. Registration took about 5 mins. The front office staff was very helpful and knowledgable; took the immunization record, interview letter, mom's passport and photos. After registration mom met with the MD, who had already looked at the immunization record. They spoke for about few minutes to go over step by step what she needs to get done today and then walked together to the ground floor where the X-ray and blood lab were. Soft handoff to the x-ray technician. Mom had her x-ray taken which took about another 5 mins. Right next to the x-ray office is the blood lab. The tech there did not have any other patients, so mom walked in as soon as she got out of the x-ray office. Blood was taken for the syphilis test, if I am not mistaken it is called vasserman (not sure if i spelled it right). Mom was told results will be ready in about an hour and a half and to check back with registration. We left the clinic happy that all is ready and went to a nearby bakery to kill some time. After nice coffee, few cream puffs, and a conversation we headed back to the clinic. Results were in. Doctor reviewed everything and called mom in her office to take medical history. She determined that mom needs a flu vaccine and a pneumonia vaccine, since both are required for the States. Flu vac is required for any interviews after October 1st, when the official flu season starts in the States, and pneumonia vac for anyone over the age of 65. They had quadrivalent flu vaccine, which covers 2 A and 2 B strains of the flu - the type I already got in the States before my trip to Bulgaria. Mom got the vaccines from a nurse. We paid at the front office and had an option to pay with USD or BGN. I didn't ask if plastic is accepted there. We were on out merry way, via bus to clear off the hotel rooms and load the rental car for a trip back home. Very impressed with the clinic and how smoothly everything works there. Mom paid about 170BGN and was handed a sealed envelope to bring to the interview on the 20th, two days later.
We chose Greenberg, because results were ready the same day. Vita clinic told us that we need to wait three days for the blood test results, and that was not convenient for us, since we didn't want to have to take another follow up trip to the clinic.

    Hey guys, Hey dear Soloenta,
I finally have a chance to drop by and catch up a little with the tread. We are enjoying our second day post POE. Life is good and I have nothing to rant about but be happy for few CC for dear virtual friends on VJ and especially for Soloenta.
My dear Mom is finally home. I went with my husband and baby to Bulgaria few weeks ago, so I can be with her at the medical and the interview. The embassy guard did not allow me in and assured me that my presence is not needed. He was right. The interview was nothing special. The CO asked mom few questions related to why she stayed more than 12 months outside the US- some of you may remember, we are going for an IR-5 visa for a second time. She had to take few more photos and was able to do that through a photo boot inside the Embassy. She was then told DHL will deliver her passport at our home. DHL delivered a day sooner than what their estimated time said, but we had to pay the fee for the packet delivery. Few days later, my family all flew together to DFW through Frankfurt. POE in Dallas was anticlimactic, uneventful, boring, quick. I was allowed to stay with mom in the immigration room in Dallas. By the time I had a chance to park the stroller and say: Thats it?! her passport was handed back to her with the stamp we waited a year and a half for. Very uneventful. I pray for all of you reading this post to have interviews and POEs that are as smooth as ours. We are August 2013 filers and struggled so much through paperwork, checklist, backlogs etc., etc., that a relief was much needed.
Thank you VJ friends for being there for me and listening to my rants and understanding what I was going through. The best thing of this journey was seeing my moms smile when she exited the embassy and saw me waiting for her across the street
Best of luck to you all!

You are such a newbie, dear chrisaivey, but I do hope things at NVC move much quicker for you than for those who are just now getting out of this hellhole. Keep redialing, and block out the recording you will hear while on hold with NVC. Brrrrrrrr! That place gives me chills.

Congrats! Do you have to work extra few weeks until your last day at work, or you get to go home and be foot- loose 'n fancy-free tomorrow morning? I envy you a little, but in a good way. I only get to go on a vacation to Bulgaria around the interview date and then back to the good old job.
Best of luck on your interview and trip to the States!

Yes, I called NVC twice that day: because listening to their message for 45+ minutes in the morning was just not enough...I knew "my call was important to them" so I gave them another one and I knew they were scheduling interviews on October 3rd and was hoping to get the date and I was sitting in Dallas traffic on the way home bored out of my mind, so I called them again

Oh dear, don't be so discouraged. Pending administrative processing is related to the additional documents you have to submit after you already had the interview today. Spend a day to feel bad about your interview, but DO pick up yourself tomorrow and get things done. You are almost done with the process, this is just a minor and last obstacle to overcome.

You would do best by calling NVC. Another option to email NVCInquiry@state.gov, but it takes a while to receive a reply. I emailed that address on June 17th, and got a reply on July 18th. By the way, my case was received by NVC in the beginning of April, and I just now got a case complete. Best of luck to my beautiful Bulgarian countrymen!

Another good news for me today; MoBar was right about the double helping....I called NVC again this evening and today my interview was scheduled for November 20th. An ordeal that started in August 2013 is coming to an end for me. I spoke with Oscar and he was happy to tell me the good news.
