Yay!!!! Glad to have some sort of progress! Thank you Jesus! :D:dance:

    YAY! Congratulations! :dance::dance::dance:

  2. Thank you for your replies.

I arrived in the US in March of 2009 and maried in April 09. I recently got my 10 year green card in November of 2011. So I would have been in the US for 3 years at the end of March 2012.

Would I be right in saying that I will be a LPR for 3 years in November of 2015? That would be 3 years after i recieved my 10 year green card? Would it be benificial to become a US Citizen or not.

Im not going to lie, its a relief knowing that there are no more packages, paperwork to do. Its been one hell of a ride.

    Thanks again for your replies.

inneedofhelp, when you got married you filed to adjust your status from a K-1 Visa holder to a conditional permanent resident (CPR). This greencard lasts for 2 years and at that point you are required to remove the conditions from your greencard (ROC), at this point you get a ten year greencard and become an unconditional permanent resident (LPR). The 2 year conditional greencard you had counts as 2 years as a permanent resident. IF you were still married to your K-1 Petitioner you would be able to file for Citizenship (using the N-400) once you have had your 10 year greencard for 1 year (because at that point you have had a greencard for 3 years), this is a special privilege allowed to greencard holders who are married to US Citizens. Since you have divorced from your US Citizen spouse you are not eligible for this "shortcut".

IF you wish to be a US Citizen (but you are in no way required to, you can continue to renew your 10 year greencard for the rest of your life, so long as you are living in the US, if you would like) then you will need to wait until you are starting to hit the 5 year mark for permanent resident status (3 years into your 10 year greencard, because you already have 2 years with your conditional greencard). You can file 90 days before you hit 5 years as a greencard holder. Check your greencard and it will say on there the date you became a greencard holder (the date you got your 2 year greencard). Count forward 5 years.

I know all the abbreviations can be confusing, so I hope this helped clarify things for you.

As for whether it would be beneficial for you to become a US Citizen, only you can really assess that. Do some research, see what being a US Citizen allows you to do that being a LPR doesn't allow you to do. Also look into what your responsibilities will be to the US if you do choose to become a US Citizen. This is not really something that someone can tell you if you want or not. It's a personal choice.

  3. I'm using a stateside bank account for the check, so that can't be the problem.

Great idea checking with previous filers, thank you! Maybe somebody was in the same boat there

Another idea I had was to make a new thread in this forum and ask for advice from anyone who has or is currently Naturalizing from overseas. It might be a nice resource for people who are doing the same as you.

Hope that your check gets cashed soon! I would imagine if there was a problem with your fingerprints they would just send you for another biometrics appointment to try again and like notscenenough said, they would still go ahead and take your money regardless.

  4. Guys?

Ruffie, have you tried checking around in the other monthly filers threads and seeing what other peoples timelines are like who are filing overseas? Maybe it just takes longer at Nebraska for some reason. Try checking Dec 2011, Nov 2011, etc. That may give you a better idea of the time frame to expect.

  5. Got my NOA today with a Notice Date of 1/11/12 and a Priority Date of 1/9/12. It says, "Upon receipt of all required Record Checks, you will be scheduled to appear for an interview at your local USCIS field office." No mention of biometrics; does that come in a separate notice?

Looks like today is THE day for NOAs as I also received mine today too. Updated the list.

DAndy, I didn't get a biometrics appointment, either. But I haven't done biometrics recently as I did ROC biometrics for my GC about three years ago, I think. My letter said exactly the same as yours. *shrug* I'm guessing we'll get separate biometric letters at some point. But still, it's progress and I'll take it!

  7. Hmm. Well I have good news. But can't update my timeline yet.

Last night I got a text & email confirming receipt of my application. But they have not cashed my check yet. I guess it will happen at some point today or Monday. :) I guess that Dandy127's paperwork is in batch before me? Still nice for us to be running a similar timeline! I will check my account later and update if it gets cashed.

  8. hey, are you guys studying for the interview yet?

I've always been a bad student when it comes to long-term memorizing things. I'd sit down the night before a test and study all night, the next morning go to school and ace the test and a week later wouldn't remember any of the stuff, lol...

So honestly, I don't know if it even makes sense for me to start memorizing the questions now

And also - what state do I memorize the state specific questions for? The last state we lived in?

I was somewhat similar. I knew the basics, but would fill in the details by cramming the week before. I haven't really studied much. I did have a US Citizenship questions app on my phone a while ago before I had to reformat, so I will probably look for that again on the Android Market. It seems fairly straight forward (to me as a native English speaker). I just need to memorize a few numbers and a list of states for original colonies, etc. I will probably approach that closer to the interview date and I'm certainly not going to worry about it before I do biometrics.

I'm really not sure what state you would us. Do you still file taxes in a specific state or anything like that? If so I would assume that's the state you would use. But that is purely a guess. I could be totally wrong there. Maybe make a thread to ask the question to the rest of the N-400 forum? I'm sure there's someone in, or who has recently been in your position.

  9. Phew!!!! I was scared for a second that I might have been "slayed" by your wrath!!!! Glad we're cool!!!

Haha, old internet handle. The full name should have been "HuffyTheCampfireSlayer" as a riff on Buffy but VJ didn't allow for a name that long at the time.

Oh, and I just checked my tracking for my package. The AZ Lockbox got it this morning. Does anyone know how long it will be until we're $680 poorer?

  10. Psht. Oh I see how it is, Blessed. You just hate the Brits! That's fine. Whateves. :P

Ok Sweetheart.... added you back on!!!!! I better have no Germans nor anybody else bump you off the list! lol jk There!!! Happy now? :D

  11. What do you guy think: with 2012 being a year of presidential election, will uscis approve n400 faster or it will take them more than ever to do it?

I'm not sure. I don't think that it probably will affect the speed. I don't think it's the same as 2008. In 2008 it was a special case because it was a completely new candidate from both sides running and a lot of immigrants felt more motivated to vote for the candidate of their choosing. This year we know who the Democrats candidate is obviously, I just can't see there being as much of a rush for Citizenship for the purpose of voting for President this election year. I could be wrong, though!

  12. Hi Huffy!!! Welcome Aboard!!! :)

Yay! Let's get this party started lol! Glad y'all are here and guys... we are almost done!!!! Btw, here is a link to locate your local office:

https://egov.uscis.g....office_type=LO (just type in your zip code and the rest is self explanatory) HTH :)

Thanks Blessed. Glad we are on the final stretch at last! Thank you for the link, I checked my field office and it was San Bernardino. But for my greencard I was sent to Pomona. *shrug* I'll leave it as LA for now and change it when I make my next update!

  13. Hi folks! Just sent my package off today, eek! Not 100% sure what my field office is, pretty sure it's LA though. Will update later if needed!

  14. Ugh, this is fast turning into another nightmare of paperwork. I was born after January 1983 (just!) and from what I can tell they want my full birth certificate and my MUM's full birth certificate. Both she and I only have our one original copies of our birth certificates. So it looks like I will need to have her send off to get a copy of mine and her birth certificate. Plus I'll need to be sending off for more marriage certificates as we only have 2 left after having to submit it once or twice for AOS/my greencard.

All I want is to renew my passport and change it from my maiden name to my married name. UGH! So stressful. Looks like it is easier to prove you are s British citizen by naturalisation as they only require your naturalisation certificate!

Am I reading things wrong? Do I need to be sending these things into them? If I do will I get them back. Or will I have to call the undoubtedly expensive helpline? And then there comes the headache of whether or not I need a countersign! *pulls hair out*

  15. Hi Everyone,

Hope your visa journey's are all going well! My passport is starting to get to the point where it needs to be renewed (can't believe it's almost 2010 already!), and I have a few questions.

How many people need to sign the form and back of photo? I have heard that only one person is required, but also that 2 people are required. Can anyone help me out with this?

Also, do they need to be a teacher, doc, etc? I have 2 British friends who work regular jobs (one in marketing, one that does admin work). Is it okay to use my friends? Or do I need to get it sent back to the UK to have a friend (or two) sign it (I have one with a medical degree and one with a law degree)? Obviously it would be much more convenient to have a British friend over here (or perhaps 2) sign it.

One last question concerns the photo size. Do I need to see if I can find somewhere which will take the phone with the UK photo size requirement or are US passport photo's okay?

Thanks in advance for anyone who can help with these questions. Much appreciated!

  16. Thanks guys! I really appreciate your replies. Those were the two choices we were discussing. I think I will cross out the five and write in three as others have done. At least that way it makes sense and I won't feel like I'm lying. It really REALLY does need to be re-phrased for those of us that can apply at the three year mark.

    Thanks again for your advice!

  17. I know this is stupid and I'm probably overthinking this, but I have a question about Part 7 A.

    It reads as so:

Part 7. Time Outside the United States

(Including Trips to Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean Islands)

    A. How many total days did you spend outside of the United States during the past five years? [ ] days

The reason I am confused is because I am filing from being married to the same US Citizen for 3 years (came here with a K1 visa). Therefore I lived in my home country for 2 years (or thereabouts) before I came over here and married my husband and filed for adjustment of status. How many days do I include? The 2 years plus any trips taken? Or just the trips taken (I have been over to visit my family once since coming over) to other countries?

What have you guys put down? Thanks in advance for any help!
