  1. Briefly.

I have completed my medical on 5th February. Some results needed to be verified and it took 2 months to get Knightsbridge to sign me off as fit to pass the medical (which they did on the 8 April) so the delay in waiting has been a little frustrating, 2 months in all)

So now do I have the 4-6 weeks wait for my interview date that most people have? I have checked my status and it says 'Ready' and the last touch point was the 9 April (The day after they received my medical pass from Knightsbridge Dr.s)

I have emailed the London Consulate without much success. Anyone know if your medical results have been delayed do you then enter into the list and wait your turn for a date? How long will this be? If not do I get slotted in fairly quickly?

What's the wait for an interview date these days?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    G

  2. Hey Lillico,

I had my medical on the 4th Feb but I'm still waiting for my interview date. I'm informed its usually given 6 weeks after your medical, and that they give you about a months notice so you can make travel arrangments to get to London.

You may find you won't even be advised by when you interview date is by the 28 March as they are taking 6 weeks to usually send out the notification. Ther are always exceptions to the rule especially if you have informed them that you need an earlier date. Maybe they might offer you a cancellation if they have any?

My advice prepare to wait at least 6 weeks from when they get your medical report from Knightsbridge and then a further 4 weeks before your actual interview date.

  3. Totally agreed!

That was what I did too. I didnt specify I was flying in the US to get married. Just did it and flew back to Spain.

I wish I could have filed through DCF!!!

I had to do it via USCIS at Chicago Lockbox and now Im stuck in Nebraska....

Sorry to hear that altito I didn't know Spain didn't have DCF.So far London DCF have been amazing.

Luckily for us civil partnerships in the U.S are not legally recognized so it was a simple first time marriage for both my husband and I.

Can't wait for this journey to be finally over.

Things are changing for the better in the U/S though now federal benefits including filing of taxes, marriage etc., are recognized for same sex couples. It's a great thing we have been waiting for over 10 years. In another year the movement will be a distant memory and it will be accepted as the norm which is fantastic!

  4. There is no issue shai13. We are a UK same sex couple who were civil partnered in the UK in 2007. We decided to get married in NY in Oct 2013. We then immediately flew back to the UK. You are allowed to get married in the U.S providing your return back to the UK. The wait for the UK marriage laws to catch up to the rest of the world take too long.

We then filed DCF with London and we are now awaiting our interview (medical just completed)

My advice marry in the US in a state where it is legal, leave enough time between applying for your marriage license and then the ceremony (at least 24 hours). Return here and file your I-130 DCF with London it's a lot quicker.

message me if you need any more info.

    Best of luck....

  5. Great thanks!

I went to the doctors last week, she provided me a print out with all my details at the top, name, dob & HNS number etc and a list of vaccinations and dates, she then stamped and signed it - is this acceptable? It looks so basic but i guess why does it need to be complex!

Guys, did all of you on this thread go through DCF?

I have my medical on Tues 4 Feb so hopefully I have enough. Like you I have a printed of GP Immunisations history stamped by the practice nurse but not signed. Should be AOK (Fingers crossed)

  6. Had the medical yesterday - went fine. I went to the Knightsbridge near Bond street tube. My appointment was at 1:10 but I showed up at 12:40. It's a big door on the corner, I rang the bell for Knightsbridge and they buzzed me in without saying anything. The door to the surgery is on the left, inside there's two windows on the right, the lady there took my docs (passport, police cert, immunisation docs, filled out and singed form) and gave me a form to fill out (pretty much the same as the one you bring with). I went into the waiting room (further on to the right), filled out the form, and took it back. They said they'd call me shortly. At around 1:10 I went into a room and had a quick chat about my vaccines - the lady had missed that there were two pages in my book about vaccines I'd had and was going to give me a jab. She asked if I'd ever had chicken pox (I said yes). She said to make sure I get the rest of my shots in case I need to get medical insurance in the US. I was in there maybe 2/3 minuntes. I went directly from there to the xray room (this was not the experience of other people who were in there, but I got lucky). Took off my jacket and tshirt, stood against the plate thing with my arms in a super awkward pose, took a deep breath, then he started chatting while he was processing it (loaded it up, corrected it on the screen so it was clearer, then burned it to a CD and stuck on some labels), then I went back to the waiting room. I was in there for maybe 4-5 minutes. At about 1:32 I was called in to the doctor. We had a chat about my medical history - I'd said I used to smoke and we talked about how much, which she wrote on a form. She asked if I'd ever had any resperitory problems, I said I used to get bronchitis a lot when I was smoking, she said that was likely asthma and put this all on the form. She asked if I'd ever taken any illegal drugs, I said no, she said "this does include marijuana" and I said no again. Then I sat on the bed thing and she checked my vision against a chart on the wall, then checked them with a light/microscope thing, following which she checked my ears. After that she told me to take off everything but my boxers and lie down. Getting hazy now but I remeber she checked my lymph nodes, had a listen to my chest and back, then put on rubber gloves and took a blood sample, pressed on my abdomen a bit, then asked me to pull down my boxers and had a bit of a root round. After that she told me to put everything back on and went back to doing some paperwork. From memory she asked me again about marijuana, and I said no again - she said everyone always forgets that marijuana is included in "illegal drugs". She told me if I ever get beta blockers to mention the possible asthma, but otherwise she was giving me a full pass, and if anything serious comes back from the bloods, I'd hear about it in the next few days. Was in there around 15 minutes and we chatted away the whole time - she was really nice and I was 100% at ease. I went back to the waiting room to wait to be called to pay, which I was about two minutes later. The lady at the window also gave me my "vaccination documentation worksheet" and said to keep a few copies of it as I might need it in America. Then I was all done! All told I was in there for an hour and 10 minutes. There were a few other people in there at the same time who went through things in a different order. Everyone was really nice and it was a very easy process - nothing to worry about.

    Great News mate.

  7. Thanks, got *something* today, so we'll see what they make of it! smile.png

There's nothing weird, I don't have anything to hide, I'm perfectly fit/healthy, so is annoying to jump through these hoops, but oh well! smile.png Just want to get it sorted smile.png

Wowza, 17 years! That seems so crazy that they'd be bothered.

    Hey Appleslices,

Hopefully your Dr's letter will now suffice. I suspect that the Knightsbridge Dr's won't take any responsibility for the medical if there is the slightest grey area they will demand another opinion to cover themselves. It suck esspecially the amount you pay for the medical and the fact the individual doing so is an M.D.

Best of luck, hope all goes well.

  8. The OP and his partner want to start the medical early in case St. Lukes sees something on his chest x-ray and makes him go through the three-month TB sputum culture. If the syphilis treatment delays the start of the medical by a couple of weeks, it's a couple of weeks they'll never get back if they have to wait for the culture.

Syphilis or the antibiotics to treat it won't make his X-ray look like TB unless he actually has TB will it? Therefore if he is successfully treated for the syphilis and doesn't have TB his chest x-ray should therefore be clear or am I missing something? It shouldn't affect his time span need between the medical and the interview.

  9. Your partner once he has tested positive for Syphilis will always test positive (even after he has been successfully treated with meds) the virus can always be detected in your body with a simple blood test in your unfortunately he will always test positive.

My advice would be to get the medical care he needs and then allow the syphilis counts in his blood work system to reduced. So when they test him yes he will test positive for Syphilis but he will then have a successful record of treatment and a subsequent blood test which shows he has responded to the meds and his syphilis is reduced and successfully treated - which means it is no longer communicable for immigration purposes.

Not sure what the time line is for successful treatment but his healthcare provider should be able to advise him.(may be a few months between the blood tests).

Also do not forget to be honest on the medical questionnaire when asked about STDs, actually tell them and when you have proof of successful treatment it shouldn't be an issue.

Sorry to hear your news, hope everything gets sorted soon.

  10. Sorry but do you need the flu jab? It does say only in season and only for a certain age?. My doctor said i would be "lucky" to get a flu jab now!

I got my records printed off and the nurse stamped them with the practice stamp and signed & dated them, is this ok?

Plus like you guys i am trying to work out what i need also (I am 30), I had

    1984 - First DTP + Polio

    1984 - Second DTP + Polio

    1984 - Third DTP + Polio

    1985 - Measles

    1994 - Measles/ Rubella

    1998 - Booster DT + Polio

    1999 - Single Meningitis C

    2007 - Infectious Dis: Prevent/ Control

    2008 - 1st Hep A & Typhoid

    2008 - DT (Double) = Polio

From what i think i only need the Mumps as i didn't have the MMR

Look further up this thread I think one of the posters rang Knightsbridge and asked (as did I) they advised between Nov March you do have to had the flu jab. If its difficult to get go to Boots its £13 still cheaper than Knightsbridge doc. Ensure you get a document.

  11. Will do.

Went to the docs yesterday expecting to be a bit vague and get some vaccines etc out of them, but when I sat down with the nurse she opened my file on the computer and the doctor had left a long note basically saying "this guy is going for an American Visa, wants vaccines/titers of many varieties, I've told him he can't have anything so don't give him anything". I came away with the first of two MMR vaccines (I got my originals in 1981, at which time the vaccine excluded a mumps vaccine and they have a free catchup service going on, so that was covered). Went to a travel doc this morning and got a flu jab for £10 and the first of three diptheria/tetanus/polio vaccines for £30 - that's everything, right? My understanding is once you're underway with the mmr/dtep vaccines, that's enough? Got all my docs with stamps too so I think I'm set.

    Well done mate.

MMR check all done BUT make sure you have the 2nd part (after your medical about a month from the first) better to get it here free and easier than in the US. You will need it for AOS or when you apply for naturalisation.

    Flu jab check all good.

DTP jab great they will waive other two as there is insufficient time between injections. Same as above get them all done before you go to US so you can rest assured all done!

A real pain to get this done but trust me better than panicking or being held up at the medical.

BTW - Your doc is a freak mate good job the nurse was more friendly.

Let me know how the medical at Knightsbridge goes be interested to know what to expect.

    (fingers crossed mate)

  12. Booked my medical this morning for Friday of next week (24th) and they said anyone over 60 months needs to show proof of the influenza jab. Close call!

Also noticed that form lists DTAP as TDAP, which gave me a head scratching ten minutes.

Headed to the nurse at my practice at 4:30, going to give them a story about travel and see if i can get a TDAP jab or test out of them. Probably best not to mention the visa I reckon, though I'm not convinved the doctor won't have documented our conversation in my file, which would scupper the whole thing. Fingers crossed.

Yeah people have said that the influenza jab was a must....

So you need all 3, no biggie see what your nurse will give you and then go to Boots for the flu jab (get documentation) then you are all set.

Don't forget to take to your medical: a photo, your medical questionnaire completed, vaccination proof/s, your original police check document (and a photocopy of it) and you cash/cards to pay them. Then you are all set.

Let me know how it goes mate I have my medical on the 4th Feb.

  13. Hi GF1804,

Looks like we have similar timelines in London! I am the petitioner for my husbands visa, am wondering about the same thing on the I-864 form itself. I think I am going to put my intended US address on the form, after reading loads of forums and trying to interpret the instructions. If I find out any other info I will try and share it here.

Thanks Snorbs me too its good to keep in touch and share as we go through this process...

On my partner's 1-864 I think we are going with our US address in NY as our mailing address, place of residence as our UK address (where we are currently living) smile.png and place of domicile as United States. Is that what you intend?

Keep in touch let me know how it goes.

  14. Hang on, according to this PDF, I don't need a flu jab - it says No for influenza for those between 60 months and 49 years. Sorry, my mistake - the initial link I had seemed to suggest everyone needs it.

Seems that way but I read another post that said during flue season you do need it? I'm 45 but still had it.

So I had mine done anyway. Your call I guess.

If they insist and I think you might be right you can get at Knightsbridge.

  15. Medical 1st, then DS-260 and finally applicant readiness submission (online) you will need your medical date to submit on this form.

You are DCF at London right?

So DS-2001 no longer in use its the DS-260 do this when you have booked your medical. (Takes a good hour to do)

Then the applicant readiness submission form (online) (takes 5 mins)

Then after your medical the Embassy will contact you in 4-6 weeks and give you your interview date.

    Simples....(hopefully)

  16. Absolutely, thanks for your help mate. I reckon you've saved me about £100 today! If all this is as straight forward as it seems I might call and book my medical when I get home from work. Yay for progress.

EDIT: Oops, one more question - do I need to fill out the DS2001 before I can book the medical?

Medical 1st, then DS-260 and finally applicant readiness submission (online) you will need your medical date to submit on this form.

  17. Great mate.

Don't forget if you have the flu jab at say Boots, get documentary proof for Knightsbridge.

Hopefully you'll get the MMR (again get proof) then just the Dtap on the day of your medical and you are sorted.

Makes your total cost at Knightsbridge that much less, as the medical cost is already steep.

    Finger crossed all goes OK.

Another thing when you do book your medical not sure where in the UK you are, but if you have to get a train to London get an appointment for say 1:00 pm ish that way the trains are off peak and if you book way in advance that much cheaper, For me from Birmingham to London is £35 return.

Also have you submitted you DS-260 online and applicant readiness online form? The DS-260 is self explanitory just need ALL your addresses and postcodes etc you lived at since you were 16 and 10 years worth of job/career history (You put 5 years of history on your I-130 so use that as a starter and add the rest to cover the 10 years. Also get you passport and details on a scrap of paper first your last 5 visits to the US and the length of your stays all the pre prep makes the filing easier. Don't forget to print off the confirmation sheet (has bar codes on) so you can prove you have completed at your interview.

    smile.png

  18. Just rang the practice I go to and they wouldn't give me a flu jab as I'm not at risk! Decided to chance my arm and they've booked me in tomorrow for an MMR jab - I'll ask at the time about the Dtap, just need a good excuse in case they ask me (if they ask about MMR, I found out mine was between 1980 and 1990, which at the time didn't include mumps). Worst case scenario I pay £7 at a pharmacy for a flu jab and £35 at knightsbridge for the Dtap one. Phew!

  19. Nothing booked yet, been trying to sort shots since MOnday, police cert came yesterday so I'm in a position to book today. Judging by your sig I should expect some time mid feb?

Interesting what you say about the flu jab - I might go that route - like you say it's cheaper than the titers.

For the chickenpox one, I just tell the doc at the medical that I've had chickenpox and that's it? Handy.

The medicals are easily booked and I actually could have gone in late Jan but I choose early Feb to give myself time to sort out the vaccinations etc.,They seem to be pretty frequent and available.

Get the influenza jab on the NHS

Then MMR and Dtap either from your doc (or if no go and they won't help) pay at Knightsbridge for it.

Yeah when they ask say you have had Chickenpox as a kid. (The vaccination for it isn't available here in the UK) so admit you have had it and they are good.

  20. See I asked him about it and he said "i can take the test but if I send it to *local hospital* they'll ask what it's for. If I say green card, they'll reject it and say it has to be done privately".

Hrumph. Not sure what the best step here is. I've only really been to my local practice once, got a completely different doctor to who I'm dealing with now, and when I rang a few days ago to try to book a titers test, it took 24 hours just to get a doctor to call me back to say they wouldn't do the test. Wish I could get someone to sit down and go over everything with me so I could get on with the process.

Brian take control of it. (Your GP is sticking to his rules I guess)

You need 3 proofs of immunisation, MMR, Diptheria/Tetnus and Influenza.

If you don't have any immunisation records and neither does your GP (you are not alone there) then book an appointment with the nurse and ask for the 3 x shots. If they have any issue on why you can't have them if you are already immune they will have to give you the titers test to prove immunity as they have no records on your past history to qualify this. They won't want to put your health at risk.

MMR is a 2 shot process anyway one now and one a month later (I think) so even if you have had the first shot in time for your medical they will waive the 2nd as insuffient time. Just ensure you get the 2nd jab done and documented so you can qualify for when you adjust your status. Talk less about a green card, say its for employment and travel. Stay vague.

No reason if you can't get your way they they won't give you an influenza jab. Then you need only 2 others and total of those at Knightsbridge is £75 (1 x £40 and 1 x £35).

Try the practice nurse route cheaper for them than you seeing a GP easier to get an appointment with too.

    When's your medical?

  21. Starting to wonder if it would be easier just to get the shots - the one that concerns me is the Tetanus Diphtheria shot as it appears I'd need to wait at least eight weeks before I could do the medical?

Brian I am going through the same thing mate. Its seems your GP isn't being very accommodating.

Luckily I have Tetanus/Diptheria shot already (documented) . So my GP arranged for me to have the titers blood test for MMR (on the NHS) *waiting for the result) if I am immune great. But he still going to give me a MMR shot as the US require you have had 3 in a lifetime. (They won't reject you if you haven't but you will need to satisfy the criteria when you AOS for CR-1 or IR-1). Also gave my influenza shot on the NHS.

I'd challenge your Dr and ask why some patients are getting on the NHS? Maybe just book an appointment with the practice nurse there thats what I did....she was amazing.

If you have to pay 3 x £50 privately for Titlers might be better to get what shots you can from your GP (NHS) and then have say one shot at Knightsbridge.

    Good Luck.

  22. HI guys, good luck on your journey. It's nice to "meet" another gay binational London-New York couple. Although I realized you've both been living in the UK. We are getting married on our 11th anniversary. I am the NY based USC and my fiance is moving here from London. Interview on 23 Jan!

    Best of luck Davesings!

We actually got married in Northport on LI. I'm sure your fiance will rock the interview. We are going through final stages of CR-1 visa. My medical is 4th Feb.

11 years - same as us and you both still live apart that's incredible and proves it's meant to be. If you can make trans-atlantic work you can make anything work.

Good luck at the interview - hope it goes well!!! Let me know how it goes?

    GF
